Welp, we did it all. Filled out the paperwork, waited for the funding, signed the forms, stopped the show and insisted the deed be filled out as our lawyer instructed, paid the downpayment.. all with the flu. We finally got the keys to the new house. Picked out the paint, hired the painter, stroked his ego. Realized he was crazy about a week later, and he still hasn't returned my house key. A friend and I are still trying to get the red overspray off the ceiling, and I am painting the trim up to five and a half foot all around the rooms... well, cuz that's how high I can reach. Fired the tile guy after he ripped out our kitchen counters and sink. I said, "If Tile Boy gives me any shit, he is going to get all my rage against contractors." He wanted to charge me for picking up the supplies. He wanted to renegotiate our contract before he even started... It was pathetic. He said the Lord told him to get my money up front even though I paid for all the supplies. I told him the Lord told me to get my money back, or to call the law. He wrote me a check right away and I got my money back. These guys were both from a Christian Remodeling Network. What a marketing concept, huh?
The morning the furniture movers were coming, a burgular bashed and bashed and bashed the storm window in our dining room until it broke. That was such a racket, all of the neighbors were outside watching this crackhead. The lady next door was taking picures, flash and all. The burgular came crawling out of my window a minute later with my stereo. Six cars of cops were there to meet him. High drama as soon as the dykes move in.... You know!
Despite it all, I am thrilled to be a home owner. The floors are perfect, the red on the walls just right, and when we get the tile set in the kitchen and a little more paint smeared around.... yeah, it will definitely be the nicest house Chris and I have ever lived in. The rooms are spacious, and the backyard decks and plantings whisper the good life. I see parties on the patio and dinner with friends in the dining room. It's very gay, the whole house, fagged out from baseboards to mouldings. Two gay men lived there in the 80's. They died of AIDS. The longest survivor used the life insurance money of his partner to finish remodeling the house before he died. That is sad and sweet, but it makes me feel at home to know they were family. I am living in someone's final project.
By Spring, I figger I should be able to find my stuff again.

Man, it so fucking stressful, buying a house. I decorate in my head, and just so that I won't be devastated, I try in the same thought to convince myself that the mortgage might not go through. It's hard to be laid back and not care this deeply. It's almost like having a love affair.
Chris seems to be adding this to her long list of ways to grow up. I am proud of my baby, and there is no one else I would rather be doing this with.

I had been looking for our love shack for months. Finally took Miz Chris with me, and... let's put it this way... Chris don't window shop. So we bought a house last weekend. Now we are just doing all of that stuff like contacting contractors to paint, hiring inspectors to scare us to death and things like that.
I can't seem to think of anything else except the house. Can't wait to move in.

Uhg, today is a total 404 kinda Friday. Gray and bleary out, and it's been this way for weeks.

My birthday was the shit. I hooked up with my Butch buds Tex and ET at Buddies for a coupla brews. Then we drove back to my casa to pick up our grrlz. Since Texas and Lousianna and basically all southern states are as one to folks from Washington, I thought the plan was we were going to take my out-of-town guests to eat mud bugs fro dinner. I put my key in the lock, opened the back door, and then squeeled like a biiiiotch! There were like 20 people, hollering "SURPRISE!" Hehe. I do not like surprises, really, and usually I wouldn't like being put in the place where I am required to be jolly ... but... I was feeling downright jolly, actually. Everyone from work was there... Tim with his new lover Thom. David from San Antonio who I hadn't seen in months. Even Suzi flew in from California. There was a full bar, and my sweet wife had tons of food catered. My Mom sent flowers. Great presents. Everyone got a little buzzed and the party went on fairly late. It was all good, and the house was full of friends all weekend.

Then Saturday night, we all went to see Tina Turner. What courage to know you are that talented and to know that kind of talent needs to be shared! There was a heckler sitting behind us. I thought about bouncing this loud and obnoxious person down the stairs, but she finally announced how bored she was "listening to Tina Turner steal everyone else's songs", and she finally left. What kind of idiot pays good money to heckle someone like Tina Turner in a huge arena? Ah well, the concert was incredible anyways.

Halloween was purdy kewl, too. Now I live in 'hood where kids actually trick-or-treat. We went through like 8 bags of candy before 8:30! I thought I was dressed as sort of an executioner, but realized later I looked more like Snoopy on top of his dawg house in goggles. One kid thought I was a 300 pound Ninja. Pfft! I scared me a coupla kids right off the porch, though. Doing what I could in light of the candy shortage.

My birthday is in four days and I will be 36. Never thought I would live this long, and I am struck by one thought: how age changes you. When I was in my 20's, I thought I knew everything. My early 30's were a tragic lesson in learning that I don't know shit... but now I look back and I am starting to realize, I did have some firm truth when I was young. The world really is an oyster, and you shouldn't let the accumulation of hurt make you believe otherwise.

Whew... just gave a major presentation to half the office. Somehow... at the startup where I work, I have managed to move from being the Director of Web Technology to being the Creative Director. I maintain the company emails and design our business cards, so I just sort of changed my title when no one was looking. LOL I also decided to make myself responsible for marketing and strategy. I am pretty proud of the marketing aspect. Before, the company web site looked like... well, like a geocities reject with MS Word clipart. Now I have created a brand, the look and feel is hip and young and vital. No one would guess there are only about a dozen of us at the office. We have about 30 consultants out in the field. The company has tripled in size in the 9 months I have been here. Pretty exciting. I think it is ironic that most companies would be afraid of the way I present (big phat hairy dyke) and yet at this company I have created a package for the way our whole corporate image presents. I still don't want to deal with clients or sales or people. I like to stay in my corner office and quietly do what I do, and put it on paper.
Yes, I love my job, but I learned a long time ago... no one gets my soul. A job is not who you are. Nothing is forever... especially a job.

I had never seen fall foilage until I went to Massechusetts this past week. Dayum, I almost wrecked the car! Oranges, bright peach, mauve, burgandy, intense yellows. Really a treat for the eye. Here in Dallas, you only know it's fall cuz everything is suddenly dead one morning. And you gotta rake.
Ok, ok, I was asking my fellow co-workers at lunch if they knew that cranberries grew in the water. I explained that on my trip to P-Town I saw these cranberry bogs. They said I was just bragging now, to even mention the Cape. "I happened to notice while I was minding my own business IN THE CAPE." PFFT! I told them about whale watching, anyway. Amazing shit.
But it's back to the grind now. And I can tell my poor baby has given me her cold as I feel a fever. I should be down by tonight.
