bought a new notebook yesterday! very happy .. bought a toshiba satellite 3005-s303.
it fits within my budget, and it has almost everything i could want in a notebook. it comes with a pentium 3 850Mhz cpu, 20GB harddisk, a dvd-rom/cdrw (8x speed!) combo drive, a geforce 2 go videocard (so I can play games on the road), 3x usb ports, a firewire port (!!) and it has a generous 14 inch tft screen. i cant wait to get back to my dorm and plug it in the ethernet .. :)

still in hongkong right now. it is very hot and wet here. they even lifted the black rain warning, meaning heavy, and i mean heavy, rainfall. today bought a pair of sneakers .. for only 200 HK$, a pair of blue New Balance sneakers. right now i am watching the soccer game between Ireland and Holland. it is weird to watch Holland play a soccer game, accompanied by chinese commentary that is not biased towards Holland. :-)

AlterNet -- Consumers of the Month: Greenspan Urges Public to Spend More, Save Less

Will you be consumer of the month? Consumerism at its best. In other words: most lavish spender of the month. Isn't this world getting pathetic that we are awarding awards for those who spend and waste the most?

Sony DSC-F707 review: Page 1. Introduction [Digital Photography Review]

Wow, I considered buying the F505V a year ago when I was hunting for a digital camera. After long considerations, I ended up with the Canon Digital Ixus, which I am satisfied about. I am really spoiled with the small and compact size of it. After I bought the digital cam, suddenly a couple of more family members (hi you!) decided to buy a digital cam too. What do you mean 'keeping up with the Joneses'? *wink*.
My cousin Hoyin now has a Sony P-1, my brother Lokhin just got the Nikon Coolpix 995 and Michel has the Canon S20. Anyway, this post was started due to the introduction of the latest Sony digital cam, the successor to the F505, the F707. This looks like a really cool cam .. but ofcourse, nowhere realistically near any considerations of me buying it, since I will need the money to buy a notebook when I am in Taiwan. You didn't think I would be without a computer for one year, right? Uh uh.

Ayn Rand's Philosophy of Objectivism

I just finished reading The Fountainhead from Ayn Rand. A radical book, to say the least, but any book that offers different interpretations of your currently known truths is worth reading. I loved the book and its characters. The book is founded on a whole philosophy by Ayn Rand, which she calls Objectivism. I finished reading The Fountainhead inbetween my train travels during my 10 days trip to Austria, Hungary and Croatia and I literally breezed my way through the 600+ pages. A magnificent book. I recommend The Fountainhead wholeheartedly, and this link provides some more indepth information about the underlying philosophy.

enjoying a cup of coffee in a cybercafe in vienna, austria. just had a lovely dinner with waiyu in a viennese restaurant, ate something called ... - can´t remember - but it was a traditional viennese dish of boiled beef. pretty good, but both waiyu and me agreed the side dishes were actually the best part of the meal: spinach and rösti. (they actually have a separate key on the keyboard for the o umlaut ´ö´).

tomorrow night we take the night train back to utrecht, holland, capping off our little trip to austria, hungary and croatia. (oh yeah, waiyu reminds me we even visited slovenia for a little -very little- moment, but that is another story for another time).

it was a fun 11 days, the most horrible being the day in budapest. me and waiyu didn´t quite know how fast we should get the f*cking hell out of there. what an all-through dissapointing and depressing experience that was. the bright points were the wonderful city of split, where we arrived in the morning, opened up our eyes and were found staring at the dalmatian coast .. i thought i was still dreaming. the other bright points were the city walls of dubrovnik that proved everything i imagined them to be and our little day at the "island of love" (ok - it does sound corny) Lokrum. the sea was thoroughly transparant, and we were swimming between the fishes literally. waiyu more paddling than swimming, because the water was so clear she could see every rock. :-)

ok, we had a great trip and hope you had a nice week too!
