Incubus - Drive

Sometimes
I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself
How much I'll let the fear take the wheel and steer
It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague
Haunting mass appeal
But lately I am beginning to find
that I should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there I'll be there

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be
One of the hive will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive
It's driven me before and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
But lately I'm beginning to find
That when I drive myself my light is found

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Yeah whatever tomorrow brings
Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there I'll be there

An Afghan-American speaks:
You can't bomb us back into the Stone Age. We're already there. But you can start a new world war, and that's exactly what Osama bin Laden wants.

"Terror is infectious. Hatred is poisonous. Don't let the sickness in to your heart or your head. Some wicked people have commited unthinkable crimes against a great community. Those criminal terrorists are not part of our communtiy, but there are many people who look like them. Many who talk and dress like them. Many who share a religion with them. The many within our community have come here for the promise of a better place... A better life. Let's join together and prove that this IS a better place to live. Don't let the deeds of madmen water the seeds of hatred, and fear. Our community has been dealt a terrible blow, but we can not let it destroy us. Be smart, be strong, be understanding. Don't fracture the diversity that makes this community great. We all share in this responsibility. We have an opportunity to prove to the world that this community is not just mighty with the sword, but with head, and heart as well.

Tell everybody you care about that you love them, tell everybody you know that they matter to you, and tell strangers that they are part of your community. We are ALL in this together."

The Call Is Out for IT Experts:
2:00 a.m. Sep. 14, 2001 PDT

NEW YORK -- Techies of the world, New York City needs you.

Red Cross workers at the scene of the disaster desperately need computer equipment and technically skilled volunteers to aid in the recovery effort.

And soon, many businesses in the downtown area will need help and hardware to get back on their feet.

"The New York American Red Cross is in dire need of technology equipment and services," said Joe Leo, assistant director of the American Red Cross in New York.

Leo said there is a specific and immediate need for Citrix server engineers and Microsoft-certified consultants to help in setting up systems that will assist rescue workers in communicating and coordinating the recovery effort.

The New York Red Cross also needs laptops, wireless networking cards, printers, CD burners and other equipment.

Leo can be phoned at (212) 875-2409 or emailed. Donations of equipment can be sent to his office: 150 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10023. Leo said that his e-mail, and the Red Cross servers, has been hit with heavy traffic and asked that only those who wish to volunteer contact him directly.

A President Without A Place To Go:
He whispered something to Mr. Bush, and the colour drained from the President's face. Mr. Bush looked at the children, at the cameras, at the children again. Mr. Card stood off to the side briefly, then left the room.

Mr. Bush picked up a textbook in an attempt to follow the lesson, his concentration gone.

Driving home tonight from downtown Toronto, the streets were eerily quiet, despite the fact that the Toronto International Film Festival is taking place (or at least it was, apparently they closed down most of its screenings for the day). This time of year is usually filled with rowdy and excited commotion in the streets and it felt uncomfortable just listening to the CNN feed on the radio when I was in the car.

I also finally found out when I got home that my cousin is alright. She was in Queens, NY all day so was not affected. Her biggest concern right now is whether it is safe in the non-Manhattan parts of NYC, since police from all parts of the city have flooded to lower Manhattan to help in the rescue. Taking advantage of such a situation is utterly inappropriate and I bite my thumb at those who even think about wanting to riot/loot parts of the city with fewer police at the moment. How could they take advantage of such a tragic time like this? Gas prices have apparently shot through the roof in some parts of the US, since people think that they might be disturbances in supply. $5/gallon in parts of Texas and other states too? Unreal. I got gas tonight at about 71cents (cdn)/litre, which was up about 6 cents more than the early afternoon price, and $5/gallon is about three times the price of that.

Hardly anyone is doing any work right now in the department and half the people is in the lunchroom watching CNN. Senior Managment just came in and told us that apparently we're safe, according to the police, and there won't be any evacuation necessary for the time being. I've heard that the Rogers AT&T building downtown has already been evacuated.

cnn.com has been down since about 9am...overload or maybe it's down for another reason?

Jebus...I just hope my cousin in NY is okay.
