SUPER CHUNK.

12:14 PM - Someone posted the following to Bulletin Board:

"This is the perplexing balance the last few days have revealed to me. There was and is such an overwhelming sense of despair, but since Tuesday morning, there seems to have been quite a remarkable surge of grace as well. Compassion and generosity and immeasurable goodness like I have never seen. And no, it doesn't do a thing to diminish the losses that have been suffered. And yes, one can question why it takes an event of such magnitude to wring this response from us, and why other injustices we perhaps should not have tolerated have gone forward without it. But in the end, what encourages me is the knowledge that this must have always been in us -- this goodness, this grace, this shared understanding of what matters and what doesn't. Now that we have displayed it to each other in such a conspicuous fashion, perhaps we will more easily remember that we have it. And that is enough to give me hope."

10:40 AM - A while back I finished the quilting on a round robin quilt I've been working on for a long, long time. Here are three pictures.

Here also is a picture of the dinosaur quilt that I made recently for my charming and adorable nephew.

7:02 PM - Suddenly, it is indeed news (really GOOD news) when a plane lands safely in the U.S.

There are no words. Aneesa and Sarrah and Dania, I hope you are OK.

8:33 PM - So I'm online, doing some research for work. I promised all these people that I would provide some lesson plans at the inservice that I'm running on Sept. 26. And I'm poking through someone's index of church-related web sites... and who do I find butFat Pat Langdon, who teaches at my former high school. (His brother, Slim Jim Langdon, also teaches there.)

Amazing how small the world gets.

5:40 PM - Oh, it wasn't just A mouse. It was most likely TWO mice (or possibly the same mouse twice), running around in the breakfast nook like they owned the place. Horrible little creatures. I don't hate them in principle; I just don't wish to share my personal space with them. Mice can't chew metal. Aluminum foil will at least keep them from coming out right there.

I'm very happy about the return of football to my life. I've discovered that I'm in the minority at my office (like, possibly, a minority of ONE. How can that BE??), which is a little less fun than working at a school (where there is ALWAYS a kid who likes football). I don't remember what else, and suddenly I'm hungry.

3:51 PM - Well. Yesterday we discovered that a celery-green Escort ZX2 (identical to one that I very nearly bought in Nashville) was parked in our space behind our building. I called the building manager, who promised in a note last week that he would promptly have any inappropriately parked car towed. Nothing happened. (I am SO ready to not live here. Kind of.) This morning, the car was still there. I left a polite-but-assertive note on the window, asking the owner to move the car and not park there anymore, since we PAY for that spot. When I came home at 3:30, the intruder car was parked politely on the street.

Yay for getting what I want.

Happy birthday, Benno! How are those senior citizens treating you?

10:29 PM - Let me first say that I should be sleeping, because I should go to the gym tomorrow morning. Sigh. On the other hand, tonight I finished the hand-quilting on a Round Robin quilt that I started three YEARS ago, and I am super-pumped about that (though my fingers hurt). Also it was the first day of school, and I realized on the way to work this morning that I am deeply glad not to have to endure that. It's sad in ways not to be teaching, but teaching involved a set of stressors that I don't miss at all.

I am also still having residual knee problems from tromping around at the fair for so long. So there.

5:38 PM - Hey, Crat... If it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one with a bat problem.

9:40 PM - Ohhhhh I'm so tired. We spent at least seven hours at the Fair today (we're not sure when we got there). Great joy. One of the really fun things, oddly, was a video game. I found Dance Dance Revolution (3D Mix or something) to be REALLY hard and REALLY fun. And I am exhausted, and I don't BELIEVE I have to go back to work tomorrow... but I had such a good time. :)

Go on, read the archive. You know you want to.
