Too much God?:
"If I believed in a God of vengeance (I don't), I'd pray for him or her to smite Coulter, Robertson and Falwell, smite them with mercy but smite them nonetheless: hemorrhoids, maybe, for the portly Christian gentlemen; a year of bad hair days for the nasty blond Coulter. (A friend asks, "Does she talk to Jesus with that mouth?") But in the end they'll punish themselves. Falwell and Robertson have to live with their own idiocy: By their twisted logic, the terrorists were agents of God, and thus we should welcome their vengeance."

A truly brilliant idea:
If only we could put God on hold:
"So what a shame we couldn't get all people to put God on hold for a while, and rebuff visions of the next world in a bid to put this one right.

Then the psychopaths and the exclusivists would be seen to be what they are - murderers and bigots - and not be able to cite an invisible higher power as vindication for their violence and thus to hide behind the image of their God.

I think it was Arthur Koestler who said the main cause of the world's problems was not so much some innate impulse for violence in men but the need for people to be certain they are right about everything by forcing others to acknowledge that rightness.

Sadly, people won't go along with my idea because it seems the more insecure they are the more devout they need to be and thus the more spiritually naked and terrified they would feel without their protective dogma."

The so-called "Christian"
Jerry Falwell recently blamed "the attacks on pagans, abortionists, feminists, homosexuals, the American Civil Liberties Union and the People for the American Way." This hurts and offends me on all planes of reality and existence and I feel almost as if this must be an old film reel from the 40's. I have not seen or heard of anything so hateful or blatently Neanderthalistic as these words since the last time I saw a film of Hitler.

Falwell's statement was coupled with that of another horrible excuse for a human being, Pat Robertson. Robertson, who founded the psuedo-Nazi "Christian" Coalition, said in his statement Thursday that Americans have insulted God by allowing abortion and "rampant Internet pornography.'' He also chided the U.S. Supreme Court for, among other things, limiting prayer in public schools.

Sometimes I feel that the god I know is not the same as other Christians. I have a hard time belieiving that the reactionary and hateful rhetoric of these two Neanderthals would even be spoken this week. As America needs more healing and less angry divisiveness, I pray that other Christians will stand up for the only principle we know for sure: God is love. Love is "the greatest of these", is it not? And where is their Christian love?

It truly makes me sick. Today I stand embarrassed to be identified, WITH THEM, a Christian.

Well I'm now back from my second trip.

I got back on August 10 from North Carolina and on August 13, I left for Springfield to work for the Rod Blagojevich for Governor campaign. I just got home on the 17th and tried to catch up on my work this weekend (I failed).
