What is it about Ireland and the Celts that fascinates us so? "The word "celtic' conjurs up many things. To some people, it evokes a hypnotic design from the Book of Kells or the Tara Brooch; to others, it is a plaintive song, accompanied by a lone fiddler or piper; or again, it is a mystical past , peopled with Arthurian knights and druids. All these notions have some basis in reality, but most are half-truths, seen through a veil of Romanticism" (from Chronicles of the Celts, Ian Zaczek).

Mr. Zaczek is right on the mark; today designs inspired by the Book of Kells and the Tara Brooch are immensely popular, as is celtic music and celtic spirituality. That veil of Romanticism we look through was partly constructed by poets like Yeats, who looked to the past for lyrical inspiration.

The Irish Realm follows his lead, extolling the wonders of Ireland by realizing her past and celebrating her present through history, literature, and language.

As you might notice, updates are not frequent right now. :) The semester is in full swing and I am just too busy to post here on a regular basis. So until winter break, updates will be few and far between.

Paedophiles seek refuge in Ireland...it's time to act, people! I think the paper should have continued the "name and shame" campaign. Paedophiles deserve all the harsh and horrible treatment they can get!

Can you believe no Irish have been to Siberia? Okay, maybe you're saying there's a good reason for that, it's, you know, Siberia. Haha. But finally, Siberia welcomes its first Irishman.

Gerry Adams makes some interesting remarks, focusing on the fact that Unionists would be 'better off' in united Ireland...which of course causes several Unionists to vehemently disagree.
