A few months ago I saw Deepak Chopra speak at the Arlington Theatre. He stated
something which had occurred to me in the recent past. With the internet, we
are in a sense creating an Akashic record.
This thought originally occurred to me while hiking. At the time I was contemplating
photographing a hike to a geocache.
A major reason why I post pictures (only occasionally in the recent past) is
to share my experience, especially my experience of things beautiful or good.
On my hike I envisioned a time when cameras were everywhere, and their output
was available to anyone via the internet. Eventulally this reality will render
physical travel or even presence, irrelevant.
Oddly, the depth of the akashic record of the internet is in many ways much
deeper than the potential to see anything (or be located) anywhere anytime.
Through the web log phenomena- any interested websurfer has a portal into the
thoughts and feelings of the blogger, creator. I can only imagine that these
portals will become only more rich with content as input devices and presentation
methods and skills of expression evolve.
With the opportunities for experience afforded by this evolving medium, once
apparently esoteric concepts such as instant manifestation (i.e. be careful
what you ask for you might get it), instant karma (good or evil intent will
be received in kind), become less easy to ignore. These concepts, and the pervasive
understanding of the importance of being good, were common knowledge to the
native people of the earth, but now what has been forgotten will soon be impossible
to deny. This reality underscores the ever more increasing and great importance
of things such as thinking good thoughts, being mindful, acting from a place
of peace, and cooperating/contributing with organisms that promote life.
This perspective on the future and present, reminds me of the importance of
attention, focus, collaboration, cooperation, visualization, planning, direction,
and the potential demise of top-down methods of control. I would like to believe
in the emergence of human creativity that has the power to transform, restore
and steward, our eco-system and evolution responsibly and fruitfully.
As defined by the skeptics
dictionary:
Akashic record
The Akashic record is an imagined spiritual realm, supposedly holding a record
of all events, actions, thoughts and feelings that have ever occurred or will
ever occur. Theosophists believe that the Akasha is an "astral light"
containing occult records which spiritual beings can perceive by their special
"astral senses" and "astral bodies". Clairvoyance, spiritual
insight, prophecy and many other untestable metaphysical and religious notions
are made possible by tapping into the Akasha.

For sometime I have been considering the nature of God. One question that occurs- is why do we (Christians?) assume that we are the pinnacle of life existent. We see other animals as a step somewhat below us, plants below them, and minerals below the plants. But what of that above us? Would it not be logical to assume that reality is consistent in having increasing and decreasing levels of complexity? There are orders of complexity above as well as below?
Along this line of thinking I have been playing with a metaphor which I have found to be much more informative than inconsistent. I like to state it as a question- what if the earth is like an egg seeded with the DNA (image) of what it is to become. In examining this metaphor- the first thought that arrives is that of the nature of Christ (or more accurately the metaphor was derived from this thought presented by Rudolph Steiner), The Earth is the physical body of Christ. I have been looking to find how this is inconsistent (or consistent) with the theology I was taught in church and school. A couple of scriptures come to mind:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God;all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1-3.
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image. Gen 1:26

While listening to NPR the other day I heard Ketzel
Levine's Talking Plants in which Michael Pollan was interviewed about his
new book.
The BT potato was one of the many interesting things discussed in this show.
Previously I had only heard vague references to the genetically engineered
BT potato. Pollan clearly described that the BT potato creates its own defenses.
BT- is a bacteria which is commonly used by organic farmers. It's beauty is
that it is a bacteria which is applied to fields, but is usually completely
destoyed by the sun within 24 hours. This short life cycle enables it to act
on bugs, but it does not persist in the environment long enough for other crop
pests to develop any resistance.
"Environmental groups and organic farmers on the other hand oppose the
approvals [of these new plants] because they fear
that widespread use of Bt crops will accelerate the development of resistance
to Bt."
I would think it is reasonable to assume that this fear will result in the
destruction of one of the most beneficial and relatively harmless pesticides
in use by organic farmers.
Now here is my question for all- could this easily be considered a crime against
humanity? That is, the use of these new plants, and the subsequent loss of utility (destruction)
of a tool used by organic farmers.
In a very real way, do not these actions make "clean" food less
accessible to humanity?
