man, that will self vs littlejohn thing is so cool

no woman is allowed to be educated in Afghanistan, or to work, except in hospitals, or to appear in public unless veiled from head to foot. Couples who have sex outside marriage are flogged. The punishment for men convicted of sodomy is to die by having a wall pushed on top of them: the Taliban use tanks and bulldozers for the job, in front of thousands of spectators. Amnesty so far has documented nine such victims.

i'm ashamed to say that i thought that having a wall pushed onto you for having gay sex was funny.... but only for a minute....

where's the artticle from chris?

the way you stop terrorists is to not create them in the first place, perhaps the CIA should have thought about this. It's like someone being really worried about the lung cancer that's killing them when they've spent a lifetime of their earnings in creating it.

They are no more fanatical than the average american, it is wrong to simply assume that all the muslims must be crazy fanatics, whereas gun wielding americans are simply "civilized". you have simply fallen for US propaganda, everyone is in some way a fanatic, these people simply want revenge.

all forms of terror are bad, i'm not advocating what happened last tuesday, but then i'm the only one i know who also deplores the activities of israel in oppressing the palestinians. people are people, a eath is a death. Bush, in laying the smack down on Afghanistan will only succeed in killing thousands of innocent people (if not directly, then indirectly by driving them into refugee camps) and fuelling the hatred which grips the rest of the world, directed against "the civilized world".

anyway, i fancy going to the pub tonight....

...Well, Robbie's song lyrics are obviously Symposium - but can't think wxactly which song - it might be The End however, but i don't think it is...

All these statments about how military intervention are bad fail to cover one major aspect - that there are a lot of people who were willing to bring about the deaths of thosands of American's, and i can't see that they will stop wanting to do this, inless they get what they want - terrorists ore good on comporomise - they are fanatics. So, what is to be done about them? You can't kill them all, becasue you'd never find them all, and besides, you'd just create a new generation of terrorists, so what do you do about them?
posted by Pepsi's Little brother's oversized anal flump at 1:43 PM

"The Daily Telegraph has set aside part of its leader column for a directory of "useful idiots" (my link), by which it means those who oppose major military intervention. Perhaps the roll of honour will soon include families of some of the victims, who seem to be rather more capable of restraint and forgiveness than the leader writers of the rightwing press. Mark Newton-Carter, whose brother appears to have died in the terrorist outrage, told one of the Sunday newspapers: "I think Bush should be caged at the moment. He is a loose cannon. He is building up his forces getting ready for a military strike. That is not the answer. Gandhi said: 'An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind' and never a truer word was spoken." But when the right is on the rampage, victims as well as perpetrators are trampled.

Mark Twain once observed that "there are some natures which never grow large enough to speak out and say a bad act is a bad act, until they have inquired into the politics or the nationality of the man who did it". The left is able to state categorically that Tuesday's terrorism was a dreadful act, irrespective of provenance. But the right can't bring itself to make the same statement about Israel's new invasions of Palestine, or the sanctions in Iraq, or the US-backed terror in East Timor, or the carpet bombing of Cambodia. Its critical faculties have long been suspended and now, it demands, we must suspend ours too.

Retaining the ability to discriminate between good acts and bad acts will become ever harder over the next few months, as new conflicts and paradoxes challenge our preconceptions. It may be that a convincing case against Bin Laden is assembled, whereupon his forced extradition would be justified. But, unless we wish to help George Bush use barbarism to defend the "civilisation" he claims to represent, we must distinguish between extradition and extermination.

Tuesday's terror may have signalled the beginning of the end of globalisation. The recession it has doubtless helped to precipitate, coupled with a new and understandable fear among many Americans of engagement with the outside world, could lead to a reactionary protectionism in the US, which is likely to provoke similar responses on this side of the Atlantic. We will, in these circumstances, have to be careful not to celebrate the demise of corporate globalisation, if it merely gives way to something even worse.

The governments of Britain and America are using the disaster in New York to reinforce the very policies which have helped to cause the problem: building up the power of the defence industry, preparing to launch campaigns of the kind which inevitably kill civilians, licensing covert action. Corporations are securing new resources to invest in instability. Racists are attacking Arabs and Muslims and blaming liberal asylum policies for terrorism. As a result of the horror on Tuesday, the right in all its forms is flourishing, and we are shrinking. But we must not be cowed. Dissent is most necessary just when it is hardest to voice."

Where's the song from, rob?

Results from a Poll on netscape.com: (as of now) Poll: Should U.S. law be changed to allow the assassination of hostile foreign leaders? Yes: 75% 229736 votes No: 25% 75044 votes 304783 votes total..

Okay, my next Poll is going to be "Should Afghanistan law be changed to allow the assassination of hostile foreign leaders?". Because what sway should US law have outside of the US?

Okay, that's enough politics for me at the moment. But man, blogging's fun..

well, I'm up for going out tonight - I may or may not be working tomorow, but what the hell - life's too short to... not go down the pub...

Anyway, after over an hour on the dabs.com voicemail queuing system "you are number...'2' in the queue" for the 100th time... I've been told no, i can't have my money back, it's been too long,a nd my processor may take up to 4 weeks, to replace, althoguht may only take 1 week - but that's still one week too long...

And i got an interesting text message.. does anyone know who's number is +447881924099 ? I'd be very interested to know - and if i find it's someone who is on my phone, but has been changed for "humorous" effect, then i will be really, really pissed off - after all i let people use my phone for their benefit, not mine, which i got into trouble for and was nearly charged for, abnd yet people still fuck with my phone - i'd just like to say to anyone who does that kind of thing - cheers - what great friend you are...

