A week ago last night I went to a PJ Harvey concert in Boston. It was amazing, and I didn't even consider myself a huge fan. There's just something about her though. She's got an amazing stage prescence, especially in smaller venues. Anywho, the concert was fun and I enjoyed myself.
Basically I've spent the week gradually trying to come to terms with what has happened, and to attempt to return to a sense of normal life. Yes, I still follow the news. Yes, I still feel for the horrible tragedy. But I know that if I personally stay in a place where I shake all day because it's all I can think about, it's going to have some severe repercussions on me as a person. So I'm trying to get some stuff back to normal, and I don't feel guilty about it. And I'm proud of that.
I had Thai food for the first time last night. It was really yummy. I also saw There's Something About Mary for the first time. I really don't know what all the original fuss was about. That could be because I had to see -every- preview and knew most of the funny stuff. I had such a fun night last night. So I was happy.

Good God. I've heard from all but one person that I know who lives in the area.
I've been shaking all day. I can't. . .it's so hard to come to terms with such great evil.

So. I've had a good couple of days. Yesterday I found out that I got my work study job at the theater. I'm one of the cotume stockeepers...and we have a HUGE costume room. So I think I'm going to have fun. Plus.. it's 7$/hour. I mean, hell yeah! Much better than $5.40 at a certain ice cream store.
I also found out that I'm going to be house manager for an undergrad theater company in the upcoming play. Which should be cool, because crew is fun.
I have a Trisk meeting tonight, then ballroom dance, then a concert that I want to go to on campus. It's a band called Orange Crush and they do covers of 80's music. So I'm really looking foward to it! ^_^

So I dropped Italian and moved into French I. Then the professor was like, "you need to be in French II." I was like...oh crap. It's been two years since I've had French. So it's been review like mad the past two days. I'm actually going to do more when I stop blogging...
Something is also weird with the school network. It's going much much much slower than normal. I wish I could find out why. . .and then tell someone to fix it!
PJ Harvey concert is this Friday night in Boston. I am VERY excited! :) Nothing like a concert to kick off the weekend, right?

Wow, it's been a heck of a week. They really hit you with orientation stuff around here. Stuff to do day after day. So here are osme of the highlights of the week, and orientation in general: I went to a "Teach In" on Tuesday with a philosophy professor. We discussed "What Is Happiness?" It was very interesting, and this professor is amazing! Too bad I LOATHE philosophy. That night, a woman, Dr. Maura Cullen, came and spoke about diversity in the college setting. I think she is the most amazing public speaker I have heard in my entire life. And I've heard tons of public speaking. She had us doing everything: laughing, crying, and finally realizing how right she was. On Wed, I went to the study abroad workshop. It was fun, and I kind of got up on info I'll need to go to cool places around junior year.
Thursday was my first day of classes. It was by far my favorite day. Italian is REALLY scary, and basically, I dropped it today to go back to French. I've only had two years of French, but every time she tried to teach us something in Italian, I only prosessed it in French. So, why fight it, you know? Language in American Life, an anthropology course, is so amazing. The prof is new, but I think she's going to be one of my favorites. The stuff we talk about is just fascinating. My freshman seminar, Understanding Evil and Human Destiny, is going to be really intresting, somewhat challenging, but something that I'm going to learn alot from. We're comparing ancient Greek and Hebrew civilizations, so I'm getting to read stuff I never had before. Ballroom Dancing is a blast! We've started learning the cha cha, and I'm just kind of. . .wow. Lastly, Shakespeare. We're reading some of my favorite plays EVER. And the ones that aren't, I've always wanted to read. So I am VERY excited.
Saturday, I went into Boston. I went with a group of six people and we went to Newbury Street, the theatre district, and Harvard Square. We had a great time just people watching, exploring, and figuring out the T. I love public transportation, by the way.
Sunday the only highlight was the Boston Harbor Cruise. We danced, we FROZE, we had fun. On a boat. A big one. And today, a holiday, I went into Boston again. This time I mostly hung around Harvard Square. Had good Italian food, found some vintage clothing shops. Lots of fun :)
I've gotten to talk to Cath and Harry on the phone, so that has made me very happy. I'm also getting all kinds of email, so I'm a generally happy person right now!

So I'm at college. It's been a really excellent experience so far. I've met lots of very friendly people, but no one who would EVER replace my Cath ^_^ I actually went dancing tonite, and hung out with people. ::gasp::
Orientation makes it feel almost like summer camp more than college. I'm sure that will all stop as soon as classes start. Of course, that also means no more free food at these functions. . . However, I don't think I have to worry about the Freshman 15. The hill I use to go places is almost 45 degrees. Someday I'll take a picture and show people how it is. I'll be getting LOTS of exercise. The roomie is very nice, and totally more social than I am. Which is actually kind of good. We get along, but don't do EVERYTHING together.
And I'm going to be picking up on some weird phrases soon, I just know it.

Sniff. Today a sad day. Cath moved to college...granted, it's still in the same town, but. . . I wanted to cry when I left her at her house this afternoon. And of course I didn't say anything. Cause I'm a big dork and can't talk sometimes.
And Bono's dad died after a long battle with cancer. And still the show went on. . .even when fans who really respect the band would have gladly accepted a grieving period. .
Rambling. That's all I'm doing.
