So, I`ve had a few days now to read news about what`s happening in the USA. It still seems bizzare and surreal. And I can`t believe there are Americans who are attacking Arabs. That`s sick, sad and wrong. I still want us to find out and punish whoever did this but I want to be really damn sure that we find the RIGHT person. Twenty years from now, I don`t want doubt sitting in our history books the way we have doubts about the Rosenburgs now. No one should become a scapegoat.

As for war ... well, I`d much rather not have to go to war. I think the incident justifies it to a certain extent. Not to the extent of dropping nuclear s or attacking any random country for the hell of it just because of a few unproven suspicions ... However, if it does turn out to be bin Laden and Afghanistan refuses to give him up, I think we would be justified in making a military raid into the country to take him into custody (I don`t trust their courts - of course, since Americans aren`t going to be thinking clearly themselves, I think it should be an International court). I don`t seriously think that this will lead to WWIII though. At least I hope not.

As for the comparisons to Pearl Harbor ... that`s just silly. Pearl Harbor was a military target, not a civilian target. And we knew damn well who the attackers were. I doubt the perpetrators of the WTC ing have any serious intention of waging a full scale war (a ist one maybe, but a full-scale war is totally different) the way Japan did. So, I just wish people would shut up about Pearl Harbor.

In other happier news I guess I`m going to see Kya-chan tommorow. She`s going to show me where Mandarake and Book Off are. Fear for my newly-paid bank book.

I think I`m supposed to blog something about the latest tragedy in America. I don`t know what to say. All I can say is that the whole thing makes me terribly sad and angry at the same time. I hope the government finds out who is responsible and I hope that they pay. I wouldn`t mind if the suffered a slow painful either. The entire day has seemed very surreal to me. I found out because a few blogs commented on a "tragedy" that I knew nothing about. I went to a news website. I saw a picture of what seemed to be a movie scene. I refused to believe it was real. I went to more websites and realized it HAD to be real. Then I went home and watched clips on the Japanese news. It still seemed like a movie.

I wanted to stay home from work but I had to go pretend to be normal ... All people in my classes wanted to do today was talk about it but I had to avoid the subject. Somehow I don`t thing expressing a huge desire to cause people pain and suffering, not to mention nuking a country if it turns out to be responsible, would have gone over well. And this is big news in Japan. Too many Japanese companies had offices in the World Trade Center for it not to be.

Why do countries the US?

Oh, just a note to say I am going to be spending a fortune at this cafe. I started looking at some manga called RAVE tonight .... it looks quite interesting. I just wish I could read it.

So, it`s Tuesday. What have I been up to? Well, work mainly. But Saturday night after blogging my roomate and I ended up going to the apartment of this guy we met while waiting for the computers and watching the South Park movie (it was okay...but I got really tired of all the swearing even though I knew that was the point of the movie). He seems like a really nice guy. He`s here teaching Japanese to newbies to Japan for some company apparently ... and he plays in the symphony on the side. At least that`s what he said ... Anyway, he GAVE me an extra futon. He said he only used it when he had company and that wasn`t often since his apartment was so small (it was like, the size of a dorm room). He used a fold out couch futon for his bed. So, I ended up walking back to my apartment at 3 am carrying a futon mattress. My bed is slightly more comfortable now but I still want a real one. We need to call him and see what`s up. He was a pretty cool guy.

Sunday I did laundry. Monday was the typhoon that wasn`t. *rolls eyes* This is the second time since I`ve been here that there was supposed to be some giant typhoon that ended up going elsewhere. They take them really seriously here. Tons of stuff closed...even the mega department store. Of course we were open .... Legend apparently has it that the day after the Kobe earthquake students turned up at an office and wondered if they were having lessons. The staff replied "We`d love to, but as you can see, our building has been destroyed by the earthquake."

Now is my chance to tell weird work stories:

Said by one of my students, "Yesterday, I walked the street." -- I kindly explained that she was telling me she was a prostitute.

Told by another teacher: "What did you do this weekend" - teacher. "My girlfriend." - student (we still aren`t sure if he knew what he was saying)

And the weirdest story of all .... In one of my classes this guy (who also owns a FD - lucky bastard) asks me if I know Japanese. I say I know a few words. Him: "What words?"
Me: "Baka."
Him: "Ahh....but that means fuck off in polite conversation. Between friends it`s okay."
Me: "....."
Him: "I had an American friend once. She taught me English swear words."

He then proceeds to go through EVERY SINGLE way you can use the word fuck.

Me: "..... Um, you should really try not to use words like that ... especially in lessons. And moving on ..."

So, that`s some of the odd lesson stuff that`s happened. My roomate keeps being accosted by weird Japanese men though. She said she gets off at a small train station and last night no one was there but this guy on the opposite side and he started mastrubating while staring at her ... *scratches head* Nothing that weird has happened to me. I do think that why stuff happens around where we live is because there happen to be several love hotels in the area. I need to take pictures ... especially of the one with pink neon lights. :)

I want to do something again this weekend but I don`t know what ... *sigh*

Hum, after waiting forever for a computer at this silly cafe ....

Today my roomate and I went to Nagoya Aquarium, which is the first sightseeing thing I`ve done. It was a fairly cool aquarium and they did have a few sharks, not many though. Um, we had lots of fun, although it was very frustrating because almost all of the text was in Japanese without English translations and I like to read the text when I`m at a place like that. At the aquarium shop I bought a weird penguin shaped pen for my sister-in-law who loves penguins and then one that said Nagoya Port Aquarium on it. We also took some cheezy photos at a photo booth. It placed us in front of a penguin display and a fish display. After the aquarium we went to the maritime museum in the port building and then the fuji expedition (a ship about a trip to the antartic). Neither one of those were terribly exciting but it wasn`t much extra money to get a ticket to all three so we did. Then we went to some building called Jetty. There we discovered .... a Red Lobster. Really, a Red Lobster. It was different food than the American one but it was still similar...So we ate supper there. It was mildly expensive, but not too bad.

In that building there was a store that sold tons of Hello Kitty, Totoro and Gundam stuff. I was terribly tempted by the Mononoke statues that were there but as I didn`t have money, I didn`t buy anything. There was also a store there that had a bunch of manga stuff including the Basara special box! I am so going back there to buy it when I have money. I want the Initial D box when it comes out too. Of course, that store had tons of hentai manga (I`m thinking some of them may have been doujinshi but am not sure due to my lack of Japanese). I`m thinking of buying one of the silly sex things I saw there and sending it ot people I think would appreciate it .....

So, that was my day. I think tommorow is laundry/lazy day.
