What's going on at Digitally Imported             Contact Us

Donations for DI Radio - so far $2845 (06/23 6:40pm)
We plan to add some new exciting services (updated 06/13) to DI, but since we practically make no profit now, we need to raise around $4000 to buy new hardware to realize these new ideas. This is not an emergency, but we will be glad if you can support us by even a dollar. Any contributions, by PayPal or C2it or AOL QuickCash (send to djari@digitallyimported.com) only, are very welcome . DI can do it, thanks to your support!!

This week's releases:

Sarah McLachlan – Remixed (CD / LP, Nettwerk, Canada): Everyone’s favorite singer / songwriter remixed to dance floor frenzy by some of the biggest names in the business, like Tiësto, Hybrid and BT. Tracklisting here with Liquid Audio samples. Note that this is NOT a mixed compilation.

Dark Driver – Re-Vision 2 (12" vinyl, Choo Choo, UK): Entranced likes the Original mix, seriously Deep Trance with a syncopated bassline and some crashy “Brian McArdle - Carbon Kick” hi-hat effects. On the flipside Mara (“Desantize” etc.) rework it in a more Bedrock-like direction while still holding the BPMs down at 130.

Egoist – Firedance (12" vinyl, Massive, Germany): Thanks to Satellite Records’ floor staff for handing me this one on Saturday. A harder side Germanic Trancer that mixes in haunting Native American chants and sweet pan flutes. Quite out of the ordinary and like the label name, it’s Massive!

JBN – All I Want (CD single, Manifesto, UK): After seemingly endless vinyl promos, the finals of this gorgeous vocal Trance track are (finally) out. CD features the music video, the Fragma radio mix, the white-hot Angelic mix and the proggy Mark O’Tool remix. My only gripe is that the big room styled Mr. Bishi mix isn’t on it also.

Temporary playlist pages

Temporary playlist pages can be found here for Trance and here for Eurodance. It will be a few days at least for me to come up with something more permanent as I am switching to PHP.

Some webpage features down

Our scripting functionality is busted, mainly it's on and oof. This has been our problem for a while, just that it rarely comes up. This time it came up big time. I am in process of throwing the same functionality in PHP. But the bad side the forums will have to wait. Now I just want to get the playlists working. Sorry, maybe this is for the better.

Daniel Soto monthly mixes on DI Radio!

We are happy to tell you that with the help of our good friends and partners at Trance.nu, we will start featuring monthly mix sets by Daniel Soto! He is a resident DJ @ Godskitchen, and also a producer. You can check out his website at www.danielsoto.com.

The first set will be aired this afternoon on the Trance channel, and of course will be part of the playlist for a while. I think you will like his style, it is a bit different in a good way than the usual stuff you find here. Thanks again to Daniel and thanks to Trance.nu, the number one Trance portal on the web!

Don't call them Napster!

The current issue of Fortune, the popular financial journal best known for “Fortune 500” companies, has a short, interesting online music article (believe it or not). They interviewed execs at 6 alternative song-swapping networks as to why they'll have more staying power than Napster. Some of the answers are funny, like WinMX's: “I don't believe our good Members of Parliament have enough disrespect for our constitutional rights to pass a Canadian equivalent of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!”

But at least in the US the RIAA does have a tactic. They've already sent tens of thousands of letters to ISPs, universities, etc. naming peer-to-peer users posting copyrighted works “which may be illegal.” That's often enough to get ISPs to threaten cancellation, as their account agreements usually prohibit illegal usage. (Even though the law is unclear on exactly what's legal and what isn't, and if illegal, what ISPs *have* to do about it; see here for a good discussion if interested.)

And in the future it may not be easy to just move song-swapping services offshore to countries with more favorable laws. Read today's CNET article on the Hague Convention. Nations that sign on to this treaty could have to enforce another's laws when the Internet is involved. That could force the Digital Millennium Copyright Act on Canada after all... but could also apply China's free-speech restrictions on Web surfers in the US. Hmm.

Today's Tidbits:

Twilo stuff on eBay – With the NYC club's closure dragging out certain items are now up on the online auction block. If you have $$ you've still got about a day to bid on the main floor sound system by Phazon, as well as Junior Vasquez's DJ booth. Offers on Twilo's awning close Sunday. Better hurry though if you want to best the current US$610 for the original summons that shut Twilo down. (Issued by the NYC Buildings Dept. at 2AM on a Sunday... you try finding a Buildings Inspector at a time like that when the heat's off in your apartment!)

In Bed for Madonna competition – What would you do for tickets to a sold-out Madonna show? Spend a night in bed with the sex columnist for the German online magazine Thema1?? Ah but the catch was that it would all be written up in a report this coming weekend. Well 135 Madonna fans from 12 countries applied and the chosen winner was Aaron T. of Frankfurt, who provided “one night of good and satisfying sex” last night before tomorrow's show in Berlin. (Check the link for that report, hehe, scroll down for English :)

Which brings us to the QUOTE OF THE WEEK from a Madonna spokesperson to Radio Undercover Music News on all this: “I didn't know reporters were so hard up for sex that they had to give away their Madonna tickets.” More like so hard up for a story, geez!

Okay hardware freaks, we need to buy a 1U or 2U rack moutable case here, with at LEAST a 460W power supply. The case Must be certified for Tyan Thunder K7 mobo but I am having a hard time finding a place so far that sells these (well, there's this, but we need the chasis and a company that actually replies, hehe). If you know a place with something like this, please email me so we can start putting donations to use :) Thnx!

Just out now...

Gary D. Presents – D.Techno 4 (2xCD, DJs Present/PIAS, Germany): “Hard, Harder, Hardest, D.Techno!!!!!” Yes it’s a board-Hard compilation of 20+ full-length tracks and a special turntable mix by Gary D. himself. Click this link for more info and samples (unfortunately that tracklist is not complete and is too long to post here).

Murphy Brown vs. Nu-NRG – Progressive Tranzproduktionen Teil 1 (12" vinyl, Zeitsprung, Germany): Don’t let the title fool you! This is the follow-up to Murphy Brown - Loose My Mind featured on TTF 17. Four mixes here of high-flying, hard-banging, epic-styled peak-time play material not to be missed.

Wendy Phillips – Stay (12" vinyl/CD single, Blanco y Negro, Spain): A must-have for the great full on vocal mix by Airscape (Johan Gielen and Sven Maes). Also features a New York Hard House style version by Mike Rizzo that’s worth checking out.

Vanni G. – Hevenu Shalom (12" vinyl, Do It Yourself, Italy): Definite pick for Opera Trance freaks with soaring vocals and rolling piano keys over dreamy synths. If you digged Emma Shapplin – Spente Le Stelle this new top-notch production is for you.

DI Logo Contest Winner!

And the winner of our long DI Logo contest that was held last month is Adam Nielsen from Denmark! Adam gets to pick 3 CDs of his choice as promised to the winner. Thanks very much to all the people that participated and put their time into it. Without you all we wouldn't get this accomplished.

I know you all want to see the logo, but it is still being finalized in a few ways and getting prepared, for "stuff." When we are ready you will see it. And not only the logo, but DI Merchandise too! Congrats again to Adam!
