5 Days sits alongside my KISS, Metallica collection!

I had the pleasure of seeing you guys at the Saskatoon EX. My tastes in music are widely varied, but for the most part, I like electronic and hard rock. A friend of mine is a really big fan of yours and asked me to come along. I went, and will never forget it. When going to a live concert, I'm used to hearing the constant screaming, bad singing, etc. I'm usually the one who you'd see crowd surfing at such a concert. When you started playing, I was awe struck. It was an amazing concert! All I did was sit and stare in amazement. I have now added "Five Days In July" and "Lost Together" to my collection of KISS, Metallica, Darude, Crystalmethod and other albums. Alot of my friends ask me what the hell I'm doing, but I'm glad they are there.

Thanks For The Experience.

People come over to my house and ask who's playing!

I first heard of BR a year or so ago from a girl I talked to online, from Newfoundland; we'll call her "R". Since I'm from Indiana, USA I had never heard of BR before ...I learned of the Juno Awards and all these BR videos I've been missing out on ...but most Americans don't know who BR are. When people come over to my house and I'm listening to BR, they like it...they ask who it is, then after awhile they just know. My brother put in a cd of mine just the other day and started singin to it, it was so cool. He didn't know the words that well yet but he didn't care...I think that was what made it so cool ...I've got friends wanting to borrow them, and record them and asking me how they can get them and if we can all go to a concert and stuff like that. It's like BR fever or something...everyone wants it but can't find it ...we want more BR in the US, we love you!!!!!!!

We love you in Spokane!

Guys, first of all, I was recently turned on to your incredible music by a friend of mine who lives in Lethbridge, Alberta. I'm thinking that this great country in which I live (US) is not so great if we don't have access to your music! We saw your show in Sandpoint last night and I was blown AWAY! I've never seen artists who so enjoy what they do! This friend of mine is one of your greatest fans... You guys are awesome and WE LOVE YOU IN SPOKANE!!!!!

Thanks for doing what you do.

"She gave me diamonds for eyes"

Dear Greg,
Your music has touched a place in my soul which words cannot describe. I admire your talent and how so many of your songs I can relate into my own life experiences. One verse that comes to mind quickly is "in that second of a shooting star somehow it all makes sense". Life so many times for me has thrown me curves, yet in a split second it makes sense and just as quickly all goes nuts again. One question...Dark Angel, when you say "she gave me diamonds for eyes" do you mean that to be that things you once did not take notice of or pay attention to all of a sudden become more beautiful, small everyday things in life that one may just pass by without a second thought. That is how I understand what you say, please let me know if I am correct.

Your True & Loyal Fan....Please keep the inspiration coming!!

Sign my son's diaper!

Bazil, Thank you so much for being willing to sign my son's diaper! I'm sure it's not every day that you get one shoved in your face and you were very sweet to autograph it, at his first concert. It will go in his baby book! You guys were awesome! Keep making great music! Loved you in Austin, TX!!! Thanks again,

Naked and tired???

I don't have the lyrics for "Bad Timing" but the first line sounds like "...just got in from way up north, naked and tired and I could use a friend.." Im pretty sure those aren't the words. What are they? Signed a disclexic fan,

'It could happen to You' saw me through 3 Spinal Cord surgeries

Hey Guys !!!
I am a huge fan and your song " it could happen to you " has seen me thru 3 Spinal Cord surgery's...why ? because people just don't understand how your life can be torn apart in a second. But when "it happens to you"...then all you've worked hard to get, you loose, and in my case, that was a huge loss...my house, gone, my education, gone my A1 credit rating...gone...all because I have a rare spinal cord disease that require's surgeery every other year. So when people say, or look down on me beacuse I lost it all, as I couldn't work and thus lost everything...I like to tell them to go to HMV and have a listen to "It could happen to you, by Blue Rodeo " Those who were friends and didn't understand the devastation and how hard it really is to put the peice's back together, got a loud " It could happen to you " listen !! So, that's how your song got me thru 3 spinal cord surgery's. However the worst part about it all it that I can no long play my guitar or your songs as I used to love to do...just can feel the strings...I've been playing for almost 30 years.

Anyways, I can still hear your music and that's so very very cool...I will get over not playing (in about 2 million years ) but so long as you guys keep putting out the tunes...I'll be happy...so don't EVER split up, or I'll send my Baba after ya ! (she slings awsome cabbage rolls !).

Take care,

She's 78 years old and a big fan of Jim Cuddy!

I just wanted to thank you for posing for a picture with my Mom .... She's 78 years old and a big fan of Blue Rodeo, but especially of You, Jim Cuddy. She has the picture of you and her in her livingroom and shows everyone who comes in. She is a very shy person and was upset when I first told her that I'd arranged for her to get her picture taken with you and then was very thrilled when it happened. She is a wonderful Mom and has always been there for the 8 of us children and has had alot of hard times in her life so when I heard you were coming so close to where we live, I got her the tickets for Mothers Day and then she was worried that you would get sick or that she'd die before the concert, so once again THANK YOU.

