if i leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me? i wanted to set up "movingcam" or maybe "House Of Boxes cam" or maybe "Where The Fuck Did We Put The Tape? cam" but we seem to have already packed all items USB. such is moving week. the movers get here wednesday, and we leave friday morning, but we're trying to pack at least 97% of it today to avoid panic attacks tomorrow night. im blogging now because while josh and i are keeping out one computer for shared netfixes, my own personal rig will be crated up for a week or more, and i might not get to update this thing for a while. too bad i dont have anything important to say. im really anxious/excited/freaked out about all of this moving back home shit, and its just a lot easier to drink beer and pack than it is to get philosophical and write about it here. it even took me 4 minutes to type that last sentence. comments? tell me about it...5/21/2001 01:50:19 PM

all aboard for the Oregon Trail! a discussion on irc regarding the crap my school district used to pass off as "technology" spawned a websearch for the old version of The Oregon Trail. i found severalplaces that had newer versions for download or for sale (what?), but apparently nobody but us fogies remember the version that was mostly text with ascii graphics and only beeps and brief midi files for sounds. if you have this version of the game, or know where to get it, or, hell, if you just REMEMBER it, leave me a message below. in the meantime, for those of you who played the colorized graphical version (wussies), enjoy this: comments? tell me about it...5/15/2001 01:01:15 PM

check out my oldschool excuse! i meant to post this as soon as lance told me about it, several days ago, but i can use the oldest netgeek excuse in history for not doing so: I have a life! alas, having a life outside of the net means you miss out on some stuff, and now this is being posted all over creation. even people who claim to hate the search for "the next big thing" on the internet have posted this one all over their own pages, so hurry up and join the movement before its too late, and you end up like those people who still think saying "all your _____ are belong to _____" is funny.
im dating a major! josh turned 21. sorry the pics came so late, it really took us a while to fully recover. am i still drunk? comments? tell me about it...5/6/2001 02:48:48 AM

loverboy kicks ass
So last night's Blazer game (which I wont be providing you a link for because I dont give a rat's ass about professional sports) went into overtime or whatever they call it when neither side will just give up and go home. The post-game show was cutting into precious hours allotted for the illustrious Art Bell, and the host was bitching on and on about not having any callers. Josh finally got fed up and took the cordless into the bedroom and closed the door. A few minutes later, I hear the sports show host say he's got "Kevin" on the line with a comment for the masses... "Kevin" then tells the host he needs to "quit doing this show and put Art Bell back on, because nobody cares about the Blazers anyway." The host sighs, reluctantly agrees with "Kevin" and in no more than 5 minutes' time, Art was blaring out of the ole Grundig again. Josh grinned like a cheshire cat through the rest of the night, while he kicked my ass repeatedly at 6-dotted dominoes. comments? tell me about it...4/27/2001 02:05:29 PM

