I have a great story. Listen:
One of my sister's friends from Dunstable had this great idea- to make a video of people playing whiffle ball in random places. His name for the movie? "Whiffle Ball in the Mall." We had a preliminary game on Saturday Night in Quincy market, which was fun. People would walk right through our game and we'd just go "game off! game on!" nobody stopped us that time. so last night we went for the best- the Pheasant Lane Mall. My sister's boyfriend worked there so he couldn't play, but he was a lookout (you'll see why...) we were all wearing red ana blue shirts tied inside out and we met in the parking lot and entered through the Filene's employee door. we waited there for a few minutes while this kid checked the area we were to play, and then it was play ball... we had a stereo playing punk rock real loud... that Stroke 9 song from Jay & Silent Bob. "HOW MANY PEOPLE WANT TO KICK SOME ASS... I DO! I DO!" we had a huge crowd, on both the lower and upper levels of teh mall. it was very cool. i got a single off and old man... and then my sis's boyfriend came walking towards us and signalling that it was time to get the hell out. Mall seurity and the Nashua Police thought it was time for us to go too. My sister said "everybody, let's go" and we all took off towards the employee entrance again, with the crowd that had gathered applauding. i grabbed the stereo cause no one else was and ran as fast as i could. i then noticed that i was running BEHIND the security gaurd, and in order to make an escape out the employee entrance, i would have ahd to go past him... so i ran through Filenes instead with this other kid. Out in the parking lot security told us to go away. so we did... minus a few people who had to be picked up. before we left, however, security had a fewe choice words: "here's your bat back." that's the end of the actual game. EPILOGUE MUCH? Evidently security got in trouble for NOT escorting us back to the security post and tkaig our pictures banning us from the mall. Also, whenever security chases somebody, they have to do it in pairs. they were also sup[posed to escort or chase us out of the parking lot of the mall. WHIFFLE BALL IN THE MALL! YEEAAAA BOYEEE!!! wow, Tim, that's intense. I can't believe I'm only just now hearing about this, but still.
I have no idea what to say, but I felt a need to react.
shit so here's what happened to me. between west and central campus of cornell university, there's this gigantic hill. part of it's so steep you can't even walk up it. well, i guess you could if you tried, but it's wicked hard, i mean the slope's gotta be 35 degrees.
so i decide to bomb the hill on my mtb. i mean it's not that hard, it's a steep hill but i've hit steeper. the thing with this hill though was that near the bottom of the slope, there's a paved walkway. i figured it was just flat so it wouldn't be too much of an obstacle. i guess i was wrong, cause i came to in a hospital. i didn't know where i was or why i was there, and everything seemed dreamlike. in fact all my memory for the next few days seemed like a dream. i still don't remember what happened, cause the accident didn't just knock me out or give me a concussion, it smacked me with retrograde amnesia too, where i lose memory of events surrounding the crash. it wasn't until over a week after the accident that i found out what happened. brian, my friend and an eyewitness, was walking down the hill when it happened. he heard "OH SHIT" and turned his head to see me fly down the hill and hit the pavement, launching me 10 or 15 feet in the air he says. i guess i did half a frontflip and landed on my face, ripping up dirt for a couple feet while my body was still in the air, as my bike bounced another 10 feet ahead of me. i dunno who called 911, but brian says that when he got over to me, i was totally unconscious. i slowly gained the ability to move my fingers, and he says i flipped him off. when the EMTs got there, i kept asking where i was, even after they answered. they cut off my shirt, and when they tried to put on the neck brace, i spazzed the hell out demanding to know the fuck they were doing to me. at the hospital i got ct scans and xrays. they also gave me food for lunch and dinner, but i'd ripped up a good portion of my nose and mouth, makin it hard to eat very much. i didn't stay overnight, but stayin the night back at the dorms wasn't exactly easy. i was told by my friends when i regained sanity that i was very very confused. example: at 9:30, i was wandering down the hall in my underwear with the phone to figure out how to call the RCA for early bed. my mom drove down to cornell from toronto (where my family was on vacation at the time) the next day to see me. we went to the doctor's, then we went back to toronto, where my family could care for me as i healed. like i said, for some reason all my memory for the first several days after the accident seemed like a dream. it was hard to tell what was real or not. i slept 24/7, waking up only to eat. that week, a weird thing happened, my leg muscles grew stiffer and stiffer each day. by the end of the week, i could barely walk. that weekend, i needed a goddamn wheelchair just to get around. so that's the story of my injury and the aftereffects. eventually my head got better from rest, my face healed, and my legs got back to normal from taking prescribed muscle relaxants, so i'm all better now. so the moral of the story? GET BETTER AT BIKING. July 26, 2001
Another day doing nothing... i'm so useless. I need my own personal drill sergeant to yell at me and tell me to get a move on. That's the only way i'll ever get anything done.
I think being a drill sergeant would be a great job. you get paid to abuse people! "You shit-brained scumbag! Go run eight miles! And then do fifty push-ups, you stupid pansy!" how could that not be a great job? Unless, of course, you're too good at it (ie Full MEtal Jacket) but hey, i wouldn't call that a common occurence. I've never seen Apocalypse Now. I should, though... it's a Kubrick film, right? or did he jsut do Full Metal Jacket? FMJ was a good movie. i watched it one night w/ at corey's... we started it really late and had no idea at what time it ended, so i kept calling my parents and saying it was almost over. Ah yes, another meaningful anecdote. I ahve to assemble picnic tables tommorow so that bitter, middle-aged people can use them and my momm & dad get a cut in their condo fees. my 'rents have a business in the Blanchard house (that pink house at the end of South Shaker Rd. if you know the area) andso I'm puttin together these two picnic tables for them tom. i have to wake up at 8. I just wonder.. why so early? if i don't get them assembled by noon, is there something wrong with that? is there some curse so that they melt when touched by rays of the noonday sun? or do i just bitch too much? you decide...
