Amber
Nothing much to report. Been spending far too much time tweaking web site stuff for the Amber game.

Ho Hum
And once again, everything dwindles away into dreary nothingness. I'm buying a house. Scary!

Site Work
I hope to do some work on the web site this weekend. I actually made a start on the Conical Effect area this afternoon, then lost it when the reboot of our server at work took me by surprise. One thing I will be doing this weekend is setting up an FTP server at home. I should then be able to point Blogger at this, and run a script at home to feed this to the host for conical-effort whenever it changes. This will have the twofold effect of both enabling me to cancel my Demon account (saving £11.75 a month) and cut down on bandwidth usage (currently my Blog is updated every 30 mins by retransferring everything from Demon to the host, which doesn't run an FTP server).

Dungeons & Dragons (2000)
Okay, what's bad about this film? Jeremy Irons hams it up to the gills, as do most of the cast. Just Jeremy is somewhat more obvious because he is 'eviiiiiiil'. The dragons are just beasts rather than intelligent entities, and the only difference between red and gold is the colour. Too much schmaltz. Complete bollocks hand waving about magic by Tom Baker as some ancient elf. Continuity errors halfway throught the film, and an ending that made no sense whatsoever.
Okay, what's good about this film? Its impossible to feel down with Justin Whalin being so impossibly cheerful all the time. Richard O'Brien with a brilliant cameo as the head of thieves guild, complete with a dastardly maze with a crystal at the centre. A very nice CGI modeled cityscape. And of course its heroic fantasy, so there's a few good fights in there as well.
Don't watch if ... you're a pedant ... can't stand overacting.
Do watch if ... you like fantasy ... you enjoy entertaining visual stimuli.

The Gift
Saw this last night. Enjoyable film. Keanu Reeves was surprisingly good. Quite a host of well known actors, although they are all secondary to Cate Blanchett's character. Giovanni Ribisi was still a bit typecast, but is very good at it.
It was basically a 'mellow' thrille, although some of the dream sequences were jump moments. Had quite a nice feel to the film, with an uncomplicated score.
One question: how many doors did her house have? Seemed like at least three, only one of which had a decent lock/chain.
