No, I don't mind your forwarding this at all. Isn't interesting how =
total strangers -- such as I and your friends to whom you forwarded this =
-- have a strange ability to comfort each other in these troubling =
times? There is nothing positive to come out of September 11, but I am =
struck by the depth of community connections that have been forged and =
the upsurgence of patriotism in my generation (I'm 33), me included, =
which I don't think ever felt patriotism before, even in the Gulf War.

As to going to see Ground Zero, I found it an important step in =
mourning, especially going back to my old office. Sort of like going to =
my grandparents' old apartment (which I still do to this day, and they =
are dead for 20 years). Unfortunately, the site is overrun with tourists =
who are jovially hanging out and snapping pictures. Their behavior is at =
best inappropriate.

Yes, I would like to have lunch one day. As I read the start of your =
mail, I was thinking just that... and then you suggested it at the end. =
I'm obviously all the way downtown. Where do you work?

David I hope you don't mind but I forwarded this to some family and =
friends. We have not been down there. I think it is a holocaust in all =
senses of the word. I had worked closely with 2 lawyers who were at =
Cantor ( I was the librarian at the firm where they were associates) and =
I can't believe they are gone. When the wind is from the South we can =
still occasionally smell the fires (we are on 79th & Third) and whatever =
they are putting in the air at the Fulton St. IRT stop is almost worse =
than the other fumes! Good luck in your new location. Maybe someday we =
can actually "do lunch". Paula
