Well, much as I dislike George Bush, I've got to give props to the guy for coming out and publicly stating that the religion of Islam isn't completely about butchering people and hijacking planes. He may just be currying votes, but I doubt it. I also doubt it'll stop idiot rednecks from attacking innocent people of Middle Eastern descent, but at least its a gesture of a sort.

This article in the Guardian sums up most of what I think about the whole WTC mess.

In other news, there's a new "Making Of" video on the Star Wars site. This one deals with those oh-so-tasty visual effects Episode 2 will be full to bursting with.

Well, I posted a goodly long screed, but Blogger ate it. Just another reason to get my ass in gear and get a new site going.

Hopefully by the end of tonight I'll have some new links up, to reflect my new sites of interest.

good links to check out regarding the whole WTC/Pentagon thing....

-An article about the Constitution suffering after the events of today....

-Salon has a boatload of articles about the events, including some good eyewitness testimony from people inside the Towers and in Brooklyn.

Boing Boing has some good links, including one from John Perry Barlow.

What a day.

Looking past the overwhelming tragedy and surreality of the situation, you can see several future scenarios that just don't bode well. For one thing, America is going to bomb the living crap out of whoever they deem to have commited these terrorist acts. I'm not entirely against that, but I wonder if they know who did it, or if someone will get conveniently scapegoated. I'm also worried that civil liberties will get tossed out of the window in the name of security. Doing so invalidates everything America supposedly stands for (and what the terrorists were striking at the heart of), but it wouldn't be the first time. It's a real stretch (in fact, its utter bullshit) to associate a G8 protestor with Arab fundamentalism (or whoever the perpetrators were), but that will happen, mark my words.

Having a certifiable moron like Bush calling the shots chills me to my very bones. And really, you could see this coming. Clinton would bomb you as a distraction from impeachment hearings. You don't want to trifle with that. Bush, on the other hand, is inexperienced and none too bright. He's also isolationist. It figures someone, somewhere would decide to put the pedal to the metal and see what America is made of.

Having said all that, my deepest sympathy goes out to the victims of this mess, and if I was President, I'd be doing everything I could to catch these bastards too. The inherent instability of the whole thing is what gets my guts twisted into a knot.

I just woke up to find that the World Trade Center in New York has been smashed into by two planes. That's pretty surreal.

After diddling with LiveMotion and Illustrator for a while, I've come to one inescapable conclusion; I can't draw worth a lick. Not that I didn't know that already, but having it shoved in my face for the umpteenth time ain't so hot.

Adventure People are bar none the coolest toys ever. Sure, Star Wars rocks the casbah like no other, but I spent most of my childhood with gravy like the Alpha Probe and the Marine Search Team, toys that can't be beat. Lego is the only thing that comes close. That reminds me, anyone feel like buying a doddering, decrepit soon to be 31 year old some nifty Mindstorms? :)

I just watched the Lord of the Rings trailer for the first time in a while. Goddamn, this movie is going to kick some serious ass. And only three months to go until it graces our screens. Mmmmm, hobbit goodness.

George W. "Idiot Pants" Bush. has decided the government doesn't need to prosecute Microsoft. Bravo. First the Kyoto accords, and now this. I think I'm going to move to the Antarctic and start a Linux Militia.