Dark Angel was the only song played at her funeral

Dear Jim,
I have to apologize for my boyfriend's ignorance as he did not know who you were when he sat next to you on the plane from Edmonton to Toronto the other day! I am working on him ... our friend Danielle who passed away last Labor Day weekend who was a huge fan of yours. Dark Angel was the only song played at her funeral.

One day Danielle and I were sitting on the steps of her student ghetto house at Queen's. We were talking about girl stuff, you know what songs we would like for our weddings ... We thought for a while until Danielle said, "Dark Angel would be nice" ... Dee (as we liked to call her) died very suddenly, was hit by an elderly driver in the afternoon as she rode her bike home from the lumber yard ... I knew when she died that Dark Angel would be the song and I couldn't believe the irony of our previous conversation. Danielle was an absolute angel. She was gorgeous and she never even knew it ... I would like you to know that your songs were a big part of her life, and Blue Rodeo tunes now have an even bigger tug on mine and many other friend's of Danielle's heart strings ... Thanks again for you soothing tunes. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,
Keltie (August 6, 2001)  >>>discuss it!

I couldn't get over how many ladies were swooning over you

Hey Jim,
I'm a long time fan and I just stumbled onto the site. I couldn't get over how many ladies were swooning over you (no offense). I only wanted to write and thank you for the music you and the band create and produce. I have really connected with some of your pieces, and they help make the day of work go by painlessly. Next time you and the band are in Winnipeg, the beer is on me. Thanks.

You made me stand proudly as a status member of the first nations

Dear Mr. Keelor
I realize that you are inundated with correspondance and with a hectic schedule ... I hope that my letter will make it to you. I actually wrote to you once before, it was soon after the release of Outskirts. My sister had been at a promotion for the album's debut and thought I would like the music so she got me a tape- I have been a fan since ... Anyways, I was walking my dogs the other morning before work and I was listening to Lost Together when it dawned on me that I had been following Blue Rodeo's evolution. Out of all of the bands that I have listened to over the years, Blue Rodeo has been part of my tumultous teens, growing pains and life experiences since. In my mid twenties I was diagnosed and treated for cancer ... It was a difficlut year for my family and myself. I went into surgery being told I would have to have a tracheotomy for the rest of my life and I would never speak again. After the second surgery I came very close to dying but, recovered, remained tracheotomy free and I still have my voice. During that time I used to play Western Skies and dream of being free (and out of the dreaded city).

Last year I went to Manitoulin Island, it was hard to leave the peace and beauty. It was also a pilgramage to travel to my late grandfather's hometown. Growing up, I had been indirectly made to feel ashamed that I had native blood in my genes and in my soul ... When I discovered that Blue Rodeo supported native causes, that helped me become more open about my own desire to stand proudly as a status member of the first nations. In that aspect you have become more than just a person who can compose hauntingly beautiful and soul embracing music, you have become a mentor. Armour is a song that I can personally relate to, as I spent most of my life with a protective guard up until I came to a point in my life where I realized that I can no longer be hurt from those who constructed the emotional wall. I would like to thank you for bringing memories and dreams in your music and for the raw emotions that come forth in every note. Sincerly

Jim should have been in bed with tylenol

Just a quick note to say thanks for yet another great show in calgary during stampede (kind of a bizarre time of year in our fair city). We so enjoyed your gig in spite of being harrassed endlessly by the 'shooter girls' at desperados! Jim seemed like he was pushing the limits a bit and loked like he should have been in bed with a bottle of tylenol, yet still managed a really great set, how do you do it?? loved your new piece 'bulletproof' (have i got that right?) and were glad you put it out there. loved seeing greg yell profanities over that mother*&%?in' smoke machine..and glad they finally got the damn thing shut down! it was a great sweaty night in spite of all the huge stetsons.
we love watching ALL of you play live... so come back soon. peace

Complaints about the Molson Amphitheatre show

Hi guys, I am writing with complaints about the Molson Amphitheatre show on July 13th. Blue Rodeo, as usual, was great. You played with lots of energy, and the solos were all wonderful. ...your playing didn't let me down, it was everything else. First: since when do you guys not have a warm-up act? ...Second: the Molson Amphitheatre sucks. ...The seats at the Amphitheatre are too close together... Also, nobody dances at the Amphitheatre because we are all too considerate to block the view.

