So . . . about TV last night. I hope you watched The Late Show with David Letterman. I predicted it'd be a great hour of TV. I didn't want to hype it too much here out of fear that maybe then I'd jinx it (like I have that much power!), but I should've known I could trust Dave and the people at The Late Show to do a truly fine hour of TV. Amazing stuff. I've got to give Craig Kilborn and the folks at The Late Late Show credit, too, for doing a good job with their show. And Bill Maher and company at Politically Incorrect did pretty well, too. But last night it was really all about Dave. The Big Man. The best late night talk show host we've got. And a class act.
Anyway. On with today's picks . . .
You know, after all the real recent violence, you probably don't want to relive the fake tv violence of the stabbings of Lucy and Carter on ER (TNT, 8am and 9am), but if you want to see (or avoid!) both of those episodes, I thought I'd mention them.
Levar Burton and Ernest Borgnine guest star on an old Murder, She Wrote (A&E, 9am and 3pm).
Live with Regis and Kelly (syndicated, check your local listings) returns with a new episode. The scheduled guests listed on the official webpage are Tim Allen, Gil Bellows, and Claudia Cohen. I don't know if that guest roster has changed or not in light of recent events.
"Sally" is another of my favorite episodes of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 9:30am). Really, there are actually some episodes which aren't my favorites! Honest!
Earth 2 (Sci-Fi, 10am-3pm) is the show featured in the Sci-Fi marathon du jour.
Charles Grodin will be the guest on a new episode of The View (ABC, 10am in most markets, check your local listings). I know I'll want to hear what Mr. Grodin has to say.
Barbara Walters will be a guest on a new Iyanla (syndicated, check your local listings). And Montel Williams (syndicated, check your local listings) is also doing new shows about recent events.
Baseball is back. If you missed Baseball Tonight (ESPN, 11am) last night, you can catch the morning rerun.
Dodger's in a coma, but life continues on China Beach (History Channel, Noon and 6pm).
It looks like one of my favorite shows is going to be aired in the afternoon again for a while. Cool! It's The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. (TNT, 2pm weekdays). Bruce Campbell stars in the quirkiest western since The Wild, Wild West.
There will be a new episode of The Rosie O'Donnell Show (syndicated, check your local listings) today. Really! I mean it this time! Guests are probably Valerie Harper, Mario Cantone, Christine Ebersole.
And there'll be another new episode of Oprah (syndicated, check your local listings) dealing with current events.
Two episodes of The X-Files: "The Post Modern Prometheus" (FX, 5pm) and "The End" (FX, 6pm and midnight).
Special investigators visit Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed). And Garibaldi restores a motorcycle.
Mandy Patinkin and Dick Wolf on Museum of Television and Radio's Influences (Bravo, 6pm). Hosted by Alan Alda.
A special new two-hour episode of Big Brother (CBS, 7pm-9pm). Wherein another houseguest is booted out, leaving only two.
Somehow I hope that Stars Hollow and Stuckeyville and other TV towns are in an alternate universe where the events of last week didn't happen. I console myself by watching the fine people of Stars Hollow on Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm). This is a rerun of the one where Rory runs away to her grandparents place. It's the second-to-last episode of last season.
The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm and midnight) will not air any new shows this week.
There'll be another new Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm). No word yet on who will be the guests, but I'm sure it'll be a good show regardless of who the guests are.
Crosby, Stills, and Nash may be on and probably some other guests yet to be announced will be on a new Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno (NBC, 10:35pm).
I know I won't miss the first new episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien (NBC, 11:35pm) in a while. Scheduled guests are Steve Kroft, Sarah Vowell, Joshua Bell and I predict that it'll be a really good show.
Kelli Williams and Ben Stein will be among the guests on a new Late Late Show w/ Craig Kilborn (CBS, check your local listings).
Another new episode of Politically Incorrect (ABC, check your local listings) with panelists that are yet to be announced (I'll post 'em when I know 'em).
Just a reminder that Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, midnight) is now airing at midnight. Today's episode is a major Luther Mahoney episode: "Bad Medicine".
