Oh boy, WAY too long since the last post. A lot has happened since then, with Lilly and with my career. Mostly is has been the changes in my career that have caused the delay. But enough about me, let's talk about Lilly.
Lilly of Frog is, as of this writing, just about 19 months old. She is running everywhere, unless she is climbing, and even then she's doing it as fast as she can. Her vocabulary is increasing almost daily. Now, in addition to "mummy", "daddy", and "cup", Lilly can say "boo" (when she wants a nutch), "boo" (when we're playing peek-a-boo"), "cookie", "appo" (apple), "uh-huh", "uh-uh", "no", "mine", and probably several others that I forgot. Regardless of what she can, or can not, say, she is a veritable chatter-bot now too. Often she will be scampering about the house or office (Danielle's) chattering away, stopping now and again to see if anyone is listening, and continuing on.
We've also discovered that Lilly likes to help. If we try to take her hand to guide her somewhere or keep her close in a store, she doesn't like it. But, if we hold out our hand and say "Show me where Mummy/Daddy is", she will take the proffered hand and guide us along, not caring that we are actually steering her in the direction that we want her to go.
Our dear daughter has also discovered how to open doors. Regular, big, doors. Y'know, the kind that oh, keep her in the house, or on the main floor instead of going into the basement, or the bathroom instead of trying to go downstairs. The fridge door too. Now, when she wants an appo or gurtie (apple or yoghurt), she can go to the fridge, open the door and grab a gurtie, or open the drawer and grab an apple, and the close everything back up.
Of course, life is not all fun and games. The past few months have been quite trying as she has begun working on her two-year molars, and the damned things are taking their sweet time about it too. Poor kid doesn't understand why her teeth/head hurt(s), and we really can't do too much about it. Oh sure, we could drug her, but that only works for so long, and we don't want to risk her health but using medication for too long. So, we just try to keep her mind off of how she's feeling. Sometimes it works. Other times, well, it doesn't.
The time change didn't help either. All those for abolishing the stupid Daylight Savings Time switch raise your hands......I thought so. Maybe we should write a letter. Not only is the change twice a year dangerous (studies show that accidents increase the Monday after the weekend where you lose an hour of sleep), but it really screws with those who do not understand what's going on (i.e.: little kids and cats. Took the cats almost a month to get adjusted). Just imagine not having to wander around your house twice each year, looking for every little things that might have a clock in it. The T.V., the VCR, the microwave, the stove, the car radio, the car clock (yes, some vehicles have two clocks in them, grand, eh?), your watch, your SO's watch, the wall clock, the alarm clock. Got 'em all? What about the thermostat? Yeah, the electronic one you installed last fall to help cut heating costs. It's got a clock too. But I digress.
Danielle said I should mention some of the cute things that Lilly does, but I don't have a list unfortunately. One things Danielle mentioned was Lilly "reading" the video store magazine. We went to Blockbuster one day and came away with one of their store flyers listing new and upcoming releases. Well, Lilly was fussing in the back seat, so Danielle gave her the flyer. Damned if the kid didn't take it, open it, hold it up in front of her face while she was looking at the pictures and trying to figure out all the scribbling on the pages. Then, she moved her hands together, used her left digits to grasp the right page and moved on to the next page, just like a pro. Well, you should have seen the look on our faces. What a little smarty.
Oh, and she is. She puzzles things through. She wants to know how things work. She figured out the eject button on the CD-ROM drive on the computer one day. I received a call at work from Danielle saying, "Listen to this." WAARH. WOORH. WA-WO-WA-WORH "Lilly, don't push the button so fast." The little gaffer had sat her butt down in front of the computers (both of which are currently sitting on the floor, so they must be there for her to play with, right?) and pushed the button. Of course, this experiment later led to he finding the power switch a day or two later while Danielle was playing one of her new solitaire games. Not cool.
Some of you may be wanting to see some new pictures. Well, we have lots, but I haven't had the time or the energy to get them posted. I'm not satisfied with the current process for posting the pictures, so I have been looking for another method. In the meantime, check out this link to some of the pictures we have on Shutterfly. (If you have a digital camera, this is a *great* place to order prints from. Danielle likes the site, and that's saying a lot as she doesn't have time to waste trying to figure out a new software interface. She actually enjoys sitting on the computer, futzing with the photos on Shutterfly. Then, we create and order and send them off to family and friends. Pretty inexpensive too!
Well, that's all for now. I will try to update a little more frequently, but it'll be tough for a little bit. We'll just have to see I guess.
Bye for now!
