Remnants

Everybody has had their heart broken a time or two or many times. It is a universal thing to love. And to lose someone you love either to breakup, divorce or death.

I have had a broken heart many, many times but I still remember the one that truly broke my young teenaged heart.

His name was Jeff Weimer and I met him at my Grandparent's bar. He was playing pool and beating everyone's pants off. He was good at pool but so was I. So I challenged him to a game. He was shorter than what I normally thought was sexy though at the age of 16 I'm not sure if that is a credible thing. He had short blonde hair and wore glasses. He looked like an mischievous elf. His gestures were quick but sure. I was absolutely smitten after 15 minutes.

I still remember how my heart beat and how it fluttered in my belly just being around him.

My Grandparent's were right there all the time so our conversation was limited. I think I even introduced him to them and he was so very polite that I know my Granpop was impressed.

He was riding a motorcycle. I walked him outside and I don't remember if we kissed or not but we made plans to meet again. And meet again we did. We spent a lot of time together. We went to the beach and swam and we walked in the woods and we just lay around on the beach talking. He was the first boy that I stayed up all night, until dawn arrived on the mountain, talking to him on the phone. I was in love and it was returned. That morning, after we had stayed up all night talking he arrived to pick me up shortly after that in his car and we drove to the lake where we swam and lay on the apron of the lake on a blanket and dozed in the hot sun. It was summertime afterall. He is the only guy I have ever gone skinnydipping with.

I couldn't believe that this guy, who had been going out with a pageant winning girl, was with me.

This is when I learned what full disclosure can do to a relationship. I know that his Mom wanted him to get back with that girl. I still remember her name: Valerie. He was mine but for too short a time.

See, I was pregnant with Mikey at that time and I knew I was going to leave for New Jersey when school started down there. I told him about 2 weeks before I had to leave. I remember that we were sitting out in front of the ice cream store with our legs sprawled out in front of us, sitting side by side. Or maybe we were sitting in his car. I know it was the hardest thing I had ever had to tell anyone before.

He didn't ever act any different after that. And when I left, we wrote to each other. Until I received one of those Dear Jane letters when I was about 6 months pregnant.

He had gotten back together with Valerie.

I need to remember to write about the Fern City, under the wagon and all our stuff from the campground.

I remember riding the bus for a very long time during my school years.
Since we lived so far out from any towns, my ride to school both coming and going lasted on average an hour and a half. I hated it and either read a book or slept. I used to sleep quite a bit in the mornings. I was always tired because I had a hard time getting to sleep at night. I didn't do much homework on it since the roads were terribly bumpy and full of potholes but I used to read, read, read. I would get carsick reading a book in a car or anything else but a bus I didn't have a problem with. I don't remember any of my bus drivers.

People Shelby Schmader: my first REAL boyfriend. The guy that introduced me to drugs and sex. Last I heard he was married to one of the Songer girls and living in Pittsburgh. I hope they are still together and happy. I hope his sister and his brother and his Mom are doing well also.
Nicole Moore: my first ever, BESTEST friend. Last I heard, I actually spoke to her Mom Jessie, on the phone about a month ago. Nicky had just had a baby. She was such a good friend that I still think about all the things we used to get into and there were many of those. She was always very smart. Her brother Joe, was my childhood boyfriend.
I had called my Aunt Jackie and she said here is someone that you need to say hello to, and it was Jessie. Her and my Mom used to be good friends. Our families lived in the same small neighborhood, Kenmore Acres, and when my parents had that campground, they had a permanent spot for their RV. I remember that Jessie couldn't sit out in the sun without the tops of her feet getting badly sunburned.
Speaking of the campground, a deaf girl and her family camped their for a weekend or a series of weekends and I rmeember becoming friends with her. This was the frist time I'd ever been around someone that couldn't hear. I remember spending the night in their camper one night and her Mom let us know it was time for bed and I was like, can we talk if we want after the lights are off? Well of course not. She couldnt' see my hands or read my lips in the dark.
Tim Keller and his brothers used to stand on the edge of their property and try and throw rocks into my friend, Chad Abram's pool. Tim Keller was a big bully and a jerk. Me and Chad used to pretend we were tv personalities and record our converstations including voice fx. Lord I cringe because I can still hear myself in my mind introducing myself as Kathy Lee Crosby (!).
What about that guy at the Quaker State gas station who nicknamed me 'Smiley' when we lived in Gifford, Pa. And the guy with all the rabbits that lived next door to us?
What about my friend Kerry Wagner and her mom? My Mom used to tell me that Kerry's ..grandfather I think or dad was one of the only people who could get me to stop crying when I was in one of my colic crying times. Kenny I think his name was.
And Jennifer Palazetti? She was the kid we all wanted to be growing up. She had all the cool Barbie toys and thge Barbie Dollhouse AND her Dad was the Police Chief or something like that. They lived in a awhite stucco type house with black shutters. I rmember her goldfish dying.
The people from Sherlock's/Park Place: Beth Ruby, Kim George and Mary.
I wonder if Doug ever married that woman he kept a picture of in his wallet even while we lived together. And what about his Mom? I'm sure Elmer has passed on by now. His health was terrible back then and it is now over 10 years ago.
And to all the witches that terrorized me: Colleen Dunn, Janine, Tooty, Sandy (ha kicked Your butt though in the end) and I'm sure there are more but you people stick out. Trina Patterson, who I didn't know too well but we were friends. Tammy Blaisdell. Both of us were too much alike to ever become good friends.

I remember those birds that swung back and forth dipping their beaks into any liquid and that is what supposedly kept them going. With my Grandparents having a little Touristy Store called Heasley's Trading Post, I used to get a lot of neat little toys like that bird.

If I get this right, I may pass out.
