....it BREAKS MY HEART to listen to people put down and criticize this country and the people who are leading it... Great post Shari! I found myself agreeing to many of your thoughts. Hearing our citizens bash the government in the immediate wake of this tragedy did tend to leave a bad taste. The timing just wasn’t appropriate to those seeking unity, healing, and sacrifice. And I very much support your call not to make volatile and negative pre-judgments about how our government will handle this crisis.

Regardless of my emotions, all of our discussions are important. Through our discussions, public opinion of formed. And public opinion will rule the fallout of this tragedy. Never before in my time have political moves been so closely scrutinized. Though some questionable things have slipped through in the past, I don't think we'll see much of that right now. So though I might not like to hear people assume that we will soon be bombing children or sending our forces to another Vietnam, it is because they’re bringing it up that it won’t happen. I just don’t believe that “we the people” will stand for it.

But these are just my thoughts. By all means, post away and give me your best, or your worst. As I sit here in my cozy house drinking Sprite, where my hardest decision today was “Cheez-it's or Doritos,” It's my freedom to read, or not to read. To agree, or disagree.
I hope my words don’t make anyone on the FishTanque think I’m bashing them. I’m not. If I were, I’d be quite plain about it. You’re all very intelligent and I respect your opinions. And if anyone out there doesn’t respect mine, Fuck em.
Or to quote Dave’s weblog as it sits open on my task bar, Eat me.

Mitch... you are right. Maybe we should look to our elders more. I'm wondering why your last post says Thursday 9/13. It's obviously from Sunday.
Sean and Sonya... yeah.. it's amazing how far a little rent goes here in Indy. Best of luck.
John... thanks for the kind words.
Ben... Time to end the binge. Sorry 'bout that hangover amigo. My thanks to you too for the kind email.

Twenty-two years ago this evening, a great man left this world. He posessed extraordinary gifts of intelligence, wisdom, and compassion. It's been rare that I've met someone that has given more time and sweat to his community, or worked harder for his family's happiness and security. He was blessed with far more than his share of skills, both tangilble and indefinable, and always showed nothing more than honesty and unwavering humility. I've often said, and truly believe, that if I ever turn out to be half the man he was, then I will indeed be great. He will always be my finest hero. So here's to you dad. Though it was far too short, I'm grateful for the time we had and the legacy you left behind.

As a result of the crisis that we're all currently facing, I have learned that I really know very little about the world, its people, or it's politics. My mind seems to change minute by minute and seems to be a chaotic mess mixed with fear, helplessness, sadness, and anger. We're not going to wake up tomorrow to the country we were living in a week ago, and it scares me. The airports in NY were closed down again today. Will this kind of thing stop any time soon?
Fortunately I've been inspired by the deeds of many brave people and it has given me a sense of pride that I've not felt before. Though I'm worried about where it will lead us, we obviously we can't give up and must fight for the good causes that make this country great. And I have no doubt that our compassion, tolerance, wisdom, patience, humanity, and sweat will see us through to a better world.

I'm sure I've been less reflective than some, but I've been thinking a great deal about the gifts of life and country that we've all enjoyed. To that end, I wanted to start over with a few things. My blog is obviously a very insignificant part of who I am, but in some strange way it seems to have a strong effect on the way I look at myself. Reading the words of my "blogger family" has given me a better insight to the world. And putting my words down for others to read has been a healthy way for me to sort out my own emotions.
Anyway... I've wiped the slate clean of everything I've written and have broken the chains of those words in the process. For the sake of those that read what I have to say, I hope to do better in this attempt. Sorry my html skills are so poor. I'll work on it. - j
