hi :]
damn.. havent written in here in a LONG time. I guess all of my time has been occupied by jess, work, friends, jess, school, jess. Just to summarize... I went to China in early June and saw the usual. It was really amazing. I was impressed by how rapidly the country is industrializing. I'd say in less than 50 years (in my lifetime) the country will be more advanced in infrastructure and at least on par with technology with any other "western" country. Although the command economy/government might place things such as the environment secondary in importance. (but it costs money to be environmentally sound.. and industrialization would take longer). I had a nice little balance of seeing the sights and doing my own thing.
The day after I came back from China, I went to Los Angeles for about 5 weeks to be near Jess and work at Relaxtation, a boba place. It was fun and I've had my fill of boba for the rest of my life. (right now i'm sitting here sipping on iced water.. even with all the boba i can eat/drink)
Then in mid July I came back to Berkeley to teach YEP I at Haas (room F320!)... I had my 43 little knuckleheads and we taught them how to write business plans and give presentations in 2 weeks. Pretty amazing.. considering these 14-year old students came from local schools and were mostly from disadvantaged backgrounds.
After my foray into teaching, I came back to Los Angeles... I've been watching Jess's house and dogs and her sister's bird. They were in Italy for about 9 days. The food supposedly was horrible. (:P) And.. her mom and sister just came back yesterday. I've also been covering her hours at Pasadena Relaxtation. I'm here with Emika, who is talking to her friend. I'm just waiting for the boba to finish cooking so I can wash my balls. (boba balls heh). This has been an interesting time.
Oh, and I'm moving into a new apartment.. own room ! Phew. No more roomate to corrupt. hehe.
Jess is coming home tonight. I miss her. I almost forgot what her company feels like. And no, she doesn't have to kill any girls in LA when she gets home. Love you Jess.

this is jess. right now as i'm writing this, lester is trying to give me the 'delta wing'...for details on that you'll have to ask the ham himself. so..he told me to introduce myself. not quite sure what to say...i've never really written in these journal things so it's sort of hard for me to just spill. we're going to LA this weekend...hopefully...although flying standby isn't so easy when it's easter weekend and everyone else is trying to get home, too. ("would you like some sausage?"~tom green) lester's computer is acting strange right now so imma post.
this is jess again. it's about..oh..two weeks later. i'm STILL trying to figure this blogger thing out. some of us can't all be rocket scientists like freaking lester...incidentally, lester NEVER does any work, i swear. sigh. let's hear it for upper div middle eastern history. =/ so, i'll fill ya'll in on lester's life here. hm...he's still playing ball...only now i play with him just to keep him humble. (note to bob...teach the guy some post D, will ya?) and just to make an official announcement...i beat lester at horse TWICE...once at oshman's in LA and then once again in the gym. :) we've basically figured out that we are the equivalent of biscuits and gravy...that is...we go together like them. :) although, i'm sure we'd rather eat it than resemble it. lester and i are the human garbage disposals...although sometimes he outeats me in the junk food area (but to balance it out, the guy eats a full plate of salad at EVERY meal! hm...questioning orientation) side note...lester has the world's greatest friends. i mean, i'm madly in love with P...ray is hilarious, ben joins me in bashing on lester, and bob is...taken. goddam. all the good ones ARE taken. hahaha. just kidding, boo. well, i REALLY should do my paper now...pacs 151...there is no way that this should be a class. sorry for those of you who may be (unfortunate enough to be) pacs majors. IT SUCKS ASS. i don't want people to sit in a class and tell me 101 reasons why the government is bad. btw...i'm going to join the CIA. :) talk to you guys later.

let's hear it for...basketball, the song "kiss kiss", pho, passion fruit boba, triangles, and being in love.

