Business as usual?

The staff at CDNOW has assembled this good set of helpful links for victims and survivors of Tuesday’s attacks. Organizations like the Red Cross will continue to need support as the tragedy fades from the headlines, and you can contribute online via Amazon.com or PayPal.com.

Wall Street will open for trading shortly and airline stocks are certain to be hit hard, perhaps losing half their value. Ultimately, airlines and their passengers will wind up paying for new hi-tech gear to thwart hijackers and suicide planes, which you can read about here.

Speaking of hi-tech, it seems that some hacker groups have decided to take matters into their own hands. Some Internet vigilantes are calling for (and have already begun) assaults on perceived terrorist sites, while others plead for calm. Read about all that in this CNET News.com article.

Meanwhile on this date in history, the first modern 33-1/3 RPM “microgroove” vinyl record was demonstrated by the RCA Victor Company on Sept. 17, 1931 (while the world was mired in the Great Depression).

Yesterday’s sets

Well I hope everyone enjoyed yesterday’s Blank & Jones - In Da Mix 0801 exclusive set here, as a chance to escape momentarily the horrible images that continue to come across TV screens. In case you missed it, there will be a rebroadcast of this B&J mix on Thursday September 20 at 3PM DI Time (US Eastern), 21:00 Central Europe. And please check the official Blank & Jones Guestbook Page for a statement.

I hope everyone also enjoyed DJ Ganja’s shortened live set, which only consisted of his starting “Progressive Hour.” Playlist here. It now appears that the IRC.Mimic Trojan caused the problems that ended his set early. This is a malicious mIRC script causing infected computers to participate in Distributed Denial of Service attacks. As you can see, even Chat and IM are vulnerable now to these sorts of things.

Our thoughts and condolences continue to be with those affected by the tragedies in New York and Washington, even as we try to get back to normal with our lives.

“Trance against war !”

Such was the subject line of an email I received today from the Blank & Jones crew, who were likewise dismayed by the unbelievable and shocking scenes from New York.

As previously reported, there will be a live set today by DJ Ganja beginning around 2PM US East / 20:00 Central Europe. DJ Ganja says it will be “a trip through to various genres of Trance music... Music is the key – my attempt to bring people together.” The lead-in track immediately prior to this live set will also be a super special surprise, so be sure to be listening for it.

And Blank & Jones are of like mind too. So today we will also feature a Special Broadcast Premiere of Blank & Jones - In Da Mix 0801 DI Exclusive recorded set, prior to its “official” broadcast on DI Radio and B&J's Web site next week. This will start today around 12:30PM US East / 18:30 Central Europe. Be sure to adjust all times for your local time zone accordingly.

Material things, no matter how large, can be destroyed... but no one can take away the dreams...

A moment of silence, instead of a title...

Amateur photographer Carmen Taylor of Fort Smith, Arkansas happened to be sightseeing in New York Harbor yesterday with her son's digital camera. She captured these two incredible pictures of the terrorist attack by the second airliner on the World Trade Center. The first photo shows the United Airlines plane at an angle just before impact, while the second photo shows the explosion just after that aircraft pierced the side of the South Tower.

Now, my mother has a friend who was at work that day at AON Corp. on the 105 floor of this South Tower. Fortunately they had already begun evacuating by stairs, and had reached the 58th floor at the time their building was hit by the plane shown in the pictures. Somehow my mother’s friend was able to continue down the stairs to the ground level and then run away like mad, in the 44 minutes that remained before this building collapsed. Quite an incredible story.

As for DI Radio, thankfully none of our New York crew members live or work in the immediate vicinity of the World Trade Center. Our music servers are all physically okay too at this point. However the 206.98.167.99 machine is presently out of service (there is no power, and no way to refuel the backup generators). This means the Trance Firewall stream is down as well as the low-bitrate Eurodance streams. If you normally listen to DI Trance 128K on 206.98.167.99:8000, please choose another one of our Trance 128K servers.

In the belief that Trance music is a truly global uniting force, DJ Ganja and I are planning a live set tomorrow, Thursday, beginning around the usual 2PM DI Time (US Eastern), 20:00 in Central Europe. Tune in then on DI Trance if you get the chance.

We have a Washington DC police scanner on DI servers withPenguinRadio.com, tune in here
It's the DC Police Riot, Bomb and Special Operation's Channels. They are chasing suspicious packages all over town.

And also on the Trance channel for now you will hear CNN news report from TV once in a while.

Breaking News - Terrosist attacks in US - v2 Update

Update: Twin Towers are no more - the second tower went down as well. There was some time for evacuation, maybe 40 minutes or so, but it may be many people from these buildings didn't make it. At this point I don't know anything for sure so I might quite wrong. Someone mentioned in two towers together about 40 000 people worked, or more?

Message Forum thread for this: click here

I will make this quick, I am myself in midtown New York City. Seems this morning first plane went into one of the World Trade Center buildings. Followed was the second plane went into the second tower. Within half an hour one building totally collapsed, all 100+ floors. Also report of a third plane hijacked, and a fire around the Pentagon (could be this 3rd plane). I guess you would find more news and clips/pics everywhere like cnn.com now.

At this point things have been developing every 5 minutes here so nobody knows what else will happen. But I think for the most part the terrible damage and lives lost is just too much as it is. Meanwhile probably Iraq is celebrating, and there might be less illusionary bullshit about 'peace' processes and whatever else you want to imagine that goes along with the topic of terrosim these days. (This was a rough unedited post, maybe more on this tomorrow, maybe not).
