Finding the HTML Pocket Reference guide to be really quite handy.

Prior to this I used to have to visit a number of pages I had book marked or search using engines to discover the simplest of code that had just slipped my mind.

I would like one for CSS styles as well. I used to have a big binder with all of the common code printed out in but I suppose that is packed up in one of my big boxes in one of those cities I was in.

Damn graphic vagabond I am.

I am currently working on both Shiny Records and Big Metal Hubajube for my friend oZ. Its fun to be creative again and actually help someone out in the process of practice and producing for my resume.

I am now dealing with a new company called Intraspect out in California. The old VP of Marketing Bob Schoettle hooked me up to do updates until the middle of November. Not very long but at least it will pull me in some dough. I hope this, in turn, will lead to other lucrative opportunities.

I recieved an initial write back from someone regarding a job but he never wrote back to my response.

Damn

Starting Out

I began designing websites in the fall of 1994.

My first introduction to HTML was by my friend Stu who showed me how to set up a web page in order to view someone's JPG or GIF file if I did not have an image viewer by using a browser [it was mosaic at the time].

I saw him tap-tapping a whole lot of 'code' in to make this one image show up and I thought to myself there was 'no way in hell i'd ever figure this shite out' and 'damn, stu's smart, why am I not this smart?'

It wasn't until almost a year later that I finally took on the task of creating my own homepage. Seemed like all the people I engaged in conversation with on the chat channels had their own page and I wanted something to grab people's attention and show myself off as well.

I talked to my friend Calvin who worked professional in some aspect of the Internet and asked him if he could teach me the basics of HTML.. We met the following night at the Elephant and Castle up at Yonge and Eglinton in Toronto.

So I pulled out all my books today.
I was determined to get back into designing. Refocusing my efforts rather than getting caught up in just surfing about caught in awe with others abilities and creations. I've been filled with Envy. Envy. Envy.

- Project Cool Guide to XML for Web Designers
- Creative HTML Design
- PHP3 Programming Browser-based applications
- Web Navigation - Designing the User Experience
- HTML pocket reference

I will now peruse these books. Perhaps even read them cover to cover. These books that have been sitting looking pretty on my bookshelf, their only purpose being to tell the world that:

YES, I design websites. I AM a web designer.

I've subscribed to DC-Webwomen mailing lists and resubbed on a few of the HTML Writers Guild lists. I will READ the posts to these lists, not just hit delete, and not just file them away believing that I will return one day to absorb them.

This will be a page I use to muse about technique, progress, design elements, frustrations and general web site creation.
