Well, I haven't posted in a while, but I haven't had much to proclaim to the people. But, today --yes, today--I have a good one for ya.

Last night I had a dream that was weirder than anything I've had in a good while. David and I were sleeping in sleeping bags on the quad of James Madison University. Our sleeping bags were laid right up against the bluestone tiles that are laid out in front of the the Admin building. All of a sudden it started to rain, slowly at first. And all these people started walking past us and they were all dressed up. Everyone was heading in the same direction in the rain. It took me a few minutes before I realized that it was Homecoming weekend and there was some weird Homecoming Ball that was going to take place on the football field on the other side of campus. Everyone was going but Dave and me. I asked him if we could go to the ball, but he said we had to keep camping.

So, we're lying in the rain in sleeping bags and I've got an umbrella that I'm trying to use to stay dry. No good. Anne Gomez and Jennifer Greer show up and they're dressed like some kind of weird Jennifer Lopez twins. Dave and I looked at each other like we had just discovered we were on Mars. The girls urged us to come with them to the ball, but again with the camping from Dave.

At this point we got a little fussy (Dave hates rain) and decided to head in to my new apartment (???). So we balled up our gear and headed to one of the buildings that line the Quad. Apparently, I had just recently moved from the Big House to an apartment on campus.

We arrived at the apartment just in time to welcome my family who decided to surprise me. I was soaking wet and trying to hide Dave's toothbrush. I gave up on that quickly when Mom started asking for a tour of the apartment. It was pretty small: one bedroom (possibly two) with a small family room connected to the kitchen area. I actually had a kitchen table with a bay window, though. So that's not so bad.

While I was showing the place (which I knew was more expensive than my room in the Big House) to my mom, I actually stopped at one point and asked her "What am I paying for this place, anyway."

She said, "Don't worry about it. Just be thankful you live near your classes."

It's not clear if I was going to school or teaching school. Anyhow, I then realized it was my birthday and everyone had brought me presents. Mom had a cake and I don't remember it looking too appetizing.

My brother-in-law, Matt, was there and he wanted to give me my present immediatly. He had wrapped it all up nice and I was quite impressed. He was very excited about it; he thought he'd gotten me the best gift ever given in history. So I quickly tore the paper off to discover a Betty Crocker coupon book and a Betty Crocker Dessert cookbook, like one of those you get in the checkout line at the grocery store. I reacted as though I'd been asking for this for years. Matt was grinning from ear to ear.

The whole time this is going on, I was feeling a terrible anxiety. I wanted to go to the ball, but I had to entertain my family. Camping was a bust. My place wasn't prepared for showing to family. It was my birthday. I was soaking wet and paying well more than twice what I pay now for rent. So creepy.

Just as we were getting ready to cut the weird cake, the alarm went off.

I now have a new facet to my blog: sleep talking. I have recently become the queen of the Sleeping Conversation. For me, it usually takes place between 11:30pm and 2am. Usually I have only just drifted into sleep and David has not yet gone to bed, so he's sitting up watching TV with me. For now, I have two immediate examples to relay.

Example #1:

Me: Is this for us?

Dave: Huh? (he doesn't want to wake me up because he wants to see where I'm going with this.)

Me: Those of us with the scrambled egg faces. Do we get to eat this?

And then it was over as quickly as it began.

Example #2:

Me: (I gave David a peck on the cheek and said to him:) That's my good Rock School Teacher.

Dave: Huh?

This woke me up, to which I replied laughing:

Me: I have no idea.

That is all.

Oh joy! Oh rapture!! Wait until you hear:

My landlord, Pi, has 45 cats. Really, she does. Fifteen inside and about 25+ in the yard. Everyday she feeds them around 7 pm by pouring bags of cat food into bowls housed in four small kitty-shelters that she has scattered about her yard.

So, anyway, last night I dreamt that one of the kitties--one that I call Blinky due to an eye problem early on that left the poor kitty with a lazy eye--had many babies. The kitty was sitting in my driveway giving birth while the White Octave was unloading their band gear from the band van parked there.

Stephe came in and got me to tell me about the babies so I went out to see what was what. When I arrived, there were at least three babies, perhaps more. Just lying there by their mother mewing very quietly. They all looked to be about 4 weeks old, though. Tiny but with hair, open eyes and everything.

So I grabbed one of the kitties--an orange tabby , I think. I brought it inside and laid it on my bed. I was so happy to have a kitty.

While the kitty was sitting there, I started doing something else. It might even have been sleeping that I was doing. All I could think about was what I would do if the kitty had to go to the bathroom, so I got up and ran around the house searching for a box into which I could put some newspapers. I was going to take my kitty everywhere with me.

I was so happy to finally have a kitty to play with. I would keep my doors shut to my part of the house so that Biggie wouldn't have allergy problems. Yay, kitties!!

And then, sadly, the alarm went off.
