"I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? How long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall"
- U2, Sunday Bloody Sunday

"Once again, we are hungry for a lynching
That's a strange mistake to make
You should turn the other cheek
Living in a glass house"
- Radiohead, Life in a Glasshouse

From last night`s SmackDown!, here are the tributes that I felt were the most moving and powerful: Chris Jericho, Ivory, Chris Kanyon, Kurt Angle, Hugh Morrus, Lita, and Lance Storm. You can view all of them here. The entire show will be rerun on Saturday night in the Excess timeslot.

Last night was Ben Folds` show at the TLA and this morning was his Sonic Session. Both were amazing shows, the Sonic Session was truly magical. It was exactly what I needed, something to take my mind off the world`s current tragedy and just relax for a short time. The concert last night was excellent, most of the set with his new full band was dedicated to the new album (which I`m listening to as I type this). Song For the Dumped just isn`t the same without Darren & Robert, plus there`s a blazing guitar solo now! Ben got out his keyboard-guitar and they played a new, punky, weird song called Make Me Mommy. Then Rockin` the Suburbs was amazing. Ben came back for the encore and played solo, just him and his piano for: Best Imitation of Myself, Philosophy (possibly the best song of the night), One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces, and The Luckiest. Oh, and it was his birthday too, and the crowd sang happy birthday to him. This morning`s Sonic Session was even more special, he played my friend Liz`s request for Video and my request for Philosophy! I got to meet him afterwards, get an autograph and a picture, and thanked him for performing and helping us get our minds out of the sadness for a little while.

A note from R.E.M. about the recent world events.

U2, Peace on Earth

Heaven on Earth
We need it now
I'm sick of all of this
Hanging around

Sick of sorrow
I'm sick of the pain
I'm sick of hearing
Again and again
That there's gonna be
Peace on Earth

Where I grew up
There weren't many trees
Where there was we'd tear them down
And use them on our enemies

They say that what you mock
Will surely overtake you
And you become a monster
So the monster will not break you

And it's already gone too far
Who said that if you go in hard
You won't get hurt

Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth

Tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth

No whos or whys
No one cries like a mother cries
For peace on Earth

She never got to say goodbye
To see the color in his eyes
Now he's in the dirt
Peace on Earth

They're reading names out
Over the radio
All the folks the rest of us
Won't get to know

Sean and Julia
Gareth, Ann, and Breda
Their lives are bigger than
Any big idea

Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth

To tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth

Jesus in this song you wrote
The words are sticking in my throat
Peace on Earth

Hear it every Christmas time
But hope and history won't rhyme
So what's it worth

This peace on Earth
Peace on Earth
Peace on Earth
Peace on Earth

Whatever-Dude.com meets Kevin Smith.

Some quick Raw thoughts:
- Undertaker uses an STF and is superkicked by good ole Steven Richards? Interesting way to start off the show, although there are rumors online about where this is going and it`s not as fun. I thought KanerTaker would be defending those belts against X-Factor, from last week`s shows.
- Big Show and Tajiri as a tag-team? What about the ShowGunns??
- Paul Heyman had some of his best one-liners all night, especially about Christian`s name.
- The truck skit went wayyy too long. Debra was awful, Austin sort of redeemed her fawning over the minutia of the truck but it was too late. The rest of the Angle/Austin stuff was pretty unnerving yet compelling. Kurt turning Austin`s words back on him was well-done, but the rest of his actions were a bit too heelish.
- Was that a face pop for Hurricane Helms (who has lost his last name)? There was a definate "Hurricane" chant going at one point.
- Christian`s turn against Edge was easily the most memorable moment of the night. Christian`s blank expression earlier in the night was creepy, but when he wouldn`t let go of that chair, you knew it was coming. And it was sad, the end of an era. I may have to change the graphics on this page. The one-man Con-chair-to was clever and scary.
- The main event was solid but way short. All four of those guys deserved much more time.

Incredibly long and in-depth interview with Peter Buck up on Murmurs.com. I definately recommend checking it out.

