  • In need of medical attention
I am tired. I have almost completed a new layout. I spent a few hours tonight fixing up some things to change the look fo what I had been working on and I think I'm happier with it now. Now I have to control-C/control-V a ton of stuff to fit in the new layout. It should be up in the next couple of days, anyway.

I went out last night. I kicked butt on the pool table. I stil may not be a very good player, but I can often turn it on when I have to. I hit some awesome shots.

I am now in a mode that we used to refer to at my previous workplace as "transition". Transition to vacation phase, where you know you only have day or two left and cannot wait for it to begin and are therefore easily distracted at your workplace. One thing I will be doing on my vacation is going to Halifax on Tuesday with my sister and Cameron for Cam's first check-up with a plastic surgeon since her surgery. We're going to lunch at the Lone Star while we're there. I have this real desire for some chicken fajitas. The last time I was there was on my birthday this year with Ryan and his girlfriend Elaine before the IME show. Bruce nearly stepped in leftover fajitas when he got into their car. Before that I hadn't been there in a couple of years,

Cars. I fucking hate mine. I had to get a couple small things fixed on my yesterday which I didn't have to pay for because it was covered by warranty. But I want another fucking car. I may see about getting something new, although if I want to get out of my lease I have to get another Toyota.

I think I'm going to go to bed soon. Later.

  • Why you trying to second guess me?
I have been working on a new design and I'm almost finished, but I'm thinking it looks too much like the designs I've always done. I don't know. I'll probably finish it, anyway and then start working on something else.

  • The body rock
You know, I love Moby. I really do. Play is one of my favourite records from the past year. I just wish he didn't allow so much commercial use of his songs. That's something that bugs me about artists I like. At least when IBM co-opted "Superman" (a song made famous by REM) it wasn't a sog actually written by REM, so they had no control over it. f course, that's why IBM picked it. A company executive said people think of it as an REM song and REM has a reputation for being pretty earnest so it lent the company credability by association. Bah.

Anyway, I suppose hearing Moby songs on two television commercials wasn't quite as bad as hearing "Body Rock" used as the theme song for that awful sit-com Veronica's Closet. Ick.

That title was my lame little play on words on The Blue-Green Oranges of Hieronymus Boche, which apparently inspired the title of the most recent I Mother Earth record. Read the link and you'll get my meaning. I really like those guys, I like them as people as well as musicians, but sometimes they're a little too ... well, guy-ish for me. Meaning, they're a little too much like the guys I hang out with.

I stayed up until 1 a.m. this morning finishing Memoirs of a Geisha. I started reading it about a week ago, but up until Friday I was only on page 50-something because I didn't have much time. I basically read for a lot of the weekend. Awesome book. I highly recommend it. I'm about to start reading Black Spring by Henry Miller. Then I think I'm going to re-read Braided Lives by Marge Piercy, which is one of my favourite books and which was part of the most awesome course I took in my entire university career -- Fictions of Development, an English class which was cross-listed as a Women's Studies class (I took a lot of women's studies courses in university). If you ever go to Dalhousie University, try to take that course, if it's still offered; at the very least, take a class with the professor Marjorie Stone, because she lives and breathes the books. We studied a lot of my favourite novels that year: The Diviners; Jane Eyre; The Awakening; Lives of Girls and Women. We also did one terrible book -- Great Expectations. I fucking hate Dickens.

  • Happy Canada Day
It's the nation's 33rd birthday. Yahoo. I spent a portion of the day at the town's Canada Day festivities with my sister, bro-in-law and their kids. Then I spent the rest of the day reading. I love just sitting outside and reading. I think that's how I'll spend my vacation.

I saw I Mother Earth on Word for Word, something where rocker types talk about the books they're reading. Brian explained that he was reading a McCartney bio, Christian said he just finished Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon (awesome book, BTW), and Bruce reccommended Timothy Findlay's Not Wanted On The Voyage. What's funny about this is the one time that Bruce was in my car, what was the book I had in my car? Timothy Findlay's Not Wanted On The Voyage. He asked who was reading it and he remarked that it's a really cool book. I thought thought that was a kind of weird coincidence.

Three years ago today, I spent the day walking around Toronto with Han and Tara, doing some shopping, doing the mediating thing because Tara was getting on Han's nerves. I thought it was amazing that stores in Toronto were open on Canada Day (not hard to tell I come from Nova Scotia). I was reminded of this because I turned on Much Music and saw heir coverage of Edgefest. Three years ago a couple of days ago, I was at Edgefest to see my final IME show with Ed. It was also my scariest concert experience because I was in a group of people in the crowd who fell and was nearly trampled. Anyway, it was the week that I spent in Ontario with people that I met on the Internet. But most of the people I met were really cool. There was the night after the party at Donna's house when everyone was sleeping on the floor in her basement when I awoke to found some guy stroking my foot. It was fucking weird. I yanked my foot away, tolf him to fuck off and went back to sleep.

