No action here for a while. Lots of shit has happened not reflected here. Just thought I'd try the Blog This function in my pop up browser menu.
This is a sentence I found that succinctly summarises an aspect of the story I'm now writing - "Increasing economic ties between Taiwan and China should encourage a compromise on cross-strait discussions".
My focus is on the economic ties angle.

OK. So it's been a month and a half. At least I have the excuse that for a month of that I was on holiday and was trying to minimise my daily interaction with a computer screen. I succeeded, kind of, although e-mail withdrawal symptoms and some computer ed remedial classes for my parents over Christmas meant it wasn't a complete break.
What else has been going on? I've been back at work for three weeks and I'm still acclimatizing (and procrastinating). Trying to force myself to write over Chinese New Year when most of the population has quite sensibly gone on vacation has proved less productive than I hoped, but deadlines loom and I must complete my trilogy of stories on Taiwan - banking M&A, capital raising in the electronic manufacturing industry and Taiwanese telecom companies - some juicy subject material huh?
Taiwan's an interesting place though. Despite the fact I spent much of the time being terrorised by taxi drivers ferrying me through the traffic between interviews it was good to be somewhere different. Some photos will follow when I get round to developing the film.

Me with a Thai movie star in Bangkok. Her name is Emma (something), a very pleasant Thai-American girl. She was paid to show up at a product launch party I was attending in my capacity as freeloading journalist.

Roof with a View (HK)
This is the view from my rooftop in Tin Hau. It looks much better when not viewed via a cheap digital camera plug-in for a Handspring Visor Deluxe PDA. It would be nice if I could actually see this view from my flat, but alas, though I live on the top floor I am stuck behind a neon billboard advertising peanut oil.

Day 0. These first words to appear will be the only ones, until I can customise my template to better reflect future content.