UFO Pizza
we were just at the most KICKASS place, UFO Pizza on Glisan in PDX. we'd seen the place before, and i've peeked in and noticed the large UFO-shaped chandelier on my way to Biddy's, but we'd never noticed the big plastic UFO out front, with lettering that reads: UFO BELIEVERS MEET HERE EVERY THURSDAY AFTER 5PM with old-fashioned christmas lights all around it. we'd been walking around looking for a good supper, preferably someplace with outdoor seating, and it was just about 6 o'clock. we spotted the picnic benches from across the street, then the sign. inside, there was a small group sitting at the large table in the back (who were out front, but moved inside, eyeing us very carefully as they did) discussing the deplanetation of Pluto and the lost Mars probe. the place was decked to the hilt with little plastic aliens and big lit-up UFOs. the food is named after planets and stellar myths, i had a fabulous slice of garlic cheese "moon pizza" and josh had what he dubbed a "cornucopia of gyro." next week we plan on bringing eric and the most recent additions to his crop circle photo collection. did i mention the owner had homemade shortwave radio antennae strung up all around the ceiling of the place, and a computer on what seemed to be his personal table near the kitchen...?
josh and i have also really gotten into dominoes, these are the ones he picked up at 'Greens on his way home. lovely little way to pass time. i kicked his ass the first time we played, then he kicked mine after UFO Pizza, now its the final play-off before bedtime. GO ME!
muffler men and fainting goats josh and i have decided to hook through minneapolis on our move to nebraska. it'll give us a chance to slug beers with jessica and ryan in whatever the Lower Landing has turned into these days, and it's a route not yet taken by josh, so he can see something new, like the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota (here's a good pic). cruising through my favorite roadtrip site, roadsideamerica.com, ive come across several places we're going to need to stop at along the way. the list currently includes the Enchanted Highway in ND, the Spam Museum in Austin, MN, and, of course, the Future Birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk, in Riverside, Iowa. i love this website, and while i haven't ever sent them any of my own findings from out on the road, i've certainly borrowed their tidbits of wisdom to guide my own excursions.
i'll light the fire, you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today... our house is a very, very, very fine house. and if you wanna see the insides, click here. that page won't be up for long, though, since we just took it off the market. i can't tell you what peace sealing this deal has brought us. we now have a backyard patiently waiting for us in Lincoln, Nebraska, home of "the good life" (also waiting are three sunrooms, a fireplace, a front porch, french doors, and more space than josh could ever fill with computers). all is well with us. comments? tell me about it...4/19/2001 03:22:39 PM

R.I.P. kozmo.com
josh brought this to my attention yesterday, but it depressed me too much to write about it. we loved kozmo with all our hearts, and we're very sad to see it go, even if we only could have used it for another month or so. also, they were the only place left in town who'd still rent us movies. comments? tell me about it...4/12/2001 03:27:32 PM

pure morning
a friend in need's a friend indeed, a friend with weed is better...
sorry. its been a while. my days are long and boring and my nights are fully occupied. between having absolutely nothing interesting to say, and having stuff to say that's too indepth for a blog, i havent been keeping up my responsibilities to my fans. let's attempt to rectify that, shall we?
we're leaving town may 25th. at least that's the plan so far. moving costs are much more pricey than i had originally thought, and apprently may 25th marks the beginning of the peak moving season. swell. we're probably going to send our stuff ahead of us to either a house rented via my mother long distance, or to said mother's two-car garage (car hole). i really kind of like the idea of spending a week or so with nothing but our backpacks, tents, one computer (with modem), and a six-pack in the fridge. we're thinking of having a little shindig in the bare apartment, BYOC (bring your own chair). mom's got a few houses scoped out and will be emailing us photos of some of our current options soon. i'll share them with you all as i get them.
don't you wish you could get paid for helping your friends and family? i mean, not that helping isnt enough reward, but how cool would it be if your JOB was to just help everyone else out? to be a listener, a driver, a mover, a hand-holder, a joke-teller... and then to not have to say "i gotta go, i have to work in the morning" at horribly important moments? ive been offered the job of daycare provider for my nephew PERMANENTLY from 7-11am during the schoolyear... i could pass out from all the circles closing up in my life. how wonderful. i'll also be the on-call driver for grandma and grandpa's (and mom's, probably) doctor appointments. i'd also like to officially extend an open invitation for any and all friends in lincoln, nebraska to feel free to stop by my house for lunch any weekday, as i'll already be up and half-done with my day, and will probably be making lunch for myself and my brother anyhow. come over and tell me your problems, how much your job sucks, how much you love that i'm back in town, etc. for those of you i'll be living closer to (including minneapolis), i want you all to feel that mi casa es tu casa. a great bar, a fabulous vegetarian restaurant, an eccentric used bookstore, a good hiding place. we have two futons and an 8-foot sofa waiting to be slept on by the likes of you. we're moving there to spend more time with the likes of you. these details should not be forgotten by the likes of you. comments? tell me about it...4/10/2001 10:33:08 AM
