spanking the verbal monkey

Well it's happened. Sbona said that there would be no lay-offs. Liar. Now I have friends out of work. I wonder what it feels like to wake up in the morning and know that my luxury was afforded on the backs of good people? Luckily, I will never know that feeling.

I resigned from my job last week. This week they announced that they were not going to meet thier numbers. In fact they said that they were going to lose about 12 cents a share this quarter and don't expect to see profits in this economic climate until Q3. If you have been following G's ordeal this all probably sounds fairly familiar. Today they said that there would be no lay-offs. That's what G's previous co said as well. I wish my friends here all the best.

Okay. Enough.

When the Ewoks replaced Wookies [as were originally intended] on Endor I thought "Why those annoying, awful little things" but I was young so it didn't bother me too much. Then I sat through Episode I: TPM and left the theatre thinking "What the fuck was that?" Yes I found Jar Jar annoying but who cares? What bothered me was that the flimsy excuse for a story was simply a bookend to a movie about a boy and his pod racer. Was it just me or did the whole movie seem to be about that race? To add insult to injury, the story that made up said flimsy bookend was pretty rotten too.

That brings me to today where I find out that the title for Episode II is "Attack of the Clones" . Is someone shitting me here? Officially they say that the title "harkens back to the sense of pure fun, imagination and excitement that characterized the classic movie serials and pulp space fantasy adventures that inspired the Star Wars saga". Weeeeeee, instantly I have been transmorgraphied into a giggling schoolgirl. Fuck you, George, and the "yes" men you rode in on. Stop trying to figure out what it was that once inspired you and just get back the basics that made you great - good stories, great characters and a boundless imagination. You need to stop listening to the marketers.

Dammit, he made me swear on my blog.

Saint Caffeine : Blog How long is Reech gonna work on these damn Illustrator files. I'm jonesin' for some blogger love.

In other news, I'm off to Portland today to visit some family so I'll be blog free for a few days. Don't get into too much trouble while I'm gone...

Usually my morning runs are confined to the school yard at the bottom of my hill. Granted, the yard is huge - but the view leaves much to be desired after my fifth lap. This weekend, Keely and I went camping in southern Alberta - Elkwater, located in the Cypress Hills Inter-Provincial Park. Man, it was beautiful. After pulling in, setting up the tent, trucking down some food and sleeping, we woke up nice and early and headed out on a 13k jog. We started the jog on a bluff looking out over Horseshoe Canyon and just kept going. And going. That was liberating.

Being somewhere beautiful can really get your mind off of the fact that your body is burning up.

Men are now completely useless. That's really too bad - what the hell are we going to do now?

You know you're in trouble when your first email of the day starts: "With all due respect, SJS can go fuck himself." and ends with "But I wouldn't do that because I'm not an arrogant asshole."

Good morning corporate America! Can you feel the love?

Why is it that I am always involved in conference calls which have very little to do with what I do? Where I work, the management would rather have a meeting about irrelevant items and involve the wrong people that spend quality time with the right people talking about real initiatives. Might I suggest Dale Carnegie?

I awoke this morning to Keely staring down at me. "Are you coming running?" My gut told me I should stay in bed. The married guy told me that if I wanted to stay married I should get my ass up. In case you're unaware, let me quickly tell you how I came to run at 6am every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. When Keely and I got back from our honeymoon in Costa Rica we looked at the slides we had taken whilst there. To my horror, I was no longer the lean and fit young man of yesteryear. Oh no. In fact I had transformed into one of those overweight, unhealthy 40-somethings I had poked fun at [secretly] during work hours. Trouble being, I was 28.

It was really a wake up call. The year before, I had helped my dad through the last months of his life as cancer slowly fed on his body. The experience of watching a person literally waste away changes something in you - something fundamental to the way you think about everyday. On the infamous trip to the Firestone Lodge in sunny California, Kelly T introduced me to a fitness program to which I have stayed true for 8 months. For 8 months I have worked out religiously, 6 days a week. I love it. Mostly.

Which brings me to 6am today. Keely was already dressed to thrill in her running outfit when I finally got out of bed. Kozmo the cat was still begging for more snuggles and my body wanted more sleep. But the shoes went on and somehow, my body made the run fun once I got going. The more I do with this body of mine, the more amazing it is to me.

You know that you have been too busy when.... the link to your blog has been removed from G's site. The shame of it all.

It's been a while. I feel something deep inside of me swelling up, pushing out the walls of my guts. It's coming. I can feel it.

I just got back from my umteenth trip to the valley [sillicon, that is] and have to comment on a couple of things. First of all the flight down was dead quiet. I figured that this had something to do with the fact that Comdex was happening in Vegas. I was surprised at the lack of people on the plane because for a week prior to leaving, we could not find one room between San Francisco and San Jose.

Anyways, the day we left we finally got a canellation at a Motel called "Firestone Lodge". What a piece of crap. Now you have to understand that I used to tour with a band - so my standards were already pretty low. But this took the cake. I had a whore with a couple of Johns to my left, 4 or 5 angry Hispanics to my right and some chump upstairs who could only watch TV with the volume turned all the way up. Oh, and don't forget that the room smelled like sweat and smoke and that my door was tried 4 times during the night. I thought I was going to wake up with a gun in my mouth.

Ah, the glamour.

Happy Louis Riel day.

Great. Another portal. That's just what this world needs.

11/6/2000

I've been waiting a long time to see G break the expletive barrier on his blog. "Crap" was close but still a cunt hair away. Oops, I reverted back to my line-man days for a moment. What a bunch of assholes.

11/3/2000

Well today I went to finish up the last chunk of my tattoo. After a couple more hours of fill and oozing interstitial fluid, I realized that a section of my life is coming to an end. Sound dramatic? If it does then you're probably unaware that it has taken me 7 months and 60+ hours of work to get here... Anyways, all I have left are the touch-ups which happen at the end of November. I'll keep you posted.

Is it just me? Sales people suck. At my company, it would seem that the people who sell our product should probably be a bit more savvy about something as important as the internet. I dunno, just a thought.

Okay. First of all let me warn you in advance that i'm a little bitchy lately because i'm on a cleanse. Not that the cleanse is all bad - my energy levels are up, I feel better all around, yada yada.... but now I crave all of the things I never crave like crappy burgers and the likes. So I thought i'd buy the cookbook that goes along with the fast. Not a big deal - I'll order it from their website that says "shop" all over it. So away I go. I can see "Herbal D-Tox Cookbook" and I have all kinds of buttons I can press but not one of them lets me buy the damn thing. Am I missing something?!?! Isn't the point of shopping to eventually buy something. Crappy cleanse.

There comes a time in every persons life when thinking the thoughts we have is not enough. It's a mysterious moment when we decide that whats on our minds needs to be blogged. So, with that in mind, I move forward...