The great thing about the Stardust Picnic was the casualness of it; everyone danced, sang, moved around; it was like a huge party. Last Friday I paid almost twice as much to sit on a hard seat, with my head and body twisted around, to get a glimpse of several miniscule figures on a stage. I might as well have stayed home and watched videos on my tv. I never cared if it rained at the Stardust Picnic; that was part of the fun. Also, the sound was atrocious. The strings and the horns were a good idea; however, when you can't seperate the different instruments because the mix is so bad, it all comes at you as one big noise. While we were impressed with the length of the show the inconvenience of getting to the show, the price of the tickets, the formal atmosphere and inadequacies of the Amphitheatre and the lousy sound made the evening terribly unenjoyable.

still a fan, Katherine (July 15, 2001)  >>>discuss it!

Molson was nothing compared to the stardust picnic!

hello, well I was at the blue rodeo show last night in toronto and I have to say while, yes it was a good show, it was nothing compared to the stardust picnic ... I think the molson amp is too big of a venue for blue rodeo to play, the sound was not that great compared to many other blue rodeo shows we have seen, but I must comment that the horns were great!! I only hope that next year they go back to doing the stardust picnic...

Thank you for your music. Thank you for the emotion you put into each and every song. Thank you for staying together after all these years. Thank you for putting on a great show, all the time. Thank you for remaining humble and not taking that "rock star" attitude. Thank you for those "special songs" that every one of us have. Thank you for Dark Angel. Most of all, thank you for all the memories that you have, and will, create for all the fans. Thank you...

Now the webpage is part of my morning routine

...I would like to tell you how great I think your site it. I work on a webpage and have a great appreciation for the good ones and yours is one of the best in my opinion. I have been a BR fan since the late 80s or early 90s and each time I would see them I would be high for a week or two thinking about the band etc. I had discovered your webpage before I saw them the last time. Now the webpage is part of my morning routine. The end result is the "high" never leaves. I haven't been this interested in a band since I was a 13 girl reading Tiger Beat. You can tell the band that it is an excellent marketing tool ...Anyhow, thanks again for your help and keep up the good work.

James, You Remind me of FOZZIE BEAR

Hey Guys!
Just wanted to let you know that you were FAN-FRIGGING-TASTIC at Bluesfest! Jim, I just about melt into a puddle of mush everytime I see you do that little "two-step" of yours when you're strummin' on that guitar ... Gee, how I wish I could be your guitar for just one night!!! LOL! James, you remind me of FOZZIE BEAR when you're pounding away on that keyboard! And that is meant as a total compliment! You look so cute! You're just sooooo into the music. It's inspiring... Greg, I have to say that you look fabulous. A big change from the last time I saw you (January 2000).

I just think that it's great that you guys aren't on this big "celebrity" trip. You're not afraid to mingle with the crowd and you always take the time to talk to your fans. I believe this is one of the biggest reasons that you have such a strong, devoted following of adoring fans such as I! Oh, and your new songs are to die for!!! I'll tell ya, that show was just a "big tease"! Thanks for an awesome show!

You had People Dancing In the Streets!

Hi guys,
I saw you play last night in Ottawa and you were absolutely amazing. You literally had people dancing in the streets...on my way to the car I came across a couple of groups of people dancing and having a great time outside the park. My friend and I were discussing Canadian musicians and although you and The Odds have a different style of music I think that the two of you would compliment each other...it would be a fantastic show. To the Infinite Sound of What You Share

hey
you know, it only grows
8 years ago I went to see who made this music that
spins around my spirit
and you all signed a set list
it is the only autograph
before or since
I ever wanted really, ever

then, I went again
you were all here a week ago
spinning twinkling melodies
around moons of rhyme
and it was only more
beautiful
partly because I understand passages
partly because you move through so openly
it sees the center as a place
we all dance around

anyway,
I forgot my set list
and I thought it would be cool
to have the only other autograph
I would ever want
be the same as the one before,
only with time transpired
who would ever know
looking at the same page,
but me

I could mail it to the band
if you would send it back to me?

Hey,
to the infinite sound of what you share
thanks

Listening to Five Days in July is one of our special Father-Son things!

Hi Guys, just got back from our ritual BR St-Jean Baptiste weekend concert at Bourbon Street. It was spectacular. You pick your opening acts well and never fail to be generous with your stage, of course I am referring here to Sarah Harmer. Congratulations on the four piece back-up band, great idea ... In fact, we are just saying how for forty dollars we got so much more for our money than going to see our beleaguered Canadiens play...

My son George-Andrew (he's nine) is also a great fan. Listening to Five Days in July is one of our special Father-Son things. I actually got to bring him to Bourbon Street last year ... it certainly was memorable and worthwhile (don't tell your legal guys!). Greg, it was nice this year to have you whole and lucid on stage (only half kidding!).

Even My Kids Have Become Mini-Blue Rodeo Fans!

Hello all:
I was introduced to your music when I was a fellow at Sick Kids in Toronto between 1992-1994. I fell in love with Canada and left a little piece of my heart there. I loved your music then and I love it even more now. When I operate at the Children's Hospital in which I work I love to have your music in the background. Even my kids have become mini-Blue Rodeo fans. I have been able to generate a few new Blue Rodeo fans in Columbus, Ohio and I hope you will be able to work out tour dates here.
Again, thanks a million for your music. It often speaks to my heart.

