i am so mad i could spit. upon pressing the mountain dew button, the soda machine dispensed to me a non-carbonated, non-caffeinated, fruit based beverage (‘juice’?). that's just plain wrong. how the hell am i supposed to get any damn work done without my mountain dew?

so i have the new template slowly coming into focus in my mind. going to be completely different. sort of. well, the same basic links will be there but laid out differently. & the colors are going to be based on Squidward (fellow Spongebob Squarepants fans will know what i mean). Squidward has the greatest color scheme. but be forewarned: it will not look like the surreally you've come to recognize. it's actually probably going to be a lot more generic, at least at first, & quite a bit milder on the eyes. i'm just about through with this color scheme. maybe. i mean unless you think we shouldn't be, in which case let me know & i'll wallow even further into the thick muck of indecision.

well as we know i'm not very bright. just recently, i drove through wendy's, ordered, paid, & drove off without my food. got home, noticed the lack of wendy's food in my car, & had to go back. so with this in mind, consider that i just used a telnet shell to log into my webhost, did a bunch of command line unix (or maybe linux? i don't really know) stuff. i correctly chmod'd all the appropriate files & directories & got gm running on my server. all without having to ask anyone any stupid questions. i figured it out all by myself with nothing but the instructions, some of which were written in ancient geek & quite difficult to translate. ok so now technically we could post to our new gm thing, but now i have to do template stuff, & that could take awhile. or not, i'm feeling pretty cocky right about now. (what is that old saying? man with hands in pockets feel cocky all day?) sorry about that last. it just slipped out.

yeah, i know the feeling. not the shaving my legs example, but doing stuff over and over that i know damn well will leave me less than satisfied with myself. women for example. i should know better by now. i, of course, like you, am making fun of that particular human curiosity that manifests itself in repeated self torture. but it is a great topic and one that i can particularly relate to right now(or at any point on the timeline of my existence for that matter).. in fact, i have been contemplating that very subject.
Mic Stowe+

18:49
@kd

you know how sometimes you do something, & you just know it's going to come out badly, but you do it anyway? again? & again? no matter how many times experience tells you, sometimes quite urgently, “no! don't do it! you'll regret it!”, you just ignore that voice of reason. again. & again. ok, well this time it's going to be different. i can change! from today on, i swear on all that may or may not be holy that i will never, ever, no matter what, shave my legs in the shower again. see, showers for some reason without fail give me goosebumps. scraping razor blades (3 of ‘em!) over goosebumps will at the very least leave the skin itching, stinging & burning for most of the day, & at worst result in significant blood loss thruough hundreds of tiny lacerations. & all i have to do to avoid this (aside from doing that euro-hairy thing), is to shave my legs in the bath. that's all! just a bath! i can do this!

kd kelly+

23:16
@kd

oh, & mic, re: decisions -- i have emailed my hosting co. & asked for the upgrade. when this is done i will install greymatter & when i'm done messing with it (coupla days?), we will be like spacecheese & bs. we will still have our blogger archives, but we are moving on. remember all those times you couldn't blog because blogger was all scheezy? well this is all on my own webhosting & their uptime is absolutely outstanding. & people will interact with us. people will. have you surfed my sites links on the left recently? good stuff. go interact there. it enhances the whole experience of blogging so immeasurably. & i have excellent taste in links. go. surf. now.
kd kelly+

23:10
@kd

so it's friday night & beer/tequila & time to start sending emails &/or posting comments (on freinds with greymatter's sites) that i'll feel at least a little embarrassed about in the a.m. this is how it is, this is what i do, & i do enjoy the living hell out of it. however mic you can consider this another benefit of sobriety - you never do this. both benefit & drawback, actually. can't explain it adequately. did you ever play w/the internet when you were getting high? for me the internet & being high are not exactly synonymous, but there is a close correlation. & a reason for that closeness. i party with my computer. which i am doing as we speak, really.

sexual flamingoes. the answer to your question is: i don't know where that came from. it came from the depths of the well. and it then occurred to me that it might just spur some more of that weird search action we enjoyed from the hot robot monkey sexual perversion files. i think it has a nice ring to it too. might make a good song title. or a band title. or how about Pink Sexual Flaming Flamingoes as a band title? or alternatively: Sexual Pink and the Flaming Flamingoes. i'm diggin it.
Mic Stowe+

22:20
@Mic

luminous might be some kind of metaphor akin to, say, flaming for example. naw, i'm just kiddin'. you are pretty awesome. i visited spacecheese and the comments utlilty was exactly what the doctor ordered, barring the cyber crayon idea anyway. i too feel an affinity for blogger but leave all such decisions to yourself.

@kd

& now that you pointed out blogvoices is not working, we no longer have that. so i am so sort of ready to think about probably actually making the switch to gm. but i have such affection for blogger. damn.
kd kelly+

19:57
@kd

no that would be greymatter that does that. what we have, blogvoices, has the comments in popup windows, i have it set to email me if there are comments, & there just never are. greymatter does all manner of wondrous things but requires webhosting with Perl & CGI capabilities, & of course that is available, but at a price...not that much but i already spend so much. more than i should. oh heck i'll probably break down & do it anyway, but in a way i fear greymatter. it has so many cool features, all customizable, just beckoning me to come play with them. then there's the whole matter of translating this template...i have been able to pretty much keep my meddling little hands out of it for awhile, well not entirely but it's been pretty stable, remember back when every time you looked at it I'd totally changed it (again)? i don't want to go back there, man. but then in a way i do. think of ‘messing with the template’ as a drug - it is.

