So retail therapy turned out to be a bust. Nothing at the store I absolutely needed. Didn't want to spend that kind of money on some of the things they had (am I getting cheap in my mid-to-late 20's?). So I'll hang on to this thing until there's something I just have to have and go "hey, I've got someone else's money for that!"

Got my mix all done for trade, and popped it in the mail yesterday evening. The little scale at the post office (which was actually working!) said it would only be $.77 to mail it, but I stuck $1.19 to be on the safe side. When I sent a mix in the same small cassette mailer last week, it cost me $.99. Either way it should be covered.

Spent the rest of last evening playing phone tag and clicking over to receive various long distance calls. This is how it works. Nobody calls me for a very long time. Then one day, ring ring, and I'm on the phone all nite. That's what my evening was, everyone wanted to call and talk to me. I like that part.

Retail Therapy

That's how a good friend phrased it. Venturing out to a store and purchasing your blues away. I love it!

I could participate in retail therapy. There's still the matter of that $100 gift certificate.

retail therapy

So relaxing, and walking thru the mall counts as exercise . . . right?

I'm working on that mix that I'm trading. So far it's actually going. I tried to do it yesterday sorta with the hubby, but it just wasn't working. I've never really made a mix with anyone else, and we hadn't discussed musical goals or anything like that. For example there's a B-52's song that I started the tape with. He said to add "Rock Lobster" next to pick up the pace. "It's not going to be a B-52's mix though." "Oh" he says. "What about Smash Mouth? Barenaked Ladies?" No no no. At this point I realise that parts of this tape have to reach back and challenge me in a different way, bringing together stuff I never had before instead of the more standard dance mixes I'd done. Don't get me wrong, I like my dance mixes, I do a good job with them. It was just time for me to put a lot more out there and experiment with what I really have in my CD collection.

It's Tuesday. Just came back to work today, and I've been working pretty diligently on stuff. Had our softball game yesterday, and let me tell you we kicked their arses! Double header meant double the beating. That's right, it was a sweep of two different teams. Each time we've sent them home with their tails between their legs. I'm part of an awesome team. Then today I get a book to review. My very first one. This feeling rushes over me.

Excitement!

Panic!

Horror!

It's due by August 30, so i have plenty of time. I'm just a review virgin. Lots of people thankfully to help me. Hopefully I'll do well. Hopefully it will come out alright and they'll send me another one to look at. Hopefully I won't choke, have to pack up and go someplace else. We'll see.

So I'm still at work. At least now there's an hour and a half left. Progress right? I've not done a whole lot of work, but that's because not too many people are coming to us. I have poked around on the artofthemix web site more because I'm kind of getting into this whole idea of swapping mixed tapes. That also means that I have to clean up our CD disaster in the house so that I can figure out what we truly have and what is MIA. There are still boxes in the basement from the move in February that may contain CDs, but I have the feeling some things will just have to be replaced. Now I'm starting to get hungry. Guess it's time for a break. Let's see if I can take one.

today's firework

So I posted all the mixes I've been doing to artofthemix.org. If I had been smart I would have scanned the covers to them and put them up as well, but I wasn't thinking and was in a hurry to get them out to everyone. This afternoon, I get an email from a nice person who wants to know if I want to trade a mix!

How f-ing cool is that?

flattery rocks

I must admit I'm kind of surprised because there are so many way better mixes out there, but like I tried to tell myself before, they were the right mixes at the time, and a selfless act is usually a good one. So now I'm gonna trade a mix with someone. I'm pleased as punch. I should send out more emails like this person did and see if others want to trade. People make some amazing tapes, and since I got the new Walkman, I need some tapes. Nothing like appretiating other people's artistry.

So today is finally my Friday. Work goes from 12-5, and then I'm free. Thinking about going to see Scary Movie because I can use a good laugh, and can't even remember what the last movie I saw in the theatre was. I think that would be a good way for me to start my weekend. Now I just need the hands on the clock to move a little bit faster. . .

