Free Speech Will Win the War.
Posted @ 3:51 PM by dogbomb
I've gotten a selection of thoughts, views and general crap in my inbox over the past few days regarding the terrorist attacks in the USA. I have decided to give up my space to a few of these views.
As you can see, I have the latest news coming through via tickertape at the top of the page. They will remain there until I get bored of them, you people get bored of them or the news is no longer relevant. We will hope for the latter.
From: "Lane Guitzkow" To: "dogbomb" Subject: Tribute To America
This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.
America: The Good Neighbor. Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television Commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts.
None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.
I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those. " Stand proud, America! Wear it proudly!!
Lane
Lane also sent this picture along with this email. This the reason why he loves his country. I can only agree...
From: "Norsehawk" To: "dogbomb" Subject: this is off of www.lumthemad.net
Let me preface this by saying I did not write this, but it does speak from my heart on this matter, the original writer is from the site www.lumthemad.net
A few men- not more than fifteen, according the information available, armed with knives, with box cutters and threats of bombs. Four civilian aircraft. This, apparently, is all it takes to change the world. That, and hate.
I'm going to talk about love.
The kind of love that lets a man put his two-month-old child into someone else's arms so he can try to help make sure that the doomed aircraft he is riding on is not used as a flying bomb.
The kind of love that makes a firefighter run into a teetering skyscraper in the hope that he can rescue the people trapped inside, only to have that building collapse on him and more than a hundred of his brother firefighters.
The kind of love that allows another firefighter to shrug off his injuries, saying, "Whadya expect? I'm a New Yorker!" and then burst into tears, thinking of his fallen buddy, who has ten children.
The kind of love that creates a convoy of physicians and nurses heading for New York City, riding in Ambulances and their own vehicles, not knowing how much help they can be, but just wanting to help.
The kind of love that causes people the country over to stop and give blood, because that's the only way they can help.
The kind of love that permits a community like ours to put aside everything to come together and stand against those who would harm our own.
This country, and the free world beside us, stands shocked and dismayed. We are angry, and justifiably so. We have been attacked by people with no desire but to make us afraid, to make us hurt, perhaps even to make us hate the way they do. Maybe they do this because they know no other way; I personally do not care for thier motives. I know that whatever thier ultimate goals, they have failed already. They attempted to sow fear, and instead reaped heroism.
We are dealing with people who will die in order to kill, so great is their hate. But they are dealing with a people who will give their lives to save the lives of people they don't even know, so great is our love.
In the end, how can they possibly stand against that?
From: "Jeff Downing" To: "Lane Guitzkow" Subject: Re: Tribute To America
Here is my take on it:
I am proud to be American, but I think George W Bush is an idiot. It is largely because of his policies like pulling us out of long-standing international treaties and agreements and his overall total ineptitude at foreign relations in general that draws these extremist attacks. In six short months our relations with China, the Soviet Union, and all of Europe have gone to hell. The Arab world was never exactly the most receptive of American culture and politics, but GWB' s tendency to turn his back on them over the Arab/Israeli situation and his refusal to hear any criticism of Israel has been a catalyst for the terrorist activities to happen. We need to put a different face forward in the international arena, because GWB epitomizes everything much of the world (whether rightly or wrongly) perceives the US to be. The trick is to stay one step ahead by using diplomacy and tact while still achieving your goals. Israel was created by the UN (mainly Britain, and the US has kept it in existence) after WW2 in the middle east and there has been war there ever since. Now it has come home to us. I honestly don't know what the solution to the Israeli/Arab problem is, but I believe it will be a problem indefinately until it erupts into all-out war. It is the result of staunch, unyeilding religious fanaticism, of which extremists on all sides can be accused. I can't say for sure that Tuesday's events would not have happened anyway, but almost certainly not to the extent that it did had GWB and his advisors handled things differently. The French? They have been getting bombed by Islamic fanatics for years now. It pisses me off. It is fucking horrible waht happened Tuesday. I hope we retaliate and annihilate those who are responsible for this, but it should never have happened in first place. I still think that anyone who voted for GWB should be picking up rubble in NYC right now. Jeff Free speech is the greatest.
From: "Ron Nordwall" To: "dogbomb" Subject: no subject
Today a day like no other, where fear and anger, love and compassion combined to bring us all together in one place. Today we are neither people of nationalities nor people of ecnomic status, we are americans. As I sat here yesterday watching the amazing courage of every person in this country, looking for a way to help, a way to accept this horrible monster that has tried to distroy us all. As I sat here ,bound by an unbreakable link to so many families like me who have no peace, thinking of my friends wanting to believe that they are safe,to believe that in this incrediable evil there is hope, there is love, there is america, the best contry in the world, I had to find away to say how I felt, and as walked in to my garage to bring out my torn and tattered flag, faded from years of being displayed, ,I saw the greatness of this country, now having new meaning, tears streamed down my face as I thought of all the families lost, all the courageous emergancy personal who ran selflessly into a building that they knew would fall to save just one person. Thinking of the persons knowing that they were about to give there lives in a most unspeakable way as there plane headed to its final destination... Death . Reading the list of passangers and realizing this evil did not even spare the babies, who's lives had not yet begun, who's parents could not protect them, the horror the fear and realzation that they were all about to die. The tears I seem not to be able to control, one tear for each person who suffers today, one tear for every broken heart, one tear for the country that has been so torn apart, and yet in those tears is a pride for a contry that has pulled together to say NO MORE, we will come through this stronger, closer and in the end, the evil that tears my heart apart will see that it has lost, that in this tragedy, in all of it's evil, it has united the world. We will shed no tears for evil because we are stronger than it can ever be. In the pride I felt for a county that like my torn and tattered flag, still stands for freedome.
Links And Pictures
I was also sent some other things regarding this. I got a ton of links to news sites and flash games which most of you will have already seen. I was sent a link to these incredible images, which are only surpassed by these incredible images. I was also pointed in the direction of getbinladen.com, which unfortunately has gone down since I first saw it, but the notice up there at the minute gives you the feel of what the site was about.
I was also sent this link so many times that it made me sick. I feel that the new version is much better. Take a look at this picture too.
I got some tasteless things sent to me too. The ones I care to print here are: I got this from Ed I got this and this from George Pollard
It is by no means over and while it still rages on, everyone will still have an opinion and I will still get opinions sent to me. I often get bad opinions and often get good opinions. I will always give someone a free voice at dogbomb.co.uk by allowing access to the message board or the live chat. I won't stop someone from saying something I disagree with.
Free Speech is what I will fight for.

