"Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home."
Violence, unfortunately, often begets violence. There is no solution there. We must take a good, long, hard look at ourselves. This evil hid in our own shadows because we, in our ignorance and insensitivity, made those shadows available.
Look your neighbor in the eye, not with suspicion, but with curiousity. Share your excess with those in need, not the trash can. Spend more free time with your hand on a soup ladle, not a remote.
These terrorists came to this country and saw much of what they were already programmed to see. We will never change this with bombs, guns and aggression. We will change this when we get back to doing every day what we are doing now - helping our neighbor, giving of ourselves, showing our compassion. We must face the facts that yes, we do have amazing mansions within walking distance of people living in boxes. We throw away, on a daily basis, enough food to feed a village. We have perfectly good, never worn, clothing sitting on our closets, bought on a whim. We are ignorant of others' suffering, unless it is tax-deductible.
We must learn to shine our light again. It is difficult to kill an enemy when you look into his eyes and see, not evil, but yourself.
Plant a different bomb in their midsts. Plant the seed of doubt. About who the evil truly is.
Make sure they see our greatness, our compassion, our generousity, our caring, our strength. And let the doubt fester. Let it eat like a cancer, from within.

Please go see Faith's Moment of Silence. Powerfull.
I thank you so much, Faith, for giving us a down-to-earth human perspective on this. And I am so grateful you are still with us.
I am praying for your brother's friend. And the lives of so many who are still lost.

Strangely, I have so much to say about the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, but the words are such a jumble. Too many thoughts. An incredible day. Terrible tragedies. And immeasurable strength.
Truly, in the end, these horrible acts will bring out the best in the people of this country. We are built of strong stock, this nation. We have the blood and the sinew of years of survivors, dreamers, freedom-fighters. My ancestry in this country started with a prisoner of war who survived torture and bondage to become a landowner and patriarch. Many new citizens of this country come from places where unspeakable acts are a way of life. We are all joined together in our love of this land.
We will survive. We may be damaged. We may be shattered. But we will rise up. And be stronger for it.
We are, above all, a nation that cherishes our free will, nutures our strenghts, and does not bow down in blind servitude to any one deluded, hate-filled icon of tyranny.
We believe in the best of humanity. And we will clear the rubble, honor the dead, heal the injured, then reach into the depths of our shattered hearts and find the best, again.

The intense heat wave has given way to rain, rain, rain. I feel like a prisoner in this house. To step outside kicks in the mild but irritating asthma attack, so the yard is showing the effects of much rain and much neglect. I'll need a machete by the time I'm able to cut the grass.

I SO admire people who can post interesting things every damn day. Is my life really that boring?
Don't answer that.
It's not all that boring from my end. I just can't imagine it being all that interesting from your end. Raising a child (or trying to), running a business (or trying to), paying the bills (or trying to), keeping my sanity (well, I think I've already lost that battle).
Like today. Got up early, planning on trying the meditation/yoga thing, but on my way to the area I've chosen to do that, I
- checked my email
- fed the cat
- picked up some laundry and threw it in the laundry room
- tried to get the laptop out of standby
- made coffee
- washed a few dishes
- opened the sunroom windows
Yes, I am the Queen of the Side-tracked. Needless to say, the meditation/yoga thing didn't work out. Of course, I don't know what I'm doing as far as yoga goes, and as for the meditation - if I could turn off all the noises in my head I might get somewhere.
But I did do a few stretches. Does that count?