I Hope You Catch Up On Your Sleep Before You Play!

Hey guys...just a little note from the Townships regarding last Saturday night at Higher Ground. To start off, I took off work early. Next I paid a fortune to have a baby sitter ... third, as soon as I crossed border the rain started and lasted ( a torrential downpour ) for the entire 2 hour drive down ... All this to have the pleasure of seeing Jim and Greg's eyes at half mast. Bit of a bummer considering I'm used to those lovely wide awake smiles. I hope you both catch up on your sleep and strong strong family hugs before you venture off again.

Rochester is missing some damn great performances from Blue Rodeo

Dearest Band Members,
My wife and I have been fans since 92. Growing up along the Canadian border we picked up your music out of Montreal and Ottawa. We moved to Rochester last year and were thrilled to see you last week at Milestones. It was a kick to run into 3 other friends there from Massena, New York who also are loyal fans. One of the guys has already taken it upon himself to inform the local paper that Rochester is missing some damn great music and performances from Blue Rodeo... Thanks again for the show, we will see you again soon.

I dont know if that means anything to you since you get like a million of these every day but i think what differes me from the rest is that i think your music is a release from the pressures of the other music ... I still listen to Alternative and Rap and Freestyle and all the rest but what im really trying to say is thanks for doing what you do. BR, Talk about timing... Thanks to Napster I was introduced to your music about 3 months ago. Since then I have been searching for your music. Everytime I have been successful, I've grown to like a new song. I had a feeling that you were Canadian, through your ties with Sarah McLachlan (my favorite artist), but I had hoped that you might be appearing in New York soon. I noticed that you are playing in Hoboken in a couple of weeks! I am going to bring all of my friends and my girlfriend to see you guys. I love your music. I am honoured to have won br.com Contest!

I am so honored to have won this contest. Considering the chances of winning anything is surprising. The thing is I have listened to blue rodeo for years, singing there songs with friends by camp fires and seening many shows, for I actually am from Edmonton, Alberta. Living down in the states for another adventure, I never thought I'd see them. Then they do this tour and of coarse I jump in my truck, drive out of these rugged mountains, escape my winter cabin fever and get tickets for my favorite inspiring band blue rodeo, the show in Portland. How exciting it was, so I not only got to see my favorite canadian band perform but I also had the honor to go on there tour bus and meet all the talented beautiful guys that I have adored. And now I win the contest. My karma and luck are sure treating me well. Life is good!

Clean Up the Web page

Hi,
Blue Rodeo is a fantastic band, however someone should have the official web page cleaned up a little. First of all it's nothing but advertising for profit. Secondly, it's a mess. Way too much clutter and no style. Good luck with the web site, and keep up the good work (music).

BR's music is like fever, says a fan from Norway!

Hi!
I am a 46 years yong musicloving man from Norway. I'v got a lot of favorit artist and bands in my collection, aspecially from America: Springsteen, Wilco, Melissa Etheridge etc. BUT, every time there's a new Blue Rodeo album out, I empty my cd-player and fill it up with the new, and old BR-albums and play only Blue Rodeo for a week or two.
It's just like a kind of fever, when i've just started I can't stop for a while. Your music has given me some of the best moments in my life and I hope I'll be abel to see you on stage here i Norway soon. I missed you the last time you where here. Will you be back soon?

Keep on making this great music and give my best whishes to the rest of the band.
Yours sincerely

Tell Jim to get his ass down here!

Hello There ... I am a true blue, maybe too true blue, I live in Newfoundland and that is a good thing and a bad thing, we don't get much talent here. Soooooo, we are just opening our new state of the art Mile One Stadium ... Travis Tritt is coming, so are the Bare Naked Ladies ... Why isn't Blue Rodeo coming to Newfoundland on this tour ... One constant thing I could count on is that Blue Rodeo wouldn't forget the Newfies ...I am sad to think that they have!!! I am considering going to PEI and NB and NS to see them but I have to say I feel kinda ripped off.....ohhhhhh talk about DISAPPOINTMENT!!! ... Newfoundlanders LOOOOOOOVE Blue Rodeo and are very disappointed. Hope Jims leg is better but tell him to get his ass down here......lol!!! Best Regards.

I'd love to surprise my wife with BR performance

Dear Friends,
I am a transplanted Canadian living in Charlotte, North Carolina. I have been a B.R. fan since day 1. Having seen the band perform live several times, I was wondering if there were any plans to tour this part of the country at any time ... I was also wondering what it would take to book the band for a personal performance. My wife is American, and now a B.R. fanatic like myself. She is currently recovering from cancer, and if it within my capabilities I would love to surprise her with a performance as well as a big ol' party.

