Monday. Again. The weekend was good though.. we were busy. We ate well and got a lot of stuff done. We joined a gym! They have a lot of cool classes, not to mention a pool, so that might actually be fun. There is only one thing that I really don't like about gyms : the naked old men. I don't know what it is with older men, but they apparantly just don't give a shit and walk around the locker room swinging free. I hate that. Anyways, we saw Jeepers Creepers. It was very good. I haven't seen a movie that actually scared me in a long time, but this one was consistent throughout. Interesting ending. Well, back to work I go. Saturday, September 15, 2001 I can't watch TV anymore. Everywhere I turn... TV, Internet, Newspapers, everything... all running stories about death destruction and war. War. Our civil liberties are being trampled and no one is noticing. Americans are attacking other Americans in the street for no other reason than racial hatred. It is just too much. Friday, September 14, 2001 I got this through e-mail. It is a bit of a long load, but it made feel a bit better about things. Thursday, September 13, 2001 I know everyone is writing about the WTC, but I thought I would pass on some more info. I've been reading an architectural analysis of why the towers fell... it is pretty interesting (if not morbid) reading. You can read it all here, but I will sum up. The WTC towers had a unique construction. Instead of the standard solid columns with supports branching out it had a solid core, and a solid external latticework. Both buildings exibited the same behavior, and both fell almost the same way. When the plane hit, it penetrated the external framework and hit the core support of the building. This normally would not have made the building fall. The reason it fell after so much time is because the impact itself did not cause enough damage to do so... it was the burning jet fuel that weakend the supports. The building of course had internal fire supression, but it was not enough for that kind of fire. When the internal core failed, the floors above the impact fell and overwhelmed the building supports beneath it, causing the entire building to fall. The interesting part is that the external latticework held, which is why the building look like a demolition in that it collapsed straight down. The core fell first, and the building fell away from the latticework into the center. In a lot of the pictures you can still see some of the latticework standing at base level. Had this been standard construction the plane itself would have severed the support columns and it would have simply fallen over then. This is how I understand the article anyway... I may have misunderstodd something so read it for yourself if you wish. I also came across a eye-witness account from some average guy, which can be read here. These are of course more links from /.. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 ... and I hate my job.
More links : You can donate money to the red-cross here, here, and here. A few dollars guys... come on.
For those of you at work without television and not wishing to watch a video stream, I came across something else for you. Someone managed to decode the captioning off of CNN and pipe it into an IRC channel. Get on irc.idlenet.org and join #cnn_newsfeed. There isn't really anything new right now, but it will keep you up to date. This is yet another link passed on from SlashDot.
