recently posted a link to an article discussing a copse of trees in Germany that from the air is visible as a swastika formation, apparently planted in the late 1930's by a Nazi loyalist. The government of Germany will be chopping it down, as displaying the swastika is illegal in Germany these days. My friend and former colleague

"In the main hall of the HQ of the US 1st Armored Division (in the late 1970s early 1980s) in Ansbach Germany is a huge marble inlayed swastika, at least it was still there in 1980 when my family lived there. While the US Army occupied the base it was covered with a carpet. The reason for it being there is that the base was the home of the German 53rd Artillery Regiment during World War II.
Ansbach is in the foothills of the Alps. The Red Army planned to drive through the rolling hills and flat land surrounding Ansbach on their way to the Atlantic.
