Day two.
I've been glued to the TV for most of the day. And while the news people never have anything new to say, I just can't make myself look away. It still seems so surreal, but today is better than yesterday. When I woke up, I didn't remember what had happened til I turned the TV on a few minutes later.
I'd been hoping it had all been a bad dream.
People have been comparing this to Pearl Harbor. But I think this is a lot different than Pearl Harbor. With that attack, we knew who was responsible. It was also an attack against a military target. The Japanese weren't targeting innocent civilians. I know a lot of people died during Pearl Harbor, and that it was a terribly tragedy, but yesterday seems ten times more worse than the attack during WWII.
They've pulled 10 people out of the rubble. 10. Out of thousands. My god...
I suppose now, people will ask where were you on 9/11/01? I'll never forget when I heard: I was pushing a kid around on a tricycle at the preschool. I'll also never forget when I understood what exactly had happened: all the children were asleep. I had just seen the news footage. I walked out into the main room to check on the kids. There was a beautiful classical piano rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star playing on the stereo. The children looked so innocent, sleeping there on the mats. I sat down on the floor in the middle of them and hugged myself, trying not to cry.
It's a day I'll never forget.
It's a day no one will ever forget.