Thank You,

I can write my own "Bad Timing"

Hi, Jim, I have been a Blue Rodeo fan for as long as I can remember. I think I remember Try which inspired me to want to see you at every opportunity possible ... I watched a TV special on CMT and I was listening to what you had to say and I have to say I really appreciated and understood what make's yourself "giitty" ... What I really want to know is what inspired you to write "Bad Timing"? because I know every word to this song and I can relate. I want to know your story because I am pretty sure I can write my own "Bad Timing" song ... I will see you at the Kee to Bala on the long weekend in May and all I will ask is that you and me sing "Bad Timing" together ... and if I had ... I would invite you back to my cottage after the Concert.

They are flying around us, over us, next to us...

Hello,
Please can someone tell me why oh why oh why they aren't coming to Newfoundland on this tour ...what is happening? Very depressing I assure you....they are flying around us, over us, next to us, and across the ocean from us, can't they just stop in for one night. As you can see I have a small obsession going on with BR and I wanted to be the first to say that the good people of Newfoundland love Blue Rodeo too and will be so disappointed. What about the Salmon Festival in Grand Falls, what about the show at the Delta, lest we forget my dear friends, lest we forget!!!! Ya gotta laugh I guess, but it is NOT funny in my little world hehehe!

Anyway I will see them in some Atlantic province, but it isn't fair why are Newfoundlanders always forgotten about. Soon I will have to go to the UK to see BR....there is something wrong with that....sad on the Rock!!! Is the place they are playing in in St. John's New Brunswick a bar? Mile High? Thanks in advance for your disappoining answers...lol!!!!!

Put a note explaining the USD prices for store

I do think that it would be great to put a note equivalent to what you have sent me on the site, as I do believe that many of the customers will be Canadians. Even advertising a Canadian dollars price beside the US one so people are aware of the exchange difference and not a mark up would be great. Then simply an indication at paying time that USD must be charged as it provides a better system for people. Certainly, the explanation is better than being hit with USD at a time when USD are not fun to look at for us as Canadians!
Thanks,

Whackjob at the Buffalo Gig

James... My wife and I had a great time at the Buffalo gig on the 24th of Mar. We sat on the table just in front of you. NO we were not the couple that sat right on the stage and kept sticking their hands in your face and in your " working space ".... At the start of the night he was a good natured guy but as the chemicals in the american beer kicked in he seemed to get less and less aware. You showed incredible restraint. thanks for a great show. We see you guys a lot but this is the first time we got this close. It was excellent fun.

Tralf is too small, you need to play a bigger venue in Buffalo!

Sorry I missed the show last nite at the Tralf, but I already had tickets to the Sabres game. Last time you were here I had strep throat. I guess I'll have to wait until summer now. ... the tralf is too small, you need to play at a bigger venue in Buffalo. I get clostraphobia in there if it's packed. Greg, I just wanted to thank you for your solo C.D. (We had a brief meeting on Hwy. 89, while you were on route to your show in Durham), I thought the disc was great. I especially liked Blue Star, and Heaven. I can't wait till the first humid summer evening that I can play the disc and drift into sleep, in my favorite chair on my deck... A second class, bar - type gig

Hi to all... I am compelled to write you an email to express my feelings about the first and only concert I have been to in Oshawa last Saturday night. ... I truly love your music.. the words to most of your songs touch a place deep in my soul ....

All I want to say is YOU.. Blue Rodeo are BETTER than THAT !!!!! I sat in section 15, and observed the "floor seats" and the festivities going on down there ... I felt like I was observing a "Bar Gig".. people were sitting at tables talking for God's sake. YOU-BLUE RODEO are better than that!!!!! ... There were people drinking, dancing, smoking (which is fine for a bar type gig), but you guys are SO much better than that.. The music was very distorted because of the echo's in the arena, I already know almost every song by heart and had no problem singing along, however, my husband is not very familiar with your music and he could not understand one word being said or sung. We actually left and went back to the motel and listened to your CD's at intermission.

I have read the discussion board and realize how happy you made the people standing down there feel.. but from one who was up in the seats, it did not look professional at all. ... I think you guys have what it takes to make it BIG... Real BIG in the USA, but somebody, please take a look at how the concerts are set up.. Treat yourselves like the professionals you ARE !!!! ... I am sorry for the criticism, but I must be honest. I will continue to love you and your music and listen to it daily.. on my CD player for now.

I wish you the best of luck as you reach the fame you truly deserve...

If you were a dog, what dog would you be?

I am really excited to be able to finally be in a position where I can express my adoration and admiration for you and let you know that I am positively in love with BLUE RODEO. I am old girl and have no visions of being a grouping but I must confess that there are times in my life when I been more than moderately obsessed.

