I should leave this on the other blog, but what the hell. I hate it when a girl says she's coming home with you, then doesn't. Don't you hate that too?

It's ultra-low-polluting, uses very small amounts of fuel, and is so efficient that the energy it produces is nearly free. What is it? It's nuclear power and the United States has more expertise in it (and a better safety record -nearly perfect) than any other country in the world, except possibly for France. If we used nuclear power, our power plants would produce a few tons of nuclear waste each year, instead of millions of tons of air pollution. Our electricity would come at a consistent, low price from plants fueled by uranium mined here and in friendly nations, instead of wildly fluctuating prices from dangerously mined coal and oil pumped out of the ground in unstable and America-hating eastern countries. We already have the large number of nuclear technicians and proven training programs for them (in the navy) to replace all our fossil-fuel-burning electric plants with nuclear plants within a decade or two. So why don't we do it?

Trial lawyers and environmentalist wackos. Worth noting: these people are all liberal Democrats.

So what's wrong with you women anyway? When I ask a woman out, she owes me an answer. "No thanks" would be quite adequate. It's common courtesy, and I've done it myself. Changing the subject, just ignoring it and acting like I didn't say anything, as if I asked just for the hell of it and will forget by tomorrow, is not. Maybe in high school, but not at 25. If you manage to disagree with that, or especially if you're more mature than that, let me know.

The Clinton administration is doing this in order to make the Republicans stand up and defend an organization that's been convicted of homophobia in the kangaroo court of public opinion. Unfortunately it appears they're falling for it. If you haven't read Atlas Shrugged yet, do so now. You'll recognize an amazing number of things the liberals in power are doing in real life. It was bad enough when leftist academics took the weasel route and started calling anyone who disagrees with them racists/homophobes/etc. Now that load is coming from the White House. It's government-by-protest. Just remember -we already know where that road goes.

Boston Globe dusts off the politburo

Just in case you thought you could still trust the mainstream media, here's another nail in the coffin of that silly notion. The Boston Globe has suspended columnist Jeff Jacoby for 4 months without pay, because he rewrote the "what happened to them later" email forward about the signers of the Declaration of Independence and actually checked the facts (a lot of which apparantly were exaggerated or just plain wrong, no surprise), then submitted it as his column for the July 4th weekend. Since he didn't include a line saying 'while writing this I looked at versions written by other people as well as using reference books to check the facts', the Globe decided this constituted "serious journalistic misconduct". Without actually stepping up to claim it was plagiarism, they took away his job and his pay for four months. What's the real story? Jacoby (an orthodox jew) is conservative, while the Globe is one of the most left-wing major daily papers. This is obviously a political firing (the Globe apparantly strongly encouraged Jacoby to resign and threatened to take away his column even if he does come back) and has already gotten a lot of strong responses in Jacoby's defense, including one from Nat Hentoff, a liberal Washington Post columnist who specializes in free speech issues. Here are some links:

Jacoby's open letter stating his case and recounting what happened

Front page of the Jewish World Review with comments about the case

Boston Globe's lame explanation

David Horowitz of FrontPage magazine (no, not MS Frontpage)

The Washington Post keeps up its scary habit of using a headline or subhead ("The story line seems all too familiar: another Boston Globe columnist punished for borrowing someone else's work.") to put an often unwarranted interpretation on the simple facts being presented

Comments on MediaNews from people who (seemingly) know what they're talking about. Notice how most of the ones who support the suspension come right out and say they don't think he did anything that wrong but they support the suspension because they don't like his politics. These are the people most of the country gets their news from.

Stupid quote of the day

This is a twofer - it's combined with the stupid-way-to-go-to-prison of the day. At a little-league hockey game outside Boston, two otherwise adult males got in a fight in the hallway after their kids got in a fight on the ice. Jackass 'A' pummeled arguably sight-challenged ref 'B' unconscious, causing his death soon after ( "Hey ref, you need glasses! Come over here so I can, ah, beat you into a coma from which you'll never recover!" )

Jackass 'A's mother gets into the act with today's quote; just the kind of profundity that's missing in today's fast-paced society: ''At least it's not murder, thank God almighty,'' she said. ''I'm so sorry the whole thing happened - manslaughter is no joke either.''

Wow...

Doing my part to debunk Australia...

The next time somebody from one of our fellow English-speaking countries tries to tell you how good they are and how bad we are, just remember this.
