It's moving day. I bought myself the followingeden domains a while ago- and I've finally transfered them over. I'd love it if you'd come visit me in my new house :

Hope to see you soon!

Trivial Pursuit- Webloggers edition 1.0 is now available! WhooHoo! You can read all about it on John's page, then go take your chances!

On the home front- One field trip day down. 4 loads of laundry washed, dried and folded. One California report printed and turned in. One large serving of errands completed. 4 domains now resolving correctly. Two very sunburned shoulders lotioned.

Kicking ass and taking names, baby.

I need a pair of waders. The *(^# is hip deep right now. There's some work related weirdness eating up endless hours of my time, there's the tangle with Network Solutions, there's all of Holli's end of the year rituals (beach day, mission day, talent show rehearsals, and talent show). Each of holl's events require an entire day off work and they're all piled into the next week and a half. Add to that my sister's errands and the laundry that mysteriously piled up while I was busy twiddling with my not-completed design and I can just kiss the internet goodbye for the next week. When I figure driving time into all of those I'm coming out with negative hours. I'm thinking the only time I'll be out here will be when I'm supposed to be asleep. The problem is- that time is already spoken for. I have to fold that laundry and do the dishes sometime!

This is one long-winded apology in advance for my absolute snail's pace response to email and for the anticipated lack of posting. Just another week and a half of this hell- then I'll be free and clear for at least a couple days. I hope.

Wow. What a boring post. It's getting to me already.

Some odds and ends on a nearly wasted Tuesday. Network Solutions sucks. I don't suppose that caught anyone by surprise though. After all- if the great Zeldman (and I do sincerely think he is great) can not wrest his domain from their evil corporate control, how can any of us expect to have better success? Today I found the answer in this small bit of text on their site:

Priority Registrant Name Change Service
For $199 per domain name change, we will process your Registrant Transfer or Legal Name Change within two business days after receiving a complete and correct RNCA*.

That's right folks! Just pay an extra $199 and we'll actually acknowledge that you've contacted us. We *might* even do the job we're legally required to do in a timely manner. If any other business pulled this shite we'd be screaming extortion... oh wait... the city government where I live DOES pull this shite. Oh, well if the city gov't does this, then it MUST be legal.

I want to join the class action Loony has been talking about. Where do I sign up?

On a more positive note- Eric said he loved me on Sunday. GRIN. That made me just feel so... so... well, Loved! I know that he likes to stir it up, I know he ticks people off, but the guy is just a big teddy-bear (I bet he's not fond of that analogy) The thing is- he's been through some very ugly stuff in the last two years, but he's not asking anyone for any favors and he's not sitting around moaning oh-woe-is-me. He sticks up for himself- he sticks up for others. He's a brat- and that's just one of the things I love about him. He's exactly who I want in my corner when the going gets rough. So - yeah I love Eric, too. And if you've got a problem with that, get help.

That's all for now folks. See you later.

I've been waiting for John to step out from behind the camera again. He has such a beautiful perspective on things. He captures this equally well in words and photos, but the words don't get nearly the coverage on his blog. When he does step out in front I have to just sit back and absorb the beauty.

Bravo John. You've done it again.

So I get those weird search hits from time to time. People with odd things on their minds, strange ways of appropriating the english language to convey their wants and desires, you all know the ones I'm talking about.

Today Chris sent me ROFLMAO by quoting this slashdot posting to me. It appears that searches on the linux kernel turn up:

112 instances of 'shit'
4 mentions of 'piss'
44 derivatives of 'fuck'
0 instances of 'cunt'
1 mention of 'tits'
2 references to 'dick'
7 occurrences of 'ass'

Yeah baby! The follow up comments are the best part. I'll just leave you with one more quote:

44 derivatives of 'fuck'

Ultimately, aren't we all?

must... stop... laughing....

Holli and I sit in the window of the restaurant, on barstools. It's the window looking out on the central plaza, where the young and perfectly coifed parents take their toddlers during the break in shopping. It's the restaurant Chris took us to on the day he (officially) proposed to us. It's been five years.

On the other side of the glass a couple chase their toddler around the fountain. The little girl squeals at the spray of water. It occurs to me that I am no longer middle class. I've been passed over by the population of young parents. They drive cars I can not afford. They wear shoes that cost 4 times the value of my and Holli's clothes combined. They own houses and take expensive vacations.

The couple chases the child back now, away from the sanitized fountain. Pigeons scatter from their path. The mother looks up and catches my eye and we smile amicably through the glass. I recognize her from high school; she was several years behind me. She sweeps her child up in a big embrace that ends with the little girl perched on her hip. Beside me Holli is engrossed in her coloring. When she sits up straight our eyes are almost level. She reaches out and pats my hand with her best compassionate look.

Sometimes I wish it had not been so much of a struggle. I wish for the ease that comes from wealthy parents or a college education. I wish that Holli had been born into the perfect middle class, two parent family. Or that I had learned some of those lessons before I gave birth. I wish for blithe ignorance from gap sweatshops and poisoned rivers. I wish for nightly television and retirement plans and health benefits. I wish Holli and I were more than 20 years apart in age. I wish for average.

And then I watch her concentration while she edges the sketch of a flower in shadow, or remember the serenity in her face when she sings, or the way she smiles when I pick her up from school, and I don't wish for anything.

Outside the window the family packs up the diaper bag and the stroller. They carry the child and the dozen bags filled with consumable goods. They seem happy. I am happy for them. Holli has finished her flower drawing. The detail she has put into this one little sketch on this throwaway paper astounds me. I look from the paper to her face, her gorgeous smile, her boyish haircut, her unusual clothing, and I am relieved at the lack of average. We go out into the twilight, skipping.

And everything is just fine.

Thursday was a really strange day. Thursday I spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone with a woman who can reduce me to a sobbing mess with just a few words on my glowing screen. We didn't cry though, we laughed.

We laughed about our bad habits and our former errors of judgement and about how we've left so much of that behind us.

It wasn't all laughter. There were serious moments and some things we spoke of were only addressed in lowered voices. We managed to fill in the gaps between the stories we've told and the email we've exchanged and the information that has trickled back and forth via mutual friends.

She's even more amazing than I thought. Last night when I signed into AIM we spoke briefly for the first time since Thursday, and it felt like I'd known her forever. Not known of her, but really known her.

Thanks Sheila.

As much as I like that plain white basic thing I had going yesterday- I just don't have the mental stamina to go through and change all of my graymatter options right now. It's noon. I'm still in my bathrobe. Need I say more?

Last I dreamt strange shadowy dreams. In my sleep all that I have been pushing aside, denying, came forward to claim the attention it deserves. In dreams the realities and constraints of everyday life hold no power. I am drawn along in a strange pattern of hope and chance. In dreams I visit with people long since gone. They brush back my hair and whisper their secrets to me. They walk hand in hand with my living sister. They introduce themselves to my friends. The sun shines unnaturally bright.

When I wake I am lost.

The dreams fade and drift from me like smoke. They leave invisible, but indelible marks on my heart. In dreams I learn to hope for what will never be, can never be. And I feel them wrap around me, strangling me with their beauty. I find myself crying over nothing, the product of my sleeping self. How can I be so cruel and heartless?

If you haven't checked out AGELESS yet- you should! Every time I go over there I end up with a new blog or two to read. Joe has really put his heart into this project- and it shows. I could describe it in detail (because it is VERY detailed- screen shots, searchable, date indexed) but there is no way I can do it justice. Go see for yourself :