We once had a beautiful german shephard that had been retired from police duty that we were able to adopt, our family called him Keelor. Not to be outdone we got my bestest friend a bichon shitzu and of course I called him Cuddy. He doesn't sing near as good you but he has helped me through some very difficult times in my life, not unlike those wonderful songs that u &G write. I am absolutely indepted to you guys for sharing your talents with me. The new song off of Days in Between, Somebody Waits I am sure was written just for me.

Please keep up the great work, and thank your families for sharing you guys with us people who love you.

The reason I am writing you this email, is in regards to your website. I've been following your online presence since your last web page (the one mostly black, which I enjoyed) and then this one. Mutual friends of Gordon Lightfoot

Mr. Cuddy,

I must relate a story to you that I have been telling on myself for the past year or so. I am a huge Gordon Lightfoot fan and I know you are a fan as well. It has been my pleasure to meet Gordon once or twice and he has always been very gracious and patient.

At the last set of Lightfoot Massey Hall concerts I was lucky enough to get great seats in the second row. During one of the songs, Lightfoot leans over the footlights, looks right at me and smiles like he recognizes me. Boy--you can bet that this made me feel great! He remembered me! Lightfoot--my idol! Well--I got to tell you--it was quite a moment for me--until the end of the song. At this point, Lightfoot comes back over to my side of the stage and says--"I'd like to welcome Jim Cuddy, of Blue Rodeo"--You were sitting right in front of me! It was you he recognized--not me! I was crushed--well at least for a few minutes. I did get this great story out of it and I will be telling until the end of time.

Just thought you'd like to know of your role in one of my best "personal" Lightfoot stories.

Your lovely mum

I'm writing Jim, to ask how your mum, my Grade 11 English teacher back in the 80's is? I often think of her because you resemble her immensely. I hope she is at this point blissfully enjoying retirement and steering clear of adolescents! I gather you have a brother because she often spoke of 'her boys' and how one was into football!

Anyway, I hope to see you one of these days when you perform in Oshawa. I'd rather wait though and see the band play in Toronto. I once went to a circus at the Oshawa arena and thought I would suffocate it was miserably hot, poorly ventilated and, well, just plain sucked.

Take care,

Crap Music

Just wanted to let you know that I never could understand how a crap band like [name removed to protect the innocent] could make it over here in the U.S. and your band didn't. I saw you a few years back at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN, when your CD Lost Together had just come out. I had never heard your music before. They were playing it on one of our local radio stations. I went to see you and thought you were great. I bought your other CD's and continued to look for new CD's when they came out.

Always tried to follow you but not much news about you here in the good old finicky U.S. of A. Have been listening again lately and still enjoy your music. Don't quite understand how some make it and others don't.

I read a bit of the discussion board, and reviewed your 2000 Awards. Amazing. ... It's a great thing to see the site administrators and the band take such an active interest in this mode of communication.

... Promoting a band and sustaining interest really goes beyond the stage these days, and it's great to see a site that takes that business so seriously, while still having fun, having a sense of humour, and maintaining contact with the fans.

More bands should look at what you guys have done and copy it :)

100% Canadian

After emigrating ... a few years ago, I still find these frigid winters a challenge. But I think I'm finally getting acclimatized and therefore on the brink of becoming 100% Canadian. And a proud Canadian at that ... When people mentioned Canada, I [once] conjured up images of Mounties, Moose, Snow and Maple Syrup! Now that I have lived and experienced the culture, when people ask me about Canada, my heart swells with pride as I enthusiastically blurt out "Blue Rodeo" ... (the best band in the whole entire universe). I'll be honest, I get the odd weird look but not always!

Jim, you are, and will always be, an inspiration to me! I go somewhere else when I hear you sing, and during these long cold Canadian winters sometimes that's a good thing! Thanks to you I now play the guitar and I love it! The first tune I was able to play right through was Til I Am Myself Again.

Sweet-Ass Blue Rodeo @ The Beach

Well, just sending an email from out in Australia and wanting to pass on some good news. Me and my buddy are huge Blue Rodeo fans. ... Me and my bud, Russ have got our hands on some guitars and we have been playing your stuff out on the beach and stuff. Not for busking, just for casual play and enjoyment. The good thing about all this is that people that we talk to from Australia haven't really ever heard of you guys, we play the stuff and they're like "WOW! That's amazing!" They just love it and eat it up. I am sure you know this already, but, your new CD is in the stores out here. We were really impressed by that. The people that we're playin' guitar for are going straight out and buying the CDs. This one gal actually ordered 5 Days in July. They have to ship it out and all and it's going to take a while.

Anyways, just wanted to letcha guys know that the sweet-ass canadian bands are gettin' out there. Even way down under. I also love playing your stuff.

What rhymes with "Barbara"?

