"I say, bomb the hell out of them. If there's collateral damage, so be it. They certainly found our civilians to be expendable." -- Senator Zell Miller

Yet Another Reason Not To Trust The Mainstream Media

I got this from Boortz today. cbsnews.com is running this story about the California Supreme Court's decision that gun makers can't be held liable for a gun's use. They talk about the decision and then go on to discuss the weapon at the center of the lawsuit: the TEC-DC9. There is a photo of the gun in someone's hands. The folks at KeepAndBearArms.com have discovered the identity of the person holding the gun: it is none other than gun-grabber extraordinaire Senator Charles Schumer. Go here to see the uncropped photo of Chuckie grinning like a Cheshire Cat whilst spraying a target with bullets. It looks to me like he's having rather a good time playing wit that that gun, doesn't it? It's just ironic that the gun in question should be in the hands of one of the main proponents of taking away your right to own a gun.

Gun Makers Not Liable...

In this story today, the California Supreme Court has ruled that gun makers can't be held liable for crimes committed with their weapons. This is the correct decision since holding a gun maker liable for someone using their products, would be like suing Toyota for a DUI accident. It just doesn't make sense. Of course, most of the gun-grabbers work solely off emotion and not logic, anyway, so that's sort of a moot point.

However, amongst the details in this story is one bit that troubled me (notes in brackets are mine):

In its 5-1 decision Monday, however, the state's top court said Navegar [a gun maker] could not [be] found negligent ``because the Legislature has declared as a matter of public policy that a gun manufacturer may not be held liable.''

Essentially what this says is that the California Supremes didn't find in favor of gun makers because it was the right thing to do, but because California law prevents gun makers from being held liable. While the immediate result is the same, the rationale behind the decision is not one that will have long lasting effects. In other words, this won't put the kibosh on silly lawsuits like this for good.

Why Theocracy Is A Bad Idea: Example #2044

This story today is yet another reason why a religious government is a bad idea. And again, it deals with the Taliban in Afghanistan. This is a list of items that the government has decided are 'anti-Islamic' and are now officially banned. Some of the items that are now contraband include: neckties, movies, musical instruments and computer discs. This latest ruling comes, once again, from the 'Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.' Read this story and think about what the people under this regime are enduring.

No Tax On Satellites

I told you a few days ago about the Los Angeles Tax Assessor wanting to tax the satellites (in space) of Hughes Electronics. The courts have just ruled that he can't do it. This is good news. Here's the story.
