7.25.2000Let's see... updates... updates. I've made great strides in the Macquarium building process, which is cool. I traded in the SE for an already-gutted Mac Plus machine. I purchased the pre-cut glass for the tank from UGA's Glass Shop and put it together with some fishy-safe silicone sealant stuff. I bought a Dremel (the cheaper one-speed version) and cut the hell out of the Mac Plus casing, necessary for fishy access (hole in the top) and for the tank to fit inside it. (Click on Macquarium above and you'll see what I had to cut). Really all that is left to do is water-test the tank for leaks and then buy the actual fishy stuff (gravel, filter, toys... oh, and fish). But since we're moving in a couple of days, I suppose I'll hold off on that for the moment. I did disassemble the little Mac mouse that I brought home and gutted that... I think if I run an air line into that and little bubbles will trickle out, that would look pretty neato. And a fitting end to a mouse that didn't work anyway. What else is going on, in the life of Feeney, that anyone else would care to read about? I'm moving across the country in 3 days. That's pretty smurfy. posted by mike feeney on 7/25/2000 9:27:45 AM
7.18.2000So yesterday I decided to make an acquarium out of an old Mac SE computer. (see http://come.to/macquarium ) Yesterday was both good and bad in terms of progress... good because I acquired the SE, including keyboard and mouse for decorations (might just put the mouse inside the tank. ;). It was bad because I took it to this little Mac shop who, when I spoke with them on the phone seemed interested in gutting my little Mac for me, but when I arrived, wanted $35 to do it. Bleh, no thanks, I'll do it myself.Today, both good and bad. I contacted the Glass Shop here on campus about making a little tank for me. They wanted around $60 to build it, but under $20 for just the glass cut to size. FINE, I'll take just the glass. I then head over to the Electronics Shop to talk to a couple of people about gutting the mac for me. I get there and neither of the folks I'd been told about were there. Will I get no breaks with this thing?? Status report: Mac SE still intact; I don't own a Mac Cracker (tool used to open these bastards); glass for the tank is on order. more news as it develops. posted by mike feeney on 7/18/2000 10:02:24 AM
6.21.2000I work in a third story office, mainly consisting of one long room. The outside wall is made up of windows. The windows are roughly 7' wide by 10' tall. And they're all side by side. We look out into nothing but the tops of magnolia trees, squirrels, and birds. And it's pouring rain outside. I could just put my head on my desk and watch for hours, and never get tired of looking. posted by mike feeney on 6/21/2000 3:30:23 PM I got a letter yesterday.... "Congratulations! 6.19.2000"The globe began with the sea, so to speak; and who knows if it will not end with it? In it is supreme tranquility. The sea does not belong to despots. Upon its surface, men can still excercize unjust laws, fight, tear one another to pieces, and be carried away with terrestrial horrors. But at thirty feet below its level, their reign ceases, their influence in quenched, and their power disappears. Ah! Sir, live -- live in the bosom of the waters! There only is independence! I'll be performing on Friday night, down at DT's Down Under, at 9:30pm. I'm excited about the weekend, as tons of great locals are performing. My biggest problem will be deciding who to see, and when. =) The Breathlanes, Nathan Sheppard, John Mayer, Last Day Down... the list is huge. posted by mike feeney on 6/19/2000 12:55:53 PM
6.16.2000Tonight I called up my favorite bar and asked "Who's playing tonight?" The laughing response was, "You?" So I packed up my guitar, and Belinda and I headed out to DTs. I got to see several of my friends play, as basically a free-for-all jam-in ensued. It was great fun, and we made some very good and very bad music. I must admit I went off on a bit of a DMB kick toward the end, when I did "I'll Back You Up" and "Christmas Song" back to back. Oh well. The bassist for my band walked in and I got to chat with him while I was taking a break. He told me he'd heard the rumour that I was leaving town soon, and I confirmed it. So we made the promise to have at least another gig before I leave. I think I might miss this town. everybody's gone away posted by mike feeney on 6/16/2000 3:19:00 AM

Some years ago -- never mind how long precisely -- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen, and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off -- then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can." -Ishmael, "Moby Dick," by Herman Melville- posted by mike feeney on 6/1/2000 9:21:43 AM