As a huge Blue Rodeo fan, I have loved listening to your all of your albums for years. Unfortunately, Blue Rodeo albums can't be played in my house anytime soon. You see, I have a pair of twin daughters -- Cynthia and Barbara. As the girls got old enough to listen to lyrics, Cynthia learned of the Five Days in July track, Cynthia, which she adores and sings, hums along with endlessly. The problem is, Barbara grew really upset with the fact that Daddy's favourite band has a song named for Cyn, but not her. She put up such a fuss whenever I played your albums, that I just can't play them in the house anymore.

I'm sure that songwriting can't just get started in a flash, but if there is any way that you guys could come with a number named "Barbara," I (as well as my girls) would be grateful. (If you could make all the lyrics about getting along with the people close to you, that would be perfect! :) I need Blue Rodeo back in my house, and I don't see any other way to do it, as nutty as this sounds!

Thanks a million,

Thanks from Soul Engines

[I'm] one of the singer-songwriters from the band 'Soul Engines'. I just wanted to drop a note and say how much we appreciate being included in the Battle Of The Bands. This whole thing is a great idea ... it has exposed us all to a lot of great music.

Down here in New Jersey, Blue Rodeo is not very well known and that's a shame. My wife (who's from Kitchener) introduced me to their music 8 years ago and I became an instant fan. Over that time I've watched other Canadian artists gain notoriety here in the USA ... unfortunately Blue Rodeo remains Canada's best kept musical secret.

Friend of a half-brother

I always liked it when Blue Rodeo used accordions so I decided I'd use one as much as I could in my songs. My friend Brian - who was the drummer in my first band - is Greg Keelor's half brother. It wasn't until 1997 that his father revealed this family secret. BR and I go back a long ways.

CASINO is my favourite...

I discovered Blue Rodeo back in 1997 when TREMOLO came out. My then-girlfriend said that I would probably like them because they sounded similar to Son Volt or Uncle Tupelo. Right now, CASINO is my favourite and THE DAYS IN BETWEEN is a close second. I have found a vinyl pressing of OUTSKIRTS and managed to purchase it rather inexpensively!!!

Terrific fans!

This is just a note to tell you about something remarkable in the bluerodeo.com community. One of your fans had tickets to the January 10th and 11th shows at the Commodore [in Vancouver]. Her wallet was stolen with the tickets and her Christmas shopping money in it. Soon after this was posted [to the Discussion Board] the tickets on January 12th became available. Another fan - Westernsky (Linda in real life) - became our own Christmas angel and bought a ticket for FaithfulBlue (Christine in real life). In reality this is just one example of the type of people your music attracts. There is a great deal of goodwill and good deeds year round on bluerodeo.com. Check out the discussion board once in a while. It will make you feel terrific when you see posts from so many genuinely nice people. By the way, it feels great to pass on such positive things as well.

Hope you have a happy holiday season and a terrific New Year!!

Wheelchair accessible shows

[My wife and I] really enjoy Blue Rodeo's music and go to any concerts we can. As a matter of fact, the December 30 Blue Rodeo and Friends concerts are somewhat of a tradition for us. So, you can imagine our disappointment to discover that this year's show will be at the Palais Royale, which is NOT wheelchair accessible. Is their anything that you or your management can do to have a SAFE, temporary ramp constructed in time for the show?

Thanks,
Steve (December 8, 2000)  >>>discuss it!

Patient Jim Cuddy

Hi Jim,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the wonderful time we had after the show Saturday night, and to apologise for my embarrassing and downright obnoxious behaviour. Please believe that I am not normally the slobbering, blabbering idiot that you met that night. Too much beer and excitement can do that to a guy. Anyway, [we] really enjoyed ourselves, and we appreciate your genuine hospitality (and patience!).
Pass along our thanks to the rest of the guys. We are now bigger fans than we ever were.

"Your new best friends"

I need some air ...

Check the time of this email. That's right, right at the start of the ... concert, for which my girl ... bought us a couple of tickets, but by the time you guys finally made your appearance (about 2 and a half hours after arriving at 8:00 PM), my girl had fainted from the smoke and heat and the gestapo onsite wouldn't let anyone out or open a goddamn window or door so she could recover, so we had to leave, during your first piece. They wouldn't let us back in period. She's a bit of a diehard, she's taken me to five of your concerts now, but I'll tell you, this was my lllllllllaaaaaaaaaasssssssssstttttttttttt Blue Rodeo concert. Now why couldn't the girl have gotten some air, you airheads !!!!!!

P.S. You are too loud. You're very good. But your performances are a blast. You don't need to perform that loudly. Now you've heard my blast. Over and out of here.

Living in the South is wonderful except...

Now that you've got some U.S. tour locations booked, please consider a suggestion … Raleigh, North Carolina would be a great stop for your tour. Here's why: Having lived down here for a year I have met many many other Canadians who live here as well … You would immediately get a very good sized Canadian-base audience with a show here and I know that many people who knew the band would bring friends and co-workers. I certainly have told many people about your music and have many listening to it and borrowing CDs … To top it all off, Raleigh has some great venues and is beautiful … Give it some thought.

