Inexcusable....deplorable...and the man isn't even sorry for what he said. A Member of Parliament from my neck of the woods - one Tom Wappel - was approached by an 81-year-old constituent about difficulties he was having with collecting his veterans' pension. The constituent asked for the MP's help. Mr. Wappel replied by sending the 81-year-old man a bitchy, snarfy, petty, childish letter wondering *why* he would be asking the MP for help, when he didn't deem fit to vote for him in the election? My first reaction to this story was, naturally, shock. I was shocked that an elected member of parliament would dare speak to a constituent the way this one did. But I was equally shocked that the MP would intimate that he knew how the man voted. We vote by secret ballot, do we not? In case I'm missing something, this MP has made up a story and used it as an excuse not to do his job, and left the onus on a poor disabled 81 year old man to prove that he is *worthy* of the MP's services. What's even more of a piss-off, is that Mr. Wappel isn't the least bit sorry for what he said in the letter. Interviewed today, Wappel once again said that it was up to his constituent to contact him, and only then would he help him. This is a man who should not be in public office. He's not only a liar, he's an idiot.

Oh for crying out loud.... A study has been presented to the American Psychiatric Association which claims that gays can "go straight" if they just try a little harder.Rumour has it that a majority of the participants were referred by so-called "ex-gay ministries", and other religious groups. We know how those good folks like to "convert" their fellow man. The Psychiatric Association has refrained from commenting for the time being. Seems the delegates to their convention in New Orleans were laughing too hard to get any words out.

Had a chance to sit down and watch Billy Elliot with my mom, brother, niece and nephew last night. They hadn't seen it before. I had the good fortune to catch it at the movie theatre during the winter. Well, they loved it, as I did - all over again. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you rent it.

Awww c'mon. When you turn your back on Mother's Day, that's just wrong. This is yet another example where I say include everyone in the celebration - your two dads, your two moms, your one dad, your one mom, your aunt, your granny, whomever. Same as Christmas/Hanukkah/Eid/Kwanzaa: Call it what it is, and celebrate it. What's the next step: Abolishing Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day and establishing "National Primary Caregivers' Day"????
