Articles I should read fully later on (all found on scripting.com):
Bush is walking into a trap - I will take a tiny risk and say that no other British newspaper – certainly no American newspaper – will today recall the fact that on 16 September 1982, Israel's Phalangist militia allies started their three-day orgy of rape and knifing and murder in the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila that cost 1,800 lives. It followed an Israeli invasion of Lebanon – designed to drive the PLO out of the country and given the green light by the then US Secretary of State, Alexander Haig – which cost the lives of 17,500 Lebanese and Palestinians, almost all of them civilians. That's probably three times the death toll in the World Trade Centre. Yet I do not remember any vigils or memorial services or candle-lighting in America or the West for the innocent dead of Lebanon; I don't recall any stirring speeches about democracy or liberty. In fact, my memory is that the United States spent most of the bloody months of July and August 1982 calling for "restraint".
Limbs of no body - If you read my article in full, It will take about an hour of your time. In this hour, 14 more people will have died in Afghanistan of war and hunger and 60 others will have become refugees in other countries. This article is intended to describe the reasons for this mortality and emigration. If this bitter subject is irrelevant to your sweet life, please don't read it.

I DMed my first D & D adventure today. It actually went pretty well. I was pretty nervous about it when we started. I wanted everybody to have a good time but I also wanted to try and stick to the rules but not be too anal about them. There's still a bunch of things I need to learn but since the other DM is playing in this campaign and my friends from work is super smart I have plenty of help.
In other news: I recently got Car Wars and Chez Dork. So far I'm not too impressed with Car Wars. The cards and everything are pretty cool looking but the gameplay is pretty dull. Haven't played Chez Dork but it looks fun. Seems like it has more interaction.

Reasons why I think PHP is stupid: 1) In functions you have to explicity declare the global variables you want access to. 2) In order to access a SELECT form element as an array you have to name that element with brackets (ex. members[]).

I've been debating purchasing some kind of digital multi-track all-in-one-studio piece of music equipment. The one thing that caught my eye was the Roland VS1880. I like it cause it's a piece of hardware and all self contained. Everything in one spiffy little box. But it's like $1800 and that's without the CD recorder.
I told myself I never wanted to rely on software or a computer to record my music because of all the factors involved: it's very portable, I have to rely on the performance of my machine, blah blah). But in all honesty I'm a moron. My machine is pretty ballsy and with my current musical/social situation I'm not going to be recording other bands any time soon outside of my own home.
I started playing with Sonar today (something I already own and hitherto only toyed with for MIDI-based stuff) and it's digital audio capabilities and it's really really sweet. So I'm thinking it would be better to turn this machine into a dedicated digital multi-track recording machine. Even if I spent some money on more hard drive space, maybe a new and some other things, it would still end up costing me way less than $1800.
So I think I'm going to look into that.

I finished Heavier Than Heaven. Kurt was definitely much more of a drug addict than I was ever lead to believe (either by MTV or other books about him).
It's hard to summarize my feelings about him now. I feel sorry for him. I wish he could still be around, if only for his daughter's sake.
The book was very good. If you're a fan of Kurt, or even if you're not, it's worth reading.

Mystic Wood - No, not a Beavis & Butthead joke, but a game that looks like a fantasy version of Abduction.
A bunch more: City of Chaos, Sorcerer's Cave, Dragonfire, Drakon, Die Magier von Pangea, Domain
Games that look similar to Settlers of Catan: Tikal, Entdecker
