A Turning Point in My Life

I have to write a personal essay about a turning point in my life for friday, september 28th (that's a week from this friday). Normally essays would be no sweat, but I've never written a personal one before and I don't even know what to talk about.

Every turning point in my life either seems boring or too depressing. I just can't ask my English teacher to apply a numerical grade to an essay about something really devastating, because that would be unfair. I want to write an essay about something happy, something funny or ironic. If all else fails, I'm just going to write about going to boarding school! I'm sure it's been a popular topic over the years.

This Weekend My School Tried to Kill Me

Okay, that was an exaggeration. My school didn't try to kill me, at least not hard enough, because I made it :]. However, Mother Nature did try and succeed in reaching every inch of my skin even though I wore clothes 24/7 all weekend!!! Gross. I just got back from the school camping retreat, by the way.

300+ girls in the woods. Crazy. I guess I had a good time, about half of the time. The low points were getting lost in the dark on friday night (I had no flashlight; I am so undeserving of my brownie girl scout patches), losing about 95% of the hearing in my left ear at the drum circle on saturday and sleeping in a moldy tent that we rented from the army, yum.

Don't get me wrong, it was also fun! I lost my voice this morning because I'd been laughing so much on friday and saturday. I love the day students (they were required to come, too) and their wet wipes. Food was also very good because we are spoiled brats who brought our catering service into the mountains. :D

Someone (a classmate) commented today, "you're always so happy!" and you know what? I am. I love my school so much and I don't care if that makes me weird/a nerd because it's true. I am so incredibly lucky to be where I am right now.

Maybe I Didn't Make Myself Clear

War = innocent people killed. There's no denying it. So I don't want war. On the other hand, a retaliation is going to happen because, well, nothing else really CAN happen. Besides, Bush said he's going to "whip terrorism." No one can stop the US of A. But how do you fight the spirit of someone willing to die to kill you?

What a Day (did you notice the date is 9-11?)

Well, in my little world, things are going pretty well. I got my first Chemistry quiz back (it was on elements and their symbols, and I got an A) and went to the improv group's meeting. Auditions are thursday evening at 6:15 so I can let you know how it went on friday morning.

I'm a little relieved after talking to my parents because my dad said something that I guess I knew was true before but didn't really think about: the people who caused the horrible events of the day represent a very, very small group. This doesn't merit World War III, at least not yet. If we play our cards right, I do believe no one else has to be hurt. Then again, I'm probably too optimistic. Remember though: two wrongs don't make a right. :P

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIOBHAN!!!! I'm sorry this horrible time had to fall right smack on your birthday. :(

8:34 AM
www.foxnewyork.com -- I've been checking here for breaking news... this is horrible.

This kind of talk is why I'm worried that there may be a war. How can these people call themselves Americans when they want to ignore the value of human life and just kill anyone and everyone whom they think is "to blame"? It's disgusting, and I'm very sorry that I had to discover the sick folks at the Yahoo! message boards on the very day of this tragedy.

What Happened?

Please, let there not be a war.

When I got to the dining hall at 7:10 for the Free Tibet meeting this morning, a senior day student was telling us about the crisis/attack. We ended up not getting anything done this morning because we were just too upset... It's just shock, and fear, and for some of us, anger. I heard some girls saying "I'll go fight them myself! We have the biggest guns in the world so we should just shut them up once and for all." This makes me even more worried, because I don't believe a counter attack is the answer. War is the absolute worst thing I could imagine happening in the world around me right now. I'm scared.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was relatively boring, and so was sunday. I hope I will have something interesting to say tomorrow, especially since I'm planning to join the school's improv group! Good night.
