Become a member of Gyalwa Gyatso Buddhist Center!

Starting in September, Gyalwa Gyatso is pleased to announce a regular education program. Classes will be taught by our resident instructor Venerable Losang Drimay and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga.

There are two tracks: Open Classes, and Intermediate Classes.

Open Classes

Over the course of each month we will cover some specific meditations recommended to us by our spiritual guide, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, such as:

• Stabilizing meditation using the breath Awareness of thoughts
• Continuity of consciousness through time, including past lives
• Four Immeasurable Thoughts: Equanimity, Love, Compassion, Joyfulness

The Open Class welcomes drop-in visitors, including complete beginners as well as people who already have some background in Buddhist ideas.

Fee: FREE (suggested donation $20/class)

Intermediate Classes: Lam Rim Teachings

This Intermediate Class will focus on one main section of the Stages of the Path (Lam-Rim) per month so that over the course of a year we will complete an entire overview. Each evening will include guided meditation, an explanation of the topic, and discussion.

Meditations for this class will alternate between:

• A Daily Meditation Practice by Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche
• Requesting and Receiving Blessings from the Twenty-one Taras

Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche is especially recommending Tara practice for the people of Silicon Valley, explaining that the various aspects of Tara each help us with specific needs.

The Intermediate Class is for people who have decided to follow the Buddhist path. This class will require daily meditation at home and weekly writing exercises.

The theme for September is "The Perfection of Wisdom", to follow up on the teachings given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Mountain View earlier this year. October will focus on the "Perfection of Meditation". November's topic will be the "Conduct of a Bodhisattva" and we will continue in this way month by month.

We kindly ask for help and assistance to do the following tasks, or donate the following items, in the scope of benefiting the society, the center, and those interested in the teachings, as well as anyone else.

• A more permanent location for hosting various teachings. Examples of such solutions would include: office room with chairs and whiteboard, store space unused in the evenings, house or apartment that could be donated on a monthly basis for the non-profit organization (including house sitting), clean storage space that could be converted to a reasonable teaching environment, community rooms. • More people willing to be responsible for setting up introduction teachings in Silicon Valley (project leads). This is really important, the more people help out, the more teachings we could arrange.
• 90 and 120 Minute tapes, for giving Dharma tapes to prisoners, as well as others who request those.