keeping a public journal is getting tough. Too many people that know about this little thing are people that I mention.. or have some personal stake in what I write about. It feels like I have to be careful with what I write.. tip-toeing around the events in my life that are really important, not the trite things you've been reading here the past month. Maybe when my life is clear again, I can keep a journal that reflects the meat of my life. For now, take what I write in context. Interpret what you read here according to what you know about me personally, and you'll know whats going on. :)

this is a dream from a nap I took tonight.
my family and I are driving back from Los Angeles. My sister is in the drivers seat. My mother
has shotgun, father sitting in the back behind my sister. I'm behind the drivers seat.
Strangely, I'm the one driving. We're on a freeway. I'm reaching around the seat steering. I can't control how
fast we're going. I'm looking between the front seats to guide. Then either my mother or my
sister gets in the way of my view. I start swerving.. crossing lanes. I'm screaming for my
sister to get out of the way. She moves, but then I realize that my mom is in the way.
Finally she moves and I can see again. But I'm still crossing lanes.. uncontrollably. Then
I realize that I'm driving from the rear. And I decide to get off at the next exit, 5/8 mile,
after this upcoming bridge. We get on this bridge and I'm still out of control. Suddenly I switch lanes right,
a maroon prelude cuts in front of us and loses control. He hits all cars, we slam into the back of a white car.
I'm screaming my head off. My sister and my father still silent. My mother trying to comfort me, saying
that my father had said that it wasn't my fault. At this point, my father was somehow in the drivers seat, mother
next to me in the back. I ask my father if he's going to say that he was driving. He nods yes. We all step out
of the car. My father stays at the scene. The three of us get back in the car. My mother is now driving, sister
is in the passenger seat. I'm still behind driver. At the peak of the bridge, my mother opens the door and leaps
out with a scream. My sister stares blankly and says nothing.. I scream at her to
control the steering wheel. Finally after a few seconds she grabs it. I yell at her to stop. She doesnt' stop until
we get to the end of the bridge. Even then she's too slow to stop. The car lurches to a halt, and I leap out. I
take off running back towards the center of the bridge where my mom jumped out. My gut feeling was that my mother
jumped off the bridge to commit suicide. I'm sprinting as hard as I can, but I'm hampered by my shoes. My dress
shoes. The ones that I always go out in. I get the feeling that my sister is behind me, but isn't running as hard.
I keep running, until I get to the end of the bridge again. The accident is cleared now. And I'm alone.
*Everyone was in the drivers seat at one point in the dream, except me.
*I'm the only one communicating in the dream besides the instance where my mother spoke to comfort me. And I was
screaming.
*My father communicated non-verbally to me, with a simple nod.
*My sister seemed dispassionate like my father, but seemed to take less responsibility than him.
*I'm wearing my most uncomfortable shoes. They dont let me run as fast as I can.
*It seemed like the accident was completely my fault. But looking again.. even though I was out of control,
the prelude had cut me off and lost control.
Sometimes I do have anxieties over my increasing responsibility in the family. Coming from a family with
parents who are first generation immigrants, my sister and I have had to sometimes act as cultural translators.
Since we grew up in America, we understand the smaller quirks of the country that they cannot. So we're
trusted with interpreting things for our family.
Another interesting thing is that my father does not really communicate with me directly. He always routes
his words through my mother.
And one of my main anxieties is over the emotional burden that my mother carries. She takes all the crap in
the family. She's the one who mediates things and takes the blame when anything goes wrong. I sometimes see
her breakdown, and I know she feels helpless when dealing with her own family. It worries me how much crap from
us that she can absorb and not go insane. Granted, I think our family life is pretty good.. but to always look
to her when things go wrong is unfair. And I know she feels the pain, even though she's not good at expressing it.
And my mother called my cell last night while I was at The Limelight.. dancing the night away in the shoes from my
dream.
A couple of months ago she told me that she had a dream:
She somehow hurt her shoulder. Then I came along and she thought I would help her. Instead, I just grabbed her
shoulder and wouldn't let go. Making the pain unbearable... She woke up crying.
So.. what to do?
After this dream, I called my mom. She was in the middle of her Mah-Jong game. She called last night just to
say hi and see how I was doing. So I made arrangements to eat lunch with her on Tuesday and I ended the call with
an "I love you mom" :)

Hi.
I hada really great conversation tonight. It really feels like I haven't been able to engage in one, face to face in a long time. This whole life of being online... this journal.. aim.. icq.. gets kind of old and frustrating sometimes.
Today I played some ball.. got my daily exercise in. Now I need to gear up and study like a madman for Friday's midterm.
I am starting to get tired.. i think my sleeping time is going from a max of 8am down to 5am... weak sauce! oh well.
Imma gonna cut out now. hee. =]
