This guy's great! Mr. Nice

The most INSANE computer case I've ever seen!

Evolving computers?

Ever lost a server before? These people had to work with Novell to find theirs...

Apparently someone out there is listening to Dr. Laura?

A spam encoder. Give it a short, one-line message, and it'll encode it as spam. Make it look to the feds like all you're getting is spam rather than real encoded messages...

Woo hoo! Now you can get porn from Yahoo!

Now, really. Would you want to name your kid after a cable channel?

I saw this on: Booda's journal
Submitted by Tony Sutton:

Would you like to volunteer your computer to help with the research for Cancer? If so, why don't you join the LiveJournal Team, which Scott Freeman recently created. At the moment, we have 15 members and it's growing. But we need more! And there is where you can help.

United Devices is similar to SETI@Home but United Devices is for researching cancer, where they're looking for a cure. The team was created because cancer is a killer, and we want to help to find a cure for it.

You can download the clients from here and it's available to Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4 and 2000. Linux and Macintosh versions should be available soon.
Hope to see you aboard!

Beware the subliminal messages!

So, I found this pretty neat site the other day. BrainBuzz.com. It's a site for "IT Professionals", but it has a neat feature called "SkillDrills". Skill Drills are little tests to determine your proficency in areas from Access Databases to XML Programming. And if you pass with a score of 3.5 or higher, they'll mail you a certificate saying you passed. I don't know if they mean anything in the real world, but I think it's pretty cool.

Yes, that's right. I am now the proud owner of the world's most sought-after video game console, the Playstation 2. I won it last night in a raffle at Draggin' Bytes. This was the replacement for the one that was destroyed. I invested a whopping $40 (at $5/ticket) into the raffle and won the grand prize. I can't decide if I want to keep it, though. I could use the money to be gained by selling it on eBay, but I never win anything... I think I'll keep it. SWEETNESS!!!!

Xeno's Destruction Diary

The night started like any other....

HOW TO PURGE EVIL
By: Xeno
Mail to: Trevordevonshire@hotmail.com

You get together with a few friends and expect to have a good time. You're talking to them about how much fun you have at owning just about every console system on the market. That's when the trouble starts...

The media frenzy known as PS2 is as unnerving as it is frightening, and it just won't stop. Every day, you hear questions about PS2's and when they can "get one." I try to tell them just how wrong they are for thinking so foolishly, for thinking that something so expensive and over-hyped can do everything for them, including laundry. I try to tell them that it's a $300 mistake. I knew this, because I had one....

HAD being the operative word.

So, working at a lovely little place that gives an extended warranty to each system bought, made me glad I bought it from there, for without it, I wouldn't be able to do, what I'm going to do next.

Operation: Xplosion it was called. It's premise was simple enough. Get a PS2, weapons, and a warranty, videotape the whole thing, and revel in my own glory. The second PS2 I'll speak about in a sec, but there is the plan in a nutshell.

I knew a rather large group of people, (13 other than myself wound up attending, although others would have had they not had to work... suckers) who shared the same sentiment about the infernal device that I did, so I thought it only right to take them with me, and also ask for their help. They brought me the weapons. I used only what they brought, nothing less, nothing more. I had their support, and I had their devotion to the cause. I prepared the victim with some orange spray paint in the fashion of a Sega Swirl(TM) upon it's pathetic PS2 logo. The evil was ready to be purged.

The first few cracks were with an axe handle, used originally in "disciplining" the youth, and was quite successful in cracking the rock hard exterior of the PS2, however, like Sony, it would take more than one lunatic with an axe handle to take it down. The next weapon was a wonderful little dagger which pierced the very core of it's electronic body. The force sent shockwaves everywhere, as I used my boot to push the waste off the blade. I felt bad though, I managed to get shit on the blade. Everything about the PS2 is shit like that. After the blade, a good old-fashioned baseball bat was up to the "plate". At this point the PS2 has some light structural damage, and had quite a bit of rattling parts. A few swings made the small expansion port pop off. Being the cocky guy I was, I thought I'd just bat the thing away, but upon 2 whiffs, I decided against it. This is when I was handed a golf club. Yeah, I missed that shot too, and in frustration, I asked for something better. I was handed a rapier, and with it I did strike the very soul of the demon, but by no means was it down for the count. A few more scratches later, I wanted something else. I received a claymore as the sun slowly set in the world behind me. The claymore put up a vicious fight, however, the sheer fortitude of the PS2 stood too string for the claymore, as it bent in the most unnatural of ways. Light was growing short, and time was wasting. It was time to finish what I started.

The sledgehammer. "The Hand Of Xeno" if you will. I looked forward to using this weapon since I saw it. It's silver head shining in the fading sunlight, with a small sticker that said, "Made in the U.S.A." With a mighty scream of "Take this you damned Japanese!" the sledgehammer drove into the PS2 shattering it's hull, and revealing it's bitter innards, which I then crushed, repeatedly. The sound of souls being released into the new night sky met my ears as the motherboards and chips were spread among the field. I then lowered the hammer, and asked my audience, "You guys want a crack at it?"