SmackDown! thoughts:
- Steve Austin was mesmerizing all night, with his taunting and bullying of Kurt from afar. The "what?"s were even more freaky and unnerving delivered the way he did. What is it with the WWF and throwing stuff off that bridge in Detroit?
- RVD & Rhyno vs. Jericho & Rock was a very good match, fast-paced. How lightning-quick is the Rock when he`s in the ring?
- Torrie Wilson with Tajiri? O..K...we`ll see where that goes.
- At first I didn`t like Hurricane Helms` over-the-top superhero gimmick, but then I remembered this is the same guy who used to be part of a wrestling boy band.
- Good to see Mike Awesome again, I liked his promo on Kurt in the locker room.

Also, make sure to check out the incredibly comprehensive WWFTitleHistory.com. Thanks to it, I now have the Intercontinental Belt as my Windows background.

Justice League animated series trailer..wow!

After you`ve seen Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, you can`t write a review of it on the internet. You just can`t! So all I`ll say is go see it. Now. Especially if you`ve enjoyed any of Kevin Smith`s previous films. And then you`ll know why you can`t review it online.

I don`t think I`ve Blogged anything about The Autumn Defense yet. It`s Wilco bassist John Stirratt`s side project and the three songs they have streaming on the website are pretty dang good. I`m thinking about getting the album.

Some thoughts on a highly memorable RAW:
- Isn`t "mocking your opponents via midgets" a heel tactic? Oh well. Lance Storm: Midget Kicker!
- Hurricane Helms` laundry list of old Green Lantern villians was impressive. I never thought I`d hear Sinestro being discussed on Raw.
- I'm impressed Jericho worked last night, considering he recieved a concussion at SummerSlam.
- Shawn Stasiak is funny, who`da thunk it? The multiple takes of his Austin tribute was great.
- Rock/Storm was a nice little match, it could`ve gone a bit longer though.
- Christian cutting a heel promo, eh? As long as he can be a heel *without* joining the Alliance, a la X-Factor.
- DDP vs. Sara? Ick. Get Sara off the TV.
- The Austin Appreciation ceremony was one of the funniest and most memorable Raw moments in a while. "Wind Beneath Our Ring"? Steph`s horrible singing with even worse solos from Chavo, Raven, Justin Credible, Terri, and Tommy Dreamer? The entire Alliance swaying together with Tazz and Paul E. arm-in-arm smiling? Follow the bouncing Austin head? Bwahaha!
- And then it got even wackier...Kurt Angle in the milk truck, with the milk hose, parodying Austin`s classic beer truck attack on Vince was unbelievable. As J.R. said, "Milkamania has run wild on RAW!" Hillarious!

Big Poppa Pump is temporarily filling in for Mikey Welch?

More bad news for Wilco, apparently Jay Bennett has quit the band to go solo. Bennett was sort of the Mike Mills of the band, and his keyboards were definately a key to the sound of SummerTeeth and the band in general. The only two original members left are Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt. Yankee Foxtrot Hotel could make or break the future of Wilco. I did get my ticket to see them at the Electric Factory next month. And I`m definately curious to hear what Jay Bennett`s solo music will sound like.

Artwork for the upcoming TMBG album Mink Car..very cool. I definately want this t-shirt!

The new Garbage single, Androgyny, is out and it`s awesome. Reminds me of both Missy Elliot and Blur, and you can`t say that about too many songs nowadays.

As expected, Al directing Ben equals a great, funny video.

SummerSlam, what?, predictions:
First off, I`ll be missing this PPV due to a friend`s birthday, but I may get to see it on tape..anyway, quick predictions:
- WWF Title:Stone Cold vs. Kurt Angle - As unbelievably as Kurt has been lately, Austin has to drop the belt to either HHH or The Rock, considering they both should be going after him.
- WCW Title:Booker T vs. The Rock - Booker keeps his belt, they need to keep adding to his credibility.
- WWF & WCW Tag Titles:KanerTaker vs. Who Betta Than DDP & Kanyon? - Taker and DDP need to have a one-on-one match to end it once and for all. Could Kanyon have THREE belts at once? Lance Storm did that once, ya know.
- WWF IC Title:Lance Storm vs. Edge - Yes, this Lance Storm right here. Edge wins and the era of Awesomeness continues. Christian and he don`t break up fully until after the Invasion finally ends.
- WWF Light Heavyweight & WCW Cruiserweight Titles:X-Pac vs. Tajiri - Tajiri is the MAN! He does some unifying.
- WWF Hardcore Title:Jeff Hardy vs. RVD - Didn`t we see this last month? This time it`s considered a ladder match (although ladders were used last time). Oh well, it`ll be the scariest match of the night at any rate.
- Chris Jericho vs. Rhyno - Last month, there was only one title match on the PPV. This month, there are only two non-title matches. This is one of them. Y2J finally pins the Man-Beast.
- Dudleyz & Test vs. APA & Spike Dudley - Test gets the pin on one of the APA ("Damn!") to get further revenge for his beatdown.

"Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals. I had a young and optimistic point of view." - Green Day, The Grouch

Instant Raw thoughts!
- That opening Austin speech went on a bit long, but was definately compelling. I can`t believe I never realized Hugh Morris = humorous! But what about Tazz? Will he retaliate? Is he out of the Alliance?
- Tajiri uses TWO kinds of mist! Yes!
- Brief but audible "Meat" chant at Stasiak when they showed that close-up of his face. He did face Angle in Kurt`s first PPV match, ya know.
- Two 20 minute promos in one show is a bit much. However, Jericho asked the billion-dollar question that everyone wants to know!! By the time Rock and Booker got into it, it was just way too long.
- Poor Green Lantern. As a GL fan, I was disappointed in the disrespect shown to Hal Jordan (and Kyle Rayner!) tonight by everyone. Plus, I always thought that was an Omega tatoo, from Helms` days as part of the Hardys` Omega wrestling organization, not the GL logo.
- The finish to Angle/RVD was really confusing, with Jeff getting that pinfall outta nowhere. Does this mean we get a rematch of Jeff/RVD on Sunday?
- OK main event. Someone tell Paul E. that the Spinarooni isn`t a move, per say, but more of a taunt. The return of the Book End! Ha!
- Oh yeah, shouldn`t there have been an Ivory/Jackie match by now?

Well, it was last night....Radiohead in NYC. You can read the setlist here. They played songs from almost every part of their career (nothing Pablo Honey or earlier though). Three encores!! And when they came out for that third encore, the crowd went nuts. I`ve never heard a crowd pop like that. They opened with The National Anthem and didn`t look back. Karma Police was the first real sing-along of the night. Thom, Ed, and Colin were jumping around the stage, rocking their guitars, during Permanent Daylight. Climbing Up the Walls was as creepy as ever. Radiohead have the BEST light show in rock and roll, every song had its own flawless lighting to go with it. Packt Like Sardines is much louder and powerful live, with the guitar riff cranked way up. Fake Plastic Trees was beautiful. I Might Be Wrong is a manic dance song when played live, Phil gives it a dance beat and Thom (and many folks in the crowd) danced their brains out. Paranoid Android & Idioteque back-to-back was the highlight of the night. Two of my favorite songs, the energy was unbelievable. The first encore kept getting better and better. There was a camera on Thom`s piano, right in his face, and during You and Whose Army? he totally played to the crowd: making faces in the camera, turing around and looking at the crowd, I`ve never seen him act like that before. You can really tell how happy those guys are on this tour. The first encore ended with How to Disappear Completely, the song I wanted to hear the most and it was like a hymn, just incredibly powerful and lovely. The second encore of Talk Show Host and a gorgeous Street Spirit blew everyone away, and as I mentioned before, that third encore (of Exit Music)...WOW! The crowd was off the hook. One of the best concerts I`ve eeeever been to.

We missed the very beginning of the Beta Band`s opening set, but I liked them. DJ Kid Koala spun for a little while too and was impressive. He got some cheap pops from the crowd, dropping in bits of Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors and Fitter Happier into his set.

Before the concert, my friends and I walked around NYC for a bit and went to Times Square. We decided to eat at....WWF New York! It wasn`t as cool as I expected, there wasn`t really any memoribilia on the walls, just a ton of TVs showing different stuff (i.e. this week`s Raw on some screens and clips of a Christmas `99 era Raw on other ones). The food was good but overpriced. I didn`t get to look around the gift shop as much as I wanted to, but they had a lot of very cool stuff. Overall, a highly successful trip.