Living in the south is wonderful except for one thing ... no Blue Rodeo,

Dallas Calling!

Hi there, I'm a Canadian living in Dallas that has introduced a few locals to your music … my husband came up to Saskatchewan … I took him to a Blue Rodeo concert and now he's here spreading the word in Dallas.

Thieves with good taste!

You probably won't believe this...but there are thieves out there with good taste! My car was recently broken into...and what did they take? Two of my favourite Blue Rodeo CD's...5 Days in July and The Days in Between....Oh well...at least someone else is enjoying them!

"We met in a hurricane."

I wasn't familiar with your band until about two years ago. My boyfriend knew of you because he could get a Canadian radio station to come in once in a while in his car. Two years ago on our way to Niagara Falls one of your songs Five Days In May came on the radio. We both fell in love with that song as it had a very special message for us. You see, we both were going through divorces and having a hard time. Your song seemed to be addressed to us. We in fact met "In a hurricane."

I am a country music recording artist and I know about music sending a message. I appreciate your passion in what you do and the talent you all share. My dream is to someday sing one with you. Your style is unique and the way your music combines country, rock, blues all in one is what makes you the best!

Sincerely,
Debbie (November 3, 2000)  >>>discuss it!

US Management

It is one of the great quandaries of life of why you guys are not bigger in the U.S. Your material is clearly commercial (in a good way) and accessible to a wide variety of tastes. Your effect upon the Canadian market clearly states that your cousins to the South should at least be half-mad over your sound. Is your U.S. mgmt. company doing their job? I mean we had to buy your latest CD over the Internet because no one in record stores even heard of you (Southern California locales - Tower Records). I know it can be like a ghost town but please come down again to Southern California (i.e. Coach House or Belly Up Tavern). Keep the wonderful music coming and light a fire under the asses of your U.S. management.

"What am I doing here?"

I personally had to grimace when I read the liner notes for What Am I Doing Here? [on Just Like A Vacation]. I was at that very show at the Erie County Fair....There was a big storm in Niagara that night and we feared the show would be cancelled. Then my friend's car broke down and my parents actually drove us all the way to the fair because they saw how crushed we were....Later that year I, my brother Aaron and his friend Sean enjoyed spending an evening talking with you at a high school show in Port Colborne. I still have the t-shirt you gave him. I'm sure that people all over the country have similar memories of you and the great guys that you are...I think you are 'the' Canadian band.

Blue Rude O?

It was a pleasure to see [the Jim Cuddy Band] on stage enjoying themselves...I was truly delighted to see Jim behave with some dignity instead of compensating for Keelor's complete contempt for the audience. Jim has brought together people that seem to actually like being on stage together as mature human beings...Blue Rodeo has become oppressive with so much grim ego crap going on, onstage...Tonight in Peterborough it was a return to what music should be about. Immensely talented people doing their thing without trying to prove something. Jim has a lot of class that has been missing in recent concerts. Frankly, in Peterborough, Blue Rodeo has been nicknamed Blue Rude O.

Good to see that redemption is possible.

Do Crickets Ever Sleep?

Hi fellas, just wanted to tell ya' how much I've enjoyed your work over the years. Nice to learn that Greg likes Orange, over all the many colours. Terrible to learn about his dimensions of unwanted sound, and sight that begets more light. Sparks and Squeals. That is why we have pores - to sweat - No - to feel - No - that is how the light gets in. Ray Charles knows that, just ask him. Stevie still Wonders, while Jeff Healey heals: "I Tried."

We all do our best, every moment, of every year. A drunken derelict, wet whiskey on his lips, I tried; I believe him; he did his very best. Not good enough. So be it. He succumbs to the truth. We all do our very best. We have no choice in the matter. Come hell or high water, we have no choice.

Your Good Friend,

New friends from Australia

I was introduced to the pleasures of Blue Rodeo by a Canadian friend a few years ago. Being Australian, I'd never heard of you before until then. Now I just can't hear enough of you. Your music touches something inside of me, it moves my soul. I stumbled across this site whilst scrouring the Internet and it will now be my #1 favourite.

Cheers

Proud Canadian

Just signing in to continue to support BR... am so very proud to note you are a Canadian band. BR displays so tackfully and upbeat, with courtesy, pride, as you share your talents while performing. What makes you so unique to us fans may be the fact that BR appear to be so humble and respectful of each other, but I guess that is what family is all about and why you remain BR!

Thanks guys!

Speed up the tour updates

Absolutely ridiculous...

Before I go off, can someone clarify this for me: is this Web site directly affiliated/co-managed/run by Blue Rodeo's management? If not, then fine - ignore the following.

If so - well, management gets the dates first. Why are they not posted on this site PRONTO, with a quickie topic posting, or however is the fastest? Why are we trolling the web, Pollstar and god knows where else to get the information that management has already, and that should really be up?