Like ravenous whores on a cock, they tore the pitiful thing to shreds, until WastedLife thought of using the flammable spray paint as a way to "purify the horrors contained within the little black box." Without hesitation, everyone looked in awe as he placed the flames of hell upon the now helpless PS2. It's when he tried to put the spray can itself into the flames, I stopped him. No need for human casualties, that's just what Sony'd want.

We picked up the pieces, and took them back to my work, where I was promptly told that my second one is "in the mail." I work there, so if they're lying, I've got at least 13 angry people who'll back me up. Which brings me to my secondary purpose of the destruction of the PS2.

The rest of this will wind up being some kind of advertising, so if you want to stop, I'd say stop here. As for the rest of you, you know I don't want the second PS2. I despise the cursed thing. If I could stop them from spreading I would, but I know one man cannot, so rather than help capitalism, (Not to mention E-bay) I'm raffling off said PS2. Yes. A Raffle.

In California, near the San Francisco Bay Area, is a town called Livermore, inside this rather small town, is a wonderful place called Draggin' Bytes. I hang out here, and every Thursday night, we show animè. I love Animè night and would do just about anything to keep it going nicely, so I'm going to raffle it (The PS2, not animè night) off, at $5 a ticket to everyone who wants in. The Drawing will take place the 22nd of February and half the proceeds go to me, while the other half, go to animè night to buy more animè, because you can never have too much animè.

Either way, I hope this gets Draggin' Bytes some publicity, and some lucky person a PS2. That way, at least someone can walk out of this happy, and I can walk out, barely affording lunch. Eh, $300 was worth every penny, for the looks on the faces of everyone who sees the carnage I brought. I expect to lose money, I know I will. I don't really care, so long as I find one person as pleased with what I've done as I am, then my task is complete.

Thank you for listening to my rambling. If you have any questions/comments/concerns about my mental state, feel free to E-mail me at TrevorDevonshire@hotmail.com. I promise to personally respond to each and every e-mail pertaining to the PS2, my methods, or anything like that. Also, anything involving the videotape I'll tell The web master here about updates on it's condition, so that I might sell it. ^_^

Dark Master Of Ill Intent.

Wanton destruction!

So, last night (Feb 1, 2001) several friends and myself went out to a deserted field and bashed the crap out of a Playstation 2. It was beautiful. Now, I'm usually against pointless destruction and most forms of stupidity, but sometimes, and very rarely, it feels SO good and right. THIS was one of those times.

So, we all caravaned up from a central meeting place and headed out to a section of suburbia near a construction site. We were fairly safe because we went a good distance away from the houses and were on the other side of the sound wall. When we finally reached our location, some people prepared their weapons, Xeno unpacked the PS2.

First, the spray paint. Xeno sprayed upon the PS2 the Dreamcast logo, then proceeded to flip it over and put his name upon it. The first true weapon was the "whupin' stick" provided by Luthien (used to beat many a little sister). This left some nice dents, but the PS2 it seems had fairly sturdy construction. But a piece did come loose. The expansion port cover. Xeno decided to tee this piece off with the golf club provided by Tenferg, but Xeno, unfortunately, is no golfer and missed. He went for the kicking of it instead. Next came my 10-inch knife to stab the PS2. This made several nice holes in the case and I think that Xeno got it clear through once. After this, a couple of moments of stomping the PS2 ensued.

Next, the baseball bat also provided by JacksWastedLife was used. Nice bashing, but unfortunately the baseball bat cracked. It is no longer with us. The bat was followed by the first sword provided by VaguelyAsian Gabe. A nice long black Claymore. Unfortunately, it wasn't too sharp. The next weapon was the hammer provided by Dan. This was probably one of the most effective weapons so far. It made lots of little pieces when weilded using the claw end.

The next weapon was a chain with a lock on the end provided by VaguelyAsianGabe. While it looked quite nice, it wasn't very effective. Next weapon. Out came sword #2. Pretty basic and cheap, provided by JacksWastedLife, it bent quite nicely when Xeno tried to hit the PS2 with it. It was time to get serious. Serious like a 10lb. sledgehammer provided by Tenferg. This was VERY effective. It made many smaller pieces of the PS2. At this point, Xeno himself was done and let others take shots at the machine. VaguelyAsianGabe started it off by trying to shoot the PS2 with his friend's pellet gun. This was just silly. It then escalated into a free-for-all (taking turns so as not to hurt anyone) with people weilding the weapons of their choice. I stopped paying too much attention at this point so I could have my chance to stab it with my knife. And when I did, I got the majority of what was left stuck on the end of my knife. I had to rip it back off so as to allow more bashing to be had.

JacksWastedLife at this point had the idea of combining the spray paint with fire. It was very pretty watching him set fire to the remains. However, his idea of setting fire to the can itself made everyone else run for their lives. Fortunately, he did not succeed in this. We then all danced upon the remains of the PS2 and made grunting noises a la 2001: A Space Odyssey. :)

Now it was time to collect the pieces (and souvenirs) and return them to Electronics Boutique. Because Xeno had purchased the extended warranty, he was able to return the pieces of this PS2 and get a new one shipped to him in the mail. It should be arriving soon. And so ended a glorious evening.

If I got any names wrong, I apologize. E-mail me and I'll fix it.