Anyway, a guy I know (Sarah and Kelli's step-brother) has been following Pearl Jam around Europe. He saved his money and took a month off of work to do it. He was at Roskilde. I just talked to Sarah awhile ago and she said he called to say he's okay.

Remaking The Breakfast Club? Blasphemy. John Hughes must die. This would absolutely ruin the legacy of The Brekfast Club. I love This movie, goddammit. I even love the sanitized version that they run on TBS when it's almost like watching Godzilla -- the word you hear don't match the characters' mouths. Heh.

"No ... I never did it!" -- Molly Ringwald's big confession that she is a virgin. It will be a sad day when those words come out of the mouth of Sarah Michelle Gellar or one of the Dawson's Creek chicks.

    Shudder.

I saw clips from Vince Vaughn's new movie. His hair is getting too long. I like it short short. I think he's sexy. But he's like 6' 4" which is too tall for me. Whenever I go out with guys that tall my neck gets sore when I try to talk to them. For Vince, however, I make an exception. And he apparently likes women with very "feminine" voices since he's with that actress that had a "Joe" in her name (I forget her name) who was in Chasing Amy.

  • She's three miles of bad road
I've been listening to REM all night, letting my CD changer go from Monster to Green to Reckoning -- probably the three REM CDs that I listen to the least. I fucking love REM. Sometimes I have a tendency to forget how much I love them.

Are there ever times when you realize you're not the person that you think you are? Like you think you have certain principles and standards by which you will live your life but you find yourself breaking some pretty major ones? Because I think I'm starting to realize I'm probably not a very good person, in some ways.

Anyway, there have just been some weird things going on in my life that I would like to attempt to put out of my head.

Last night I ended up going out and drinking too much beer. I'm at the point where more than three is too much because I end up with stomach difficulties. Anyway, it was an alright night. At least I got to watch Survivor.

Matt flew back home yesterday. I talked to him before he left. I'm looking forward to August when everybody will actually be in the same room together for the first time in years.

I received the latest issue of my university alumni magazine today. I've never sent in little updates about what I'm doing now like everyone else does, not even when I got the new job. Anybody who matters would know what I'm doing, anyway.

I have to work Saturday. I hate working on Canada Day. But at least I get to go on vacation next Friday. I cannot wait. I'm not really planning on spending much of my vacation on the computer, but I hope to have a new layout up within the next little while. I'm trying something new with rollovers and it's not really working out for me, so I have a feeling it's going to go back to being something very basic.

Today, when Jordan and Cameron were basically hanging off of me and wouldn't go with anyone else, my father started saying stuff about how much the kids love me. And later on he said something else about me having kids. Jesus, slow down, man. I'm not even seeing anyone, for Christ's sake and am interested in no one and don't even know if I ever want to have kids of my own or if I'll get married. If I do get married someday I'm not having a big production like my sister did. Why would someone spend $10,000 on one day when that could pay for one kickass honeymoon. I believe in going away somewhere to get married, going on a trip and then having a party with your friends and family when you get back so that you can pick up their gifts. ;-)

Anyway, I think I'm going to go do something else now. Anyone who reads this who gets to see IME this weekend, enjoy the show. I'm jealous. Tell bruce I said hi.

BTW, IME are going to record a new record this fall. Awesome. I'm assuming that means it will be out by next summer. We won't have to wait three years in between records this time around (just two years).

And Burn to Shine by Ben Harper was just certified gold in Canada. I believe that making him the theme of this latest design was just pushed him over the top. ;-)

  • I want a perfect body ...
I finally came up with the beginnings of a redesign which I like. I think I'll proceed with this one. It may take awhile to get it online, though. The weather has been beautiful lately and all I want to do is sit out on our new deck, read my books and drink coffee.

I didn't mention this yesterday. I have a new boss ... new city editor (the guy I deal with from day to day). We haven't really developed much of a rapport in our two phone conversations. I think I miss my previous boss.

One of the stories I did today was on the local McDonalds getting vandalized by the damn ankle biters in this town. I hate obnoxious teenagers. Most of them are fine, it's the ones who think they're bad asses because they hang out in parking lots which piss me off.

Some dumb fuck practically stepped out in front of my car today when I tried to park in front of the post office and wouldn't fucking move. Dumb shit. I have a tendency to talk to myself (well, swear to myself) when I'm driving and my window was open so the asshole heard what I said. Good. Dumb fuck.

I took Jordan down to the swings at the little park area that is located behind our house today. She just kept saying, "Thank-you Nancy."

Cameron is crawling everywhere, but it's kind of sad to watch her. She drags herself along with her one good arm, with one of her legs dragging behind taking the volume of the blow from thr floor. As a result she has one seriously bruised foot.

If she didn't have one paralyzed arm she would be walking by now. I hope my sister does go ahead with a lawsuit against the doctor who delivered Cam. It's a possibility.
