i haven't made it out the fountains yet. i had every intention on doing so, but on the way to the first fountain, a gorgeous two level oblong beauty, i ran into mark, and well, mark tends to carry a lot of drugs with him. i guess he does it for a living, cause i never see him dressed up for work. i'd ask him but i don't ask questions like that - it's not my businessso i was on my to the first fountain, cutting through the park like i do. i try to stay off the road as much as i can. and there's mark, sitting on the grass, legs crossed, watching the runners and walkers and bikers and pet owners go by. The sun blinds me as it bounces off his white jumpsuit and his head is reflecting almost as much light as that so walking up on him is much like walking up on buddha or jesus or something, only, of course, buddha never had drugs as good as mark does. Or I assume he didn't, for some reason I doubt the path to enlightenment deals a lot in hallucinogenics. Mark, right on cue, as i'm crunching the leaves behind him, turns with the broad beaming smile that takes up half his face. Oh, he's lit. Aside from the goofy smile, his face has a fine sheen of sweat slicked across it. --- more to come later ---

it's monday. i know this because that's when i see the rest of you walking with such a purpose. gotta get somewhere, gotta get somewhere --- you all look so important in your purposeful strides and your "got no time for silliness" eyes. now some of you could break my heart from your gaze, you try to look tough and really, you're just bored, or scared, or you've cauterized yourself to numbness every monday morning.... wondering how it got to this. chasing cool, chasing success, afraid to crack a smile or just let yourself go for a moment.... too afraid to show joy to an outside world. today i'm gonna walk around downtown and find a good fountain to play in. i'm in the mood to frolic in water - to roll up my pants, take my boots and socks off and let my feet breathe cool water. usually i don't get to do this very long but i'm feeling lucky today. there are seven fountains in the downtown area and i intend to hit them all if i have to.