It Still Rages. | |
Posted @ 8:58 PM by dogbomb
The dust hasn't settled yet over America, so I feel it is inappropriate to mention much alse aside from the atrocity. It looks likely that the culprit is bin Laden, as you will probably already know. US Intelligence cheifs have been quoted as saying that they are 90% confident that bin Laden is to be held responsible for this.
Lets just hope they don't fuck up on that 10%, and rule out the real terrorists.
There is no escaping the fact that bin Laden is an evil guy, and just flicking through the news networks you can find biographies of the guy. What I find most disturbing of all is these excerpts from bin Ladens "Terrorist Manual". Whether he is responsible or not, this is the type of material which will make him a target for the upcoming... dare I say it... war.
War is a word which most of the news networks have been trying to shy away from. Yes, it would make great news and makes their lives very simple and easy, but it would also put their easy and simple lives at risk. Many people who don't need to be involved will become involved and that's what no-one needs at this stage.
If you were directly inviolved in some way to the attack on the World Trade Centre, then some reources are available. Some south tower and some north tower details are available and there has been a central checkpoint set up to report someone as safe, or to find out if someone is safe.
This is very messed up, but together we will help each other through this. If you can help in any way, by giving blood or donating money then please do so. Your fellow humans need you!

Should We Laugh? | |
Posted @ 8:10 PM by dogbomb
Can humor be brought out of this sad situation. Already I have heard countless jokes about the whole situation, and many people passing it off with a laugh. Innocent people have died today, and it is being passed of as some kind of joke. The internet is all about expressing yourselves, but already these pictures have been made and are available on the web.

There are some incredible pictures from someone's roof on this website. I cannot even begin to imagine how terrified you must feel to be that close to the "action". This is possibly the biggest news story which any of us will live through.
Come and discuss it with us.

Project Mayhem? | |
Posted @ 4:48 PM by dogbomb
Ok. This is real fucked. As I sit and type this out, there are planes crashing into buildings. Already, both of the World Trade Center twin towers have collapsed after planes smashed into it. The pictures being beamed onto my television are like those of a bad disaster movie.
Those of you who wished that "Fight Club" was real... How do you feel now? This is Project Mayhem.
Part of the Pentagon has also been hit by a hijacked plane, and that has also collapsed. Heads of states are being moved to safe positions, and if this is a terrorist attack from outside of the country, then this could spark World War 3.
Keep up with continuing updates at CNN, BBC News, Ananova and Yahoo! News.
Feel free to hop onto the newly created dogbomb chat to discuss this with other people, or write a message displaying your feelings on the message board.
Also, read some first HAND reports over at superhyperdemonchild.com. Oh My!