So today is supposed to be Friday. But you know what? It feels like Thursday to me. Why is that, you ask? Because I have to work tomorrow. That's right, I get to drag in on a Saturday afternoon and be bored out of my mind no doubt. At least I have Sunday and Monday off which means I shouldn't be complaining. These six day work weeks make you crazy though. At least I caught back up on my sleep. I went to bed around 9PM last night, and awoke this morning at 6:40AM. Whoa. Guess those two late nites kicked my butt. I remember going upstairs to lie down because I was bored watching tv, and next thing I knew I woke up unsure of what day it was and if the clock was AM or PM.

today's firework

Got the shock of my life when I checked the mail yesterday. A birthday card from an ex-boyfriend who is now a good friend appears in my mailbox. It has a the greatest cover, a Hallmark original, and when I open it up there's a gift certificate to one of my favorite clothing stores. I look at it and think "cool, a $10 gift certificate."

Then the extra zero registers.

A $100 gift certificate!

Is he insane?

I about hit the floor when I read it. My roommate is like wtf? I explain that I just got this huge gift certificate. He's impressed. I take it as an opportunity to razz him about only spending $7 on me for my birthday. He's halfway amused.

So here I am staring at a major gift. Makes me feel real special.

Tuesday evening I got a new Walkman. It's pretty cool, despite the fact that it doesn't have auto-reverse. That's okay, I can flip over a tape, it's just that it has this sleeve thing that goes over it so i'd have to take the entire thing off and flip the tape. I know, so much agony, expending energy to flip over a tape when you're walking. I figured I'd spend the extra $10 on something else, since that was the price difference between this one without auto-reserve and the one that has it. It does have digital tuning, and this funky tv tuner feature that is important to those who can't bear to miss their soap operas or talk shows (neither of which is me). I suppose listening to basic tv stations is an interesting idea. So now I have my portable music device to listen to when walking. Hooray. (I really wanted the Sports Discman but I just can't spend that kind of money right now, plus then I'd need a CD burner to make my own mixes.) Now I just need some tapes. Guess I'll have to do some mixing for myself. I've done mixes for my friends, but I haven't mixed anything for me in a very long time. When looking at my mixes on artofthemix.org, every single one is a mix made for someone else. I sent one off Monday to my new friend Cat'Astrophe', and gave one to my other friend here in town Sunday. Doing a good mix of course is important, but the added bonus is decorating the cassette cover. I got into doing this while in college and having access to an affordable color copier. I did some pretty inventive stuff with it. I'm getting back into doing mixes with original covers again. A healthy somewhat creative hobby to keep me out of trouble I suppose.

Last nite I had a softball game. It was pretty good, even though we lost because we didn't have the appropriate gender balance, and in playing the game we still lost. I however had a good game. It was the first time all season I've gone up to bat. So I'm currently 1-2. I can live with that. Means I made it to base at least once. I was impressed that I actually hit the ball. No going down swinging. Too cool. Who can argue with that? Even better, I was darn good behind the plate. Catching balls, throwing them all the way back to the pitcher. That upper body stuff I've been doing must have done something for me.

So I had my physical activity for the day. Cool. What will I do for today? I have no clue. None whatsoever. I need to do laundry, so that might be as physical as I get. I should have brought stuff with me and gone to one of the local buildings to work out over lunch. I didn't though, so I'll have to do something else, like eat lunch. I really should eat breakfast, I'm hungry.

Dragged myself into work today. It was hard leaving the bed, kind of like that Nike commercial where the woman gets up to go running but her bed and blankets are trying to seduce her into laying back down. I like it when she stands up and the bed says in a bad french accent "come on! You had a salad last night!" Too funny. It does feel good to be back at work, even though I have so much that I need to do and the motivation is coming in slowly. I did get an invite to attend the closing dinner of a program that I worked with this summer. Too cool. That's such a positive thing, and somehow I'll get it into my yearly evaluation. This is the kind of thing that the higher ups will see as a positive. Funny thing is, I see it as more than just a free meal. Scary.