stress: sitting at computer, using calculator to add up checkbook (as if that's not stressful enough) big power surge. do i have power strip/surge protector, you ask? why of course, however i suspect when one has to yank off the ground plug with pliers because one's house is old & does not have three prong outlets, that it compromises the function of such a power strip. so there is this big buzzy noise & the computer shuts down. panic sets in quickly. i get up & walk around the house a little, take a few deep breaths, & return to the computer, push the power button & -- nothing. not a damn thing. if i didn't work for a company that builds computers i would have probably been screaming at that point, but what i did was call my boss & tell him i was coming in. & miraculously, the power supply bore the brunt of the surge, & the rest of the machine survived unscathed. everything's ok now, & as an added bonus, i feel ridiculously grateful to have a running computer, in spite of its advanced age (more than a year old), & the fact i've recently been heard whining my head off for a new machine, i am absolutely happy with the one i have.

ok well here's the thing. we have that comment thing but no one ever uses it. i've been toying with the idea of switching from blogger to greymatter, (like bad samaritan uses) but i'd have to upgrade my hosting package. my hosting expenditures are already rather excessive. maybe if my work-mates & i win the lotto this weekend? we have purchased many tickets.
cyber crayonlike i don't think i could do. great idea but that would be the sort of thing a real computer programmer would do. incedentally the blog alone had 194 hits yesterday & 50 so far today (thanks, dsr blog).

aaahhh, your fragile male ego massage hit just the right spot. i mentally deleted the sarcasm, recognizing it as a thin veil, covering the sincerity of your minor capitulation. but i won't push my luck any further. an idea: would it be interesting and/or feasible to have a virtual 'scratch board' on the homepage of Surreally? what i mean is, something akin to a guestbook that visitors can graffiti on in response to us or the site or whatever? maybe even a small area that could hold only one or two messages at a time. i think it would be more fun for visitors, resulting in longer stays, and more fun for us as well. could stimulate some interesting topic divergence too. what do ya think? i often wish a more immediate interaction than just signing a guestbook. i am sure others would copy it as well. of course this could very possibly be another instance where this is already in practice and i just don't know it. it might even possibly be cool (and a great test for you) if it was cyber crayonlike and resembled graffiti rather than just some kind of text box. i don't know on that one but am interested in what you think about it.

i have the attention span of a hummingbird & lousy short term memory (ADD?), & while that has its drawbacks, on days such as today i consider it a blessing. it freaks me out something fierce whenever i hear in the news about somebody killing their kids. & this latest one, where that bitch in texas drowned her five little kids...unthinkable. (side note: for the most part, i oppose capital punishment, but i would like ten minutes in the bathroom with her). & then there's her idiot husband. left those kids in her care knowing she was ‘spiraling down’ & her meds weren't helping, & now he's giving interviews about how he loves her & will support her through this? oooh, i just don't get that at all. things like that are best left unthought about, so i'm thankful to be forgetful today. of course writing about it is probably the last thing i ought to be doing, but i can't help it...
i love my kids so much. i love kids, period. i am utterly horrorstricken by this.

oh, & mic? the term ‘idiot savant’, while intellectually incorrect, still served its purpose in describing the aberration in my visual abilities -- & with the exception of insect detection, my eyes aren't very bright, so... in any case, it was not a clinical observation, you know, just something that occurred to me when i spotted a spider, all bleary-eyed (& minded) around 2am, i believe it was. but i'm guessing that some concessions are necessary, so i concede, because i need you. & yeah, ok, you're right, your superior intellect intimidates me & on & so on & so forth & is it all better yet? is this the part where i call you daddy?
kd kelly+

11:18
@kd

yes, definitely noticeably longer. i have installed humanclick (invisibly, though that was unintentional) on all the pages & when i'm online (at home) i now get a little bell sound whenever a visitor enters a page & i can see if they've visited before & when, how long they read, which pages, & if they leave (follow links) & come back. yes, it's true, if you're reading this, chances are i'm watching you...(spooky, eh?). & as our traffic increases, so does my obsession with it, & i am at a loss to explain this...
kd kelly+

09:46
@Mic

while it may be true that you were only trying to be descriptive, i would point out that idiot savant is a term that is no longer used, correctly anyway, by neither intelligentsia nor academicians. savant, without the rude "idiot", is the correct terminology. now that you stand corrected of your ignorance, much as i was by yourself a few posts back, i am now ready to move on in this relationship and let bygones be bygones. hang on while i switch gears...gllliiikkk...there, that's better. was it my imagination or did i notice that the last stats you sent for surreally indicated that the visits were getting noticeably longer?
Mic Stowe+

08:40
@kd

without correction, my vision is 20/300 (as it was explained to me, what other people can see at 300 feet, i see at 20). at my first optometrist visit, when i was 23 & had a computer (terminal) on my desk that was giving me violent headaches, the doctor examined my eyes & then asked me, “how have you been getting around”? i said, “driving”. he said, “how do you find things? you can't read the signs” i replied, “i know what stuff looks like”. i'd never thought of it that way, but it was true - since i couldn't see freeway exit signs except for a split second or so as i sped underneath them, i had just learned to navigate via landmarks. & my myopia continues to this day, (now supplemented with the beginnings of presbyopia but let's leave that out of this), with one notable exception - i can see bugs. i can spot a silverfish on a beige bathroom floor by a 15 watt nightlight. i can see the spindliest of spiders at twenty paces, no problem. my face is less than 2 feet from this big, vivid dell trinitron & the letters are significantly fuzzy, but if there was anything creepy crawling anywhere in my line of sight, i'd know. my eyes are like idiot savants.