Review : Extreme Festival 2001
Posted @ 2:40 PM by dogbomb
Extreme Festival. A predominantly punk/ska festival held at the Brixton Academy in London on August 26th 2001. It was originally planned to be held at the New River Stadium in North London, but their license was denied by the local council forcing them to move to the new venue and to send out a almost unreadable press release via their official website. This meant that the festival was moving from the outdoors to an indoor venue. Festivals are supposed to be all about having fun in the sun, not sweating inside of a big building...
So, the day arrived when Karen and I done the big travel to the newly appointed venue for around 12 midday. The posted time for the doors opening had moved so much that we were very unsure of what time to arrive for. It was originally posted that the doors were opening around 4 PM, but we had had reports from every hour between 12 and 4. The offical website, being the handy source of knowledge that it is, had it down at 1 o'clock PM, so we decided to head for around that time. At around 1 PM the doors still hadn't opened and it began to rain... thank god the venue had moved indoors. Fuck the sun... I don't need this dripping shit!
We sat in a dry doorway, talking to guys who were trying to sell us tickets to the thing we had already paid for, but for twice the price. Then we finally decided around 2/3 PM to stand in the queue and wait in the pouring rain with around 3-400 punkers around the side of the venue, hand out a few leaflets advertising dogbomb.co.uk and generally get wet while waiting. Thank god for the change of venue, at least we don't have to stand in the pouring rain for very long, and we'll be inside in a few minutes...
...after standing for around 2 hours and watching all the spiked hair and mohawks slowly sinking into oblivion and sticking to the sides of punkers' heads, we were finally at the front of the cue. Soaking wet, and feeling like shit and being told to "put those chains inside your pocket" we thankfully passed through security without any glitches and without any forensic searching. The drugs in my ass were still safe.
We waddled our way to the bar to find it relatively empty, and the barperson managed to shock Karen into thinking that a plastic bottle is the greatest invention since the PC... I was standing there convinced that alcohol was the greatest invention EVER, and that it was warming me from the inside out. It wasn't, but alcohol does strange things to your brain.
After getting our drinks we decided to wander into the large venue, and noticed that the place was less than half full and we could easily push towards the front. We had already decided that we would get to the front as early as possible and stay there for the duration, regardless of the band, pain, or general thirst... We are crazy.
We had barely been in the room for 3 minutes, when the first band began.
[spunge] took to the stage in a small fashion and didn't really put on a show. They were they to play their music and play their music they did. To be honest, I hadn't taken much notice of [spunge] before, but they were really catching me with their formulaic music and a finesse at whipping up the crowd. With them being low down on the bill I wasn't expecting too much from them, and I wasn't bothered about seeing them to a certain degree. Now I will be watching for them in the future. They seem like the type of band I would love to see play in a smaller venue, where I can really kick some heads...
A moment of silence. Changeover time and we watched more microphones being pulled onto stage. Extra microphones can only mean one thing... the next band was a Ska band with big horns, the next band had to be...
Voodoo Glow Skulls look like a manic group of fucknuts. The type of people who you would invite to your party just to entertain the entertainers. the type of people who would get bored and set fire to the entertainers just to amuse themselves. They weren't having great fun on stage, but you still felt what they were doing was pretty wild. During "El Co Cooi", possibly their biggest song, the skull-on-a-stick which is supposed to be in flames throughout, was doused before the first chorus. The band didn't dissapoint the crowd, but I felt that they dissapointed themselves.
The Ataris dissapointed everyone. Except for the masses of young girls which had come to see them. Well, really they hadn't come to see them, but they had come to see the nice-enough-to-take-home-to-your-parents singer/guitarist who probably sleeps with about 20 of his 13/14 year old fans every night. He sings heartfelt songs about love and heartbreak... love and heartbreak... and love and fucking heartbreak. He broke his guitar too, and threw it out into the audience... He's so dishy! Cunt.
I need something to take my head out of this cloud of love and unhappiness. I need someone who will play music for the love of music and I need someone on the stage who can make me smile and sing along. Thank god for the...
Vandals. One of the greats in the fun-punk world. I had never seen these guys play live before, but I held big things for them. I own a few Vandals CD's so I was able to grunt along with the rest of the crowd with them. Everyone was on form and they went out there and played as badly as they usually do. They entertained everyone in the stadium and in the finale when guitarist Warren started to throw himself around and threaten to strip whilst making his band stop and start the music. Fucking classic! You had to be there...
311 were a bigger joke than the Vandals though. If you get a guy on stage prancing around on stage wearing gigantic MC Hammer style YELLOW pants and dancing like Carlton from "The Fresh Prince", you know you have a serious problem in front of you. This guy would walk to the DJ Decks, pretend to do something, dance forward like a girl, sing something, dance some more.... ARGH! If I had anything dangerous in my hand at this point it would be thrown stageward. The guitarist looked like he REALLY didn't want to be there either... and neither did most of the crowd.
That was until...
Pitchshifter dropped their backdrop and took to the stage. Their unique brand of "Cyber-Techno-Punk", or whatever the music media feels like calling it this week, was just about to blast out from the speakers. It was obvious that Pitchshifter had done this before, and occasionally the frontman would use the same tired lines he had used many times before. Still, I hadn't come to listen to him preach, I had come to listen to their music. It rocked! It made almost everyone (with the exception of a stupid prick to my left) move in unison. Free CD's were thrown out to the crowd in real rock-star style and I came away singing Pitchshifter tunes. Catchy!
Less Than Jake were the headliners, and as soon as they took to the stage you knew it! They had a big backdrop and giant PEZ dispensers on the frnot of the stage. Their lead singer was dressed like some 80's rock reject, and Mr Skullman was there wiping the floor and doing generally skully things. PEZ were being thrown onto the stage, and a couple of single punk kids were invited onto the stage where they proceeded to make out with amazing ferocity...
Blam!
We got more than Less than Jake had planned, and we loved them for it. The night cumilated in some kind of ticker-tape fire-breathing spectacular, and everyone left on a punkrockbuzz. I was tired now though, and I'd had enough of the people kicking me in the head. I had to leave to dream about the nights events.
Extreme? Not quite... Festival? Fuckin' Yeah!
