another war no one can win
War on terrorism. War on terrorism. Sure, nice figure of speech, but they've got to be kidding if they think they're going to stop terrorism with acts of violence. It's going to be about as effective as the war on drugs. They'll stop some terror dealers, but new ones will always crop up. War is not the answer here. And killing Osama bin Laden will only make him a martyr, causing current innocents to enter into the war and bringing them to a new fervor. Because, for them, this isn't just a battle against another country. From their point of view, other countries, especially the U.S. are evil. This is a jihad, a holy war, and they're far more willing to die for the glory of their god than most people are for their country.
And, from a certain point of view, I can understand the Taliban's beliefs. I don't agree with their methods, but I hear their argument. The U.S. does poke its nose where it doesn't belong and stands on its pedestal as a superior country who has the right to interfere with other countries. But the U.S. is not the U.N. It doesn't surprise me at all that there are consequences to the actions we've done. The U.S. is not an innocent party here. We've killed innocents in our campaigns of "justice" and "democracy." What makes our country so much better than others that we feel we can dictate to the world how it should act?
War is not the answer. If we strike with a fist (again) we will get hit again in retaliation. It will only lead us into a cycle of violence. A better solution is to work through political on monetary means. Stop funding countries that harbor terrorists. Work against their economy. Military wars are costly and in the end, they only kill people.
Am I angry about the events of a week ago? I'm mad as hell and on an emotional level I do want someone to pay in blood. But on an intellectual level, I realize that blood is not the best payment system. I'm just surprised that congress seems to be going with their emotions and the emotions of a lot of the populous.

I'm back, yet I'm not. I'm compelled to write. I'm compelled to write anything, but time simply doesn't allow for it. So, though the weblog is not publicly back yet, it can't be too long, can it? Or will my desire to stay away from the computer remain, even when the snow is falling and I'm trapped at home? Will I have found someone to be with and ignore electronic life with by winter? Maybe. Maybe not.
Am I back yet? No. Will I be? Time will tell.
...It always does.

So, strangely enough, my site still seems to be up, even though I cancelled my hosting contract many days ago. I imagine that it will vanish any day now. But it'll be back...
It won't however, be the same site; much as I'm not the same person I was a year, a month, even a week ago. Changes occur and life grows and mutates with every passing second. We don't even see ourselves change sometimes until we look back on our lives and there we are, completely different people than who we thought we were.
This is it for the weblog, though. Last post. All she wrote. No more. So long. Arrivederci.

This site will probably be going down sometime this week as my contract for hosting is ending a month earlier than I expected and I had no plans to renew. Unfortuantely, I also am unprepared to move to a new host right now. So, egrigor.com will be little more than an error for about a month. Please direct any e-mails to me at witkiller@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Life must be a real pain for the AOL guy. You know who I mean. Even if you've never used AOL, everyone with any Internet savvy has a passing familiarity with the "You've got mail!" and "Goodbye!" sound files. And that's where being this guy would have to be a huge annoyance. Can you just imagine the scene where he's leaving a crowded bar after a night of extreme revelry?
drunk: Dude say it! Say it, man! Say it!
AOL guy: Oh, c'mon. Do I have to?
the patrons of the bar (chanting): Say it! Say it!
AOL guy (in patent AOL voice): Goodbye!
And the crowd would go wild!
I imagine the AOL guy has a wife and kids that always harass him to say "You've got mail!" whenever they have a postal message delivered.
It must be a pain to be the AOL guy. That's 15 minutes of fame I'd never want.
