Dedicated to the many toys and gadgets that I played with in my childhood. I hope you find something here that brings back memories! This site also is a means to showcase the full-size arcade cabinet I built. As I find these treasures, I'll post more information, links, emulators, etc about them. Check back often!
What's with the retrocactus name? Well, I like cacti and when I needed a name to put on the marquee of my arcade cabinet I thought retrocactus sounded pretty cool since Retrocade had just came out. So there you go!

Am I the only excited about this? I found another link with slightly more information and a picture!
Personally, I can't wait for something like this...it's going to be around $20-30. Now if I can only find a list of the games to be included in the 10-in-1!
I've also heard rumblings about a classic b-sides cartridge for the Gameboy Advance....I'd like an A-sides pack too! Check it out here.

So much for my flurry of updates ;)
I stumbled across this item while browsing the coming soon section at Electronics Boutique...sounds very cool and not unlike the TV Boy found only in Japan....I can only assume it's a bunch of classic Activision titles from the 2600 (which ones?)....haven't found anything else on the net about it....if you know something, let me know!

SpaceWar! celebrates it's 40th birthday this summer...since it was one of the first (if not THE first) computer game, I thought it would be appropriate to mention here. There are a few articles about it floating around various news/tech sites. Want to try it yourself? Follow this link to actually play a JAVA applet version of the original game from over 40 pages of typed in source code!

Hey...no more banners! Woohoo!
I decided I was sick of the popups/unders and upgraded my service to get rid of them. I'm finally able to dedicate some time to this site so expect some big improvements soon!

Slashdot linked to this article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the TRS-80 Model 100 'laptop'....I have one of these and it still works...I'm going to look into doing some things mentioned in the article like hooking it up to my pc to download data...very cool.
On a similar note, this past weekend while visiting a small flea market I stumbled across a TRS-80 Micro Color Computer (MC-10), still in the box with all the cables and even some software. I asked the guy how much he wanted for it and he said $0.25! He obviously didn't know about Ebay! I took it home and was happy to find that it did indeed still work...woohoo! I just need to hook up the audio cables to my cassette player (or my PC) and try loading some software into it.
I also found a few cartridges for the Atari Lynx I have and since I never had any carts before, I wasn't sure if the Lynx I have even worked....well, I plugged in MsPacman and surprise! It worked...what a great not so little handheld system! I also picked up Hard Drivin' and Gauntlet for it.
I'll be updating a few pages this weekend with new pics.

Thinking of building your own arcade cabinet? Don't have the extra cash to put a complete computer inside? Well, pickup a Sega Dreamcast and use MAME for the Dreamcast! They are super cheap right now ($125CDN for a new one at Walmart - even cheaper used). There are currently two developers working on MAME for the DC, MAMED! and MAME DC. I've tried MAMED! and it does work although it's still early....it's not terribly fast but lots of games work (with sound!) and it's only going to get better. Read more about this at DC Emulation - there are lots of other cool emulators you can get for the DC here as well....not to mention the DC itself has some kick ass arcade quality games...it is after all, made by Sega (or at least it used to be).

Very strange...since the weekend, this site has been unaccessible to me and seemingly anyone else in my neck of the woods (BC, Canada)....seems there was some kind of DNS problem as people outside my area could view the site no problem. Weird. Oh well, everything seems to be back again.
Picked up the Pacman collection for the Gameboy Advance on the weekend....even better than the Namco collection as it includes even better emulated versions of the original Pacman, Pacmania, PacAttack (Tetris done Pacman style) and Pacman Arrangement (dumb name but cool game - a funkified version of the original with crazy new graphics and music). Pick it up!

This is pretty cool....my newest favorite game, Chu Chu Rocket, from Sega for the Gameboy Advance (also for the Dreamcast) is available to play via a shockwave game...it's in Japanese but hopefully you can figure out how to play...basically get the mouse into the blue circles (rockets) while avoiding the cats (kapu kapu's)....it has some english so give it a try....it's a pretty acurate version of the gameboy advance cart.

The new forum system seems to be working okay right now...signup and post a message already ;)
The links on the right have been removed in favor of adding some arcade/videogame themed news...doesn't have a lot of coverage but it may get better. The links will return in a day or two as a separate page linked from the left side menu. As much as I'd like to, I don't plan on linking to other people's projects...there are much better places for that and it's too maintenance-intensive for me right now....I will however try to post links to useful, related sites that I've actually used/ordered from/etc and include a summary of that experience if relevant.
If you have a gameboy advance (or a Dreamcast), you should pick up Chu Chu Rocket - incredibly addicting! Much more fun than Tetris.

I recently setup a new forum system using a free host....I didn't promote it yet as I've been monitoring the uptime of that host...well that host seems to be flaky (you get what you pay for) as the forums don't appear to be up at this moment....in the meantime, please use the Arcade Controls message board if you have any questions related to cabinets building, etc.
