Zeldman. Ah. Zeldman. A link from Zeldman. Now understand, I've had a few emails with this fine fella (I'm certainly not part of that group of bloggers who seem to know everyone) and I think his philosophy is certainly straight up. Heck, I once sent him a nice letter about how he shouldn't let his internet fame hurt him.

What does he go and do? He links to my website in the middle of my inner pogrom of ideas. So, I'm going to get some nice hits from some nice viewers like you, but you're going to see nothing here. I somehow feel like a bad host.

Can I suggest something? Put a bookmark to this page, and come back in a month. I promise, I'll take a shower between now and then.

Why do I feel like Michael Jordan just visited my house and I answered the door in my bath robe?

(Please note, while *my* page validates nicely to strict XHTML 1.0... and in my opinion even looks rather pretty if you view source... geocities musses up the validation with their "extra" code. In the future I'll have my own domain name and get rid of this malignant tumor.)

In thinking about what the newest version my website would be, I thought about all the previous interactions with people and their ideas. Someone once said to me, Everyone has their own opinion and it seems like no one ever changes despite all this pointless arguing. So why bother to argue?

Apart from being an incorrect observation (personally, I have changed many of my issue positions over the years, more than others often think), the statement assumes that the only purpose for conversation is conversion. Conversation, is much more important than mere conversion. I would hope that, in fact, conversion, when it does happen, happens on a deeper level than conversation can offer.

Issues, be they political, religious, philosophical, even whimsical, are part and parcel to who we are, how we define our world, and how we define ourselves. Conversation is an opportunity to know eachother better. Of what real import is the Laker's score last night? Why not talk about something that matters?

Real relationships aren't built on hanging out together but on a sincere interest in and commitment to other people.

Maybe I haven't said it enough, but my friendships are not solely based on entertainment value. I actually care about my friends. My friends are all genuine, worthy people who I respect for their diverse gifts.

It just so happens that one of my gifts is the gift of gab. :-) And that's why I made this website.