"We hope that you choke. That you choke." - Radiohead, Exit Music (For a Film)

Until tonight, I hadn`t listened to Radiohead`s OK Computer in months..maybe since Kid A came out? I reminded myself why I love that album, why I listened to it constantly in the summer of `97, all the emotional connections I have with it. Such an outstanding album. And I`m less than 24 hrs away from seeing them in NYC!

Raw thoughts:
- A little too much on the comedy end of things. You could tell the "Booker T tries to act" were going to be corny. Jericho vs. Steph is always great, but it went on a little too long. And my friends and I all expected the apes to be E&C.
- X-Pac is regressing. We`re no longer dealin` wit the X-Factor. Instead, we better get ready to bow to the masters. At least he no longer has 2 belts. Tajiri, woohoo!
- What was the point of Debra attacking Austin last week, if she worked with him tonight to get him riled up at Matt & Lita?
- Jericho & Angle vs. the Dudleys was a great match. How did Angle *bounce* off D-Von`s knees like that? Ouch!
- Nice Storm/Christian match, which should lead to Edge/Storm at the PPV.

Happy birthday Bill Berry!

Last night, I got to attend Raw live and in person. It was a great show, maybe not as fun as the Smackdown!/Heat taping we went to in the spring, but that did have Jeff Hardy defeating HHH for the IC belt. But last night, we saw the triumphant return of Chaz in a dark match. We saw one of my favorites, Essa Rios, in a Jakked/Metal match. Hopefully one of my signs makes it on those shows. I had X-FACTOR FEAR MAGNETO and WELL IT'S THE SHOW GUNNS!. I know we weren`t on Raw. It`s a shame we barely got a few minutes of Jericho, his promo lasted longer than that squash match on Tazz. RVD/Tajiri was awesome live. We got Matt Hardy & Lita, but no Jeff. The Angle/Booker T had the whole crowd into it by the end. When I watched Storm & Kanyon vs. E&C on tape today, I realized that match was a lot longer and better than I remembered. We got treated to a promo from Kidman ripping on his sorta-hometown (he`s from Allentown) to try to get us to boo him/cheer X-Pac, but no such luck. X-Pac = best heel heat ever! I knew Rock was gonna attack Vince and Shane, but just to hear that mammoth pop when he returned live and in person was really something else. After the show went off, Chris Kanyon (who betta?!) & Lance Storm attacked the Rock, but he gave them a pair of Rock Bottoms. Then Shane got back up, and engaged in at least 5-10 minutes of verbal sparring with the Rock, complete with cheap Philly sports references. It was hillarious, and of course ended with more signature Rock moves (and an ugly corporate elbow from Vince on Shane too!). Oh, and I bought this too.

One week till Radiohead in NYC!

Many many Raw thoughts:
- It would`ve been nice if Lance Storm had won the IC belt by getting some actual offense in. Albert was looking very impressive kicking his arse, then it`s run-in central and the pinfall outta nowhere. But I like Storm and having another top-level belt over in ECWCW is intriguing.
- Team ECK reunite! Yes! And as faces. Kurt was great all night, it`s amazing how quickly he`s become an uber-face. He got Farrooq to say "Damn!" But still, Kurt just didn`t have luck with those tables tonight.
- Originally DDP wasn`t a pervert and he had his "Make me famous!" motive. Now he is a pervert? Eh?
- Y2J/Kanyon was probably my favorite match of the night. Just an all-around solid straight-up wrestling match. And Jericho`s surprise interaction with the fans was a nice touch.
- Vince needs to stop using wrestlers` catchphrases. However, his promo seems to clinch The Rock`s return being next week at the Raw that I shall be at in Philly. I just want to be there when the crowd pops like crazy. The roof`s gonna blow off the FU Center!
- The Big Ass Show are the next comedy duo! Yes!
- Everything`s better on a pole! As fun and silly as those matches are, with the ECWCW guys around, there are sooo many folks that are being squeezed off TV, can`t they put that time to better use? Kane didn`t even get a match tonight!

I have obtained a copy of the new Cake album, Comfort Eagle. After one listen, I can definate recommend it, but it`s no Fashion Nugget. Highlights are the title track, Long Line of Cars, and of course Short Skirt/Long Jacket (Is it about Trish Stratus?).

Screen captures from the Knives Out video. Quite...interesting.