Kant, for example, would not approve of Phil Collins, who in Another Day in Paradise suggests that helping the homeless is the best way to gain ourselves a seat in heaven. Not, Kant would suggest, because helping the homeless is not a good thing, but the gesture only has value if we are doing it because it is a good thing, rather than to ensure ourselves a reward. If we were to gain another day in paradise by killing the homeless, it would not make it a good thing. Promises of paradise as reward have no relation to the value of such an action.

Similarly, whilst the Americans attacking Iraq was a good thing because it fought oppression, that's okay, but it was done in "the wrong way and for the wrong reasons". So, the benefit of the oppresive reigime being attacked only came about because the Americans wanted "another day in paradise", or just some oil. If the oil had come from mutiliating a load of disabled people and squeezing it from their withered arms, it would have had the same effect. Fighting oppression and helping the homeless are just the respective by-products of America's lust for oil and Phil Collins wanting another day (for you and me) in paradise.

Man. I should let my mind wander more often.

oh man and the like.. i've had two days off work this weekend (it being the weekend and all that) and i've hardly rested the whole time god dammit trying to sort out stuff for uni and et cetera and breaking my gosh darn glasses and being in work today looking like uber-80's-computer-geek with masking tape wrapped round my glasses.. gawd demmit..

tonight it's more running about dammit
need to phone and stuff
you guys? are you about? need to go to the bee hive with my darn passport and damn well buy a drink. i could do it when i've got all this tape on my glasses just to look even younger / stranger and still prove i'm twenty.. hmm.. shaihan can i borrow your anorac?

dammit. so much to do, so little time..

man, politics make me angry.. but we have to be interested on them; "he who cannot draw on three thousand years is living from hand to mouth" - plato.. we can't just say "life's too short to be interested in politics", because whilst we can have that attitude in our nice middle class st. albans suburbia, that doesn't mean they aren't important. god damn it.

um. i'm not making a great deal of sense.
1. want to see you guys.
2. hellish hectic weekend with lots of running about
3. hurt my leg, and broke my glasses. that'll teach me to ........
4. i'm wearing my 'alan shirt' at work today. it's really cold.
5. politics are hellishly important. and Internet Distribution Services is leader of the tory party. oh dear.

..Well, you can hardly condone the US's actions, but you can argue that they weren't done purely to hurt Iraq, but becasue of their oppresive regime - i know that America only really reacted because they were worried about oil, but still, they are doing the right thing in opposing Saddam Hussein, even if they are doing it the wrong way and for the wrong reasons.

anyway - '13" pizza - serves 3-4' my arse!

and if tat turns out not to be true, try this for size

Fact: On September 11, 2001, as many as 10,000 Americans were killed by unknown persons in symbolic attacks on US military and economic power. The world morns and expresses outrage. US activists respond likewise.

Fact: Between 1991 and 2001 an average of 3,800 Iraquis were killed *EACH WEEK* by US military action and economic sanctions. The world yawns, and US activists largely do likewise Indymedia.org

All around the world we are subjected to 3 or 4 huge news distributors, and one of them - as you well know - is CNN. Very well, I guess all of you have been seeing (just as I've been) images from this company. In particular, one set of images called my attencion: the Palestinians celebrating the bombing, out on the streets, eating some cake and making funny faces for the camera.

Well, THOSE IMAGES WERE SHOT BACK IN 1991!!! Those are images of Palestinians celebrating the invasion of Kuwait! It's simply unacceptable that a super-power of cumminications as CNN uses images which do not correspond to the reality in talking about so serious an issue. A teacher of mine, here in Brazil, has videotapes recorded in 1991, with the very same images; he's been sending emails to CNN, Globo (the major TV network in Brazil) and newspapers, denouncing what I myself classify as a crime against the public opinion. nyc.indymedia.org email: Márcio A. you know what.... i almost completely agree with that article you posted chris. There is no excuse ever for killing civilians, but what goes around comes around. And america needs it's big fat whore ass to be kicked severely
posted by Lt. Frank Monahan's oversized anal flump at 11:17 AM

Ok, firstly, my responce to the comment from chris - the article from chris fails to take into account that the regimes that the US were funding rebellion against (if that makes sense) were almost certainly being funded and trained by the USSR at the time, so America was retaliating in kind - put simply, America has been trying to protect it's own interests with it's foreign policy, just like any other country, rich or poor - the weak curry the favour of the powerful, and the powerful enforce their dominance over the weak, and do their best to continue their dominance... And finally, the article quotes the bible at one point "he who sows the seed reaps the whirlwind", well here's another quopte for you "two wrongs do not make a right".

Anyway, after my responce to that, here's what i have to say - tonight, i drank quite a lot. So did quite a few people - i'm not sure that the fighters has ever seen that much chunder in one night - yes, you guessed it - it was Nihal's 18th birthday! He got so very drunk, that he vommited at about 10, and was then in a barely consious state for the rest of the nihgt, until shaihan, and his mate took him home, when he was still pretty much the same - maybe now he has learnt his lesson.

Incedentally, i have the broken remains of Robbie's unbrella, but i can't really say why i bothered to take it home with me - it didn't even seem like a good idea at the time...

Anyway, the potato cannon is under construction, although there are some doubts emerging about just how effective it will be - but that remains tio be seen... As for buying a replica gas powered AK-47, that would be very cool, but it's not the same as building yourself a weapon, even if it porves to be truly pathetic in conparison....
