A Tiny Little Division of Selbstbild
If you're an engineer, I can forgive your bad spelling and grammar. I'll let the occasional forgotten comma slide. Or if you're an electrician who can't seem to remember to capitalize your nouns in German, I can deal.
But the exclamation points have to go.
If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's these guys who send me reports for translation and feel it necessary to emphasize certain significant points by saying things like:
How annoying. Especially since I have to translate it just as it is-- otherwise I wouldn't be doing my job. My job is to create a document that is as true to the original as possible, but in another language. So if you're stupid in one language, I have to be stupid in another. And then it looks like I'm being stupid.
I hate that.
Cedar: i actually set a reminder about your birthday because your "user details" has it marked down. as well as your occupation in case i forget.
Okay, so the updates didn´t come as often as I thought they might. It´s been hard enough trying to fit everything into our measely vacation of just over ten days as we traipse around Germany-- you can imagine that geeking out takes a somewhat lower priority.
Anyway, we pretty much toured through most of Germany except the northeastern parts-- covered a few thousand kilometers and went to several cities-- München, Dresden among others. All of my cards for my digi cam are pretty much full. I´ll have my work cut out for me when I get back, organizing it all, but I think I´ve got some really cool shots in there.
It looks like a lazy day in Dortmund today. Nothing´s open anyway. We fly home tomorrow.
Then we´ll just have to see.
Hard to believe its already Saturday, but here we are on day 2! We had a great trip over, with absolutely no problems. In fact, we showed up at Sebastians 3 hours earlier than expected! After finding Seb and Kyungs apartment, we went to the University and saw Walter and Moritz, and then downtown to get some food and walk around a bit. Sarah and I crashed for a few hours in the afternoon, then we went to dinner at Hoevels, the best brewery on the face of the planet. Fantastic food, too. Ariane and Meni and Moritz were there with me and Sarah and Seb and Kyung. Afterward we went to a bar that was new for me, called "Platz in der Sonne" (place in the sun).
Today were probably going to head out to the Sauerland, where Seb grew up. Tonight were going to the Keller, best nightclub in town.
More later if I get a chance.
I always believed that there wouldn't be that much of a difference between going to an Ivy League school and going to a small, top-20 liberal arts school, from the perspective of the education I would get out of it. I figured that it would be better to avoid the politics that go with ivies.
I think I was right. But if I was still in school at Hamilton, THIS would be SERIOUSLY PISSING ME OFF. I'm retroactively pissed right now.
Our graduation keynote speaker was some ex-under secretary of the UN a million years ago. He was probably 90 years old. I can't remember a single word he said. Nobody in the senior class listened to him.
And who does Harvard get? WHO DOES HARVARD GET?
Unbelievable.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?
Selbstbildchen is a blog. It is a supplement to my journal, Selbstbild. It's basically a notebook, a place where I mark down random thoughts and interesting links to check out, as well as occasionally posting updates and information about the main journal. It's a blog and separate from the journal because this format allows me to update from anywhere, at anytime. So if you're wondering why I'm not updating or why something isn't working, check this out and you may find what you're looking for. You might also find a link or fun-fact tidbit to brighten your day. Or you might be bored out of your mind. No guarantees.
